Two can play that game (Pecari team!) by The Craven Captains

OOC - This post in brought to you in association with Flexitime, allowing it to be set just after Midterm.

IC
The Craven twins stood in the mushy, snow/mud that was the turf of the stadium. They hands in which they held identical brooms and bats (save for the names inscribed on the latter) were clad with thick gloves, and winter woollies seemed to be the dress code today.

They greeted their team members as each showed, some looking more disgruntled at being called out in this weather than others. Once the right number of people was assembled, the twins addressed them.

"Welcome to the first practice," said Sorrel. "We're Sorrel..."

"...and Ash, your captains. We've called the practice today..."

"... so that we'll have trained in all types of conditions."

"And, in all likelihood, the worst weather you'll see at Sonora"

"Unless the weather charms break down again," Sorrel reminded him.

"In which case matches will probably be cancelled," quipped Ash.

The twins' way of speaking could be confusing at first, and they frequently found heads flicking back and forth like the listeners were tennis spectators when they spoke. It was half competitive, correcting the other, yet - in this, and many other instances - it managed to also make a complete sentence.

They decided not to say that anyone who didn't like this training could hop it, as they really couldn't afford for someone to take them up on that, so decided to simply kick things off.

"We'll be starting off with a few ball passing exercises," said Ash, digging the Quaffle out of the trunk.

"Just to warm up," said Sorrel. "So mount your brooms."

"And off we go."

"Pass under or over to alternate players," Ash instructed, once the team was up, and gathered in a circle, demonstrating, by curling the ball under Sorrel's broom to the person next to her. "The people being passed over or under, try to intercept."\n\n

Saul

Giving it a go by Saul

It was fortunate thing for both Saul and the remainder of the Pecari team that there had already been half a school year of flying lessons before the first Quidditch practice, else the first step - getting up into the air - would have proved impossible, or at least hazardous for those around him, until at least the fourth or fifth try. Fortunately, Saul had improved a bit since the beginning of the year.

He lifted up off the ground, riding the same Nimbus he had refused to give up after the first disasterous flying lesson, being careful about his speed because it liked to suddenly dart forward with no warning if he wasn't paying enough attention during ascents. It was usually alright during hovers, though, so he wasn't too worried about it acting up while the twins described what they were about to do, or actually performing the exercise.

He did, however, almost miss the ball when Ash passed it under Sorrel and around to him as he wasn't really entirely expecting it. He and his broom dropped several feet while he forgot about flying and temporarily panicked about not letting the ball fall all the way down to the ground. The drop did have the good fortune of putting him in a position to catch it, however, so it almost looked like he'd meant to do that.

After the twins stopped talking he hesitated a moment, wondering if he should wait for some additional signal or just toss it around the person next to him to the one beyond them. Then he decided impatience was a way of life and just threw it, arcing it high to hopefully go way over his neighbor's head and drop down into the lap of the next person over after them.\n\n

Catchin' like a pro ;) by Stephen Baxter

Fido was eager for action, and Stephen wasn't far behind. It seemed like Quidditch season would never arrive, but now it had, and all was forgiven. At least until the next time they had to wait. With his usual grin and confidence, Stephen had shown up and almost forcibly had to restrain Fido while the initial organising was done by the twins. It was the only reason he hadn't ended up going over and using his best friend Sorrel to prop himself up, not that he would have needed too. It was just fun to get her all riled sometimes, especially now that they were friends again.

"Eager," he said with a wry grin and a point of the thumb in response to any looks he got from the newer team members, those not familiar with his broom's... unique temperment.

The warmup- well, he certainly hoped that it was the warmup - activity wasn't quite what he'd expected of the two though. It seemed oddly tame. Boring even. But, then, they the captains. He settled into the group circle, separated from Sorrel only by the firstie, Saul, jumped onto Fido and then had to explain to his broom that no, they weren't going to get to fly around just yet, but maybe soon, especially if Fido was really good. Then, to placate him, and offer further incentive, Stephen promised to take him for a proper fly after practice if Ash and Sorrel continued with the sissy activities.

Fido subsided, even as Saul became impatient and lobbed the ball over Stephen's head. But then, Stephen hadn't been playing sports all his life for nothing - and he most certainly hadn't been a Quidditch Keeper both last year and the year before for nothing either. Fido jerked up - maybe a little more than was necessary, but who could blame him? - and Stephen caught the ball easily, then leaned back to throw it along a path which should go around the next person.

This was kids stuff, he thought, looking pointedly in Sorrel's direction before rolling his eyes, and forcing Fido down again to the same high as everyone else. \n\n

Eduard Grimaud

Up in the air (like my nose) by Eduard Grimaud

Eduard strode onto the pitch in his usual eloquent style. Grimace on his face, he was not happy that he had been relegated to chaser, when all he had wanted to do was show up that muggle girl. She had won a hollow victory though, when they saw how well he could fly, they were sure to change the positions around.

He was also unhappy about playing with people who couldn't spell his name. He decided to rectify it. Adressing the flying bodies, he shouted,

'Which one of you cannot spell Eduard. It has a most distinct 'U' in it!'

He tightened his mouth into a distinct sign of disapproval as he got onto his broom, a sleek, fast design, and shot off into the sky.

That was his intention. But instead, he fell sideways and collapsed onto the damp grass. What was wrong with Firethorn? He hoped desparately that the other team members had not seen his error. \n\n

Quidditch Time! by Elizabeth Lavine

Lizzie's day so far had been a interesting one, but despite the biting cold, she was on her way to the quidditch pitch fully layered in warm quidditch gear. The brisk walk brought a flushed red color to her cheeks, but one that signaled a good walk in the cold, not a blush. As she walked, thought raced through her head, but as soon as she set foot on the pitch itself, all were wiped clean and replaced with one concept: quidditch. Liz was running a few minutes behind as usual, as when she arrived everyone was already dividing up and most of the team was already in the air. One younger looking boy, however, was not flying.

Without being able to help herself, Liz laughed when the boy shouted out to the rest of the team in an angry voice and then tried to take off. His broom, however, decided otherwise. She herself hopped on her trusty broom, and took a gentle circle around to help up the younger kid. He did seem a bit stuck up by the way he had addressed the general group only moments earlier, but that was something that Elizabeth had grown up around enough to just roll her eyes and continue on. As she made a complete circle around him, Liz extended a thickly gloved hand to the boy.

"Hey, Eduard, was it?" she addressed him, "Need some help up?"

If he wanted to be a brat, that was up to him, but Lizzie figured that being a more senior member of the team gave her a bit of an obligation to at least try and be nice to the new members. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw that Ash and Sorrel had already started some pass/catch drills with the rest of the team, and that a few of her teammates were dipping and tossing along with the pattern. Liz's fingers itched for the feeling of the rough exterior of the quaffle, and the whizzing sensation of full speed flight, but all she would have in good time. \n\n

Too bad we can all see Grim's boogers. >.< by Ginger Silverstein

Ginger was very lucky that she came prepared for such cold weather. She was actually lucky her mother made her pack all of that snow wear. Ginger remembered how she had protested not bringing them. She remembered how she argued that it was extremely unlikely that weather like this would ever occur in Arizona. Her mother told her that the wizarding world came with suprises all over the world.

Ginger wore a couple layers of stretch pants under a baggy pair of jeans. She wore a long sleeved shirt and a short sleeved shirt under a very warm, red winter coat. She had a black beanie, and a red scarf. She wore a small pair of snow goggles so she could see through the snow. She hovered for a bit when she saw Grim walk onto the pitch. She knew that he wouldn't be happy being beaten at his position by a "muggle-born". She smiled at the sight of his dismay. She usually didn't have negative feelings about people, but Grim was a snob.

She laughed when he was trying to look like a bigshot, and wound up fallingl. It was honestly a perfect moment. She got back to practice, and catched the quaffle with her gloved hands. She couldn't wait until she was able to practice seeker exercises. She contemplated throwing the quaffle down at Grim, and reminding him that he should get used to using a quaffle as he wouldn't be looking for a snitch. She wasn't going to start more unneccicary rivalry.

Instead she flew quickly to the girl that had recently joined in. "HEAD'S UP!" She managed to yell, as she threw it to her. She was glad to be rid of the quaffle, it was starting to get a bit heavy. \n\n
