Regarding the Newspaper Name and Another way to Earn Points! by Professor Flatt

To the Darling Beastlings Students of Sonora-

I am pleased to announce that the votes were tallied and the end result is a name for our most prestigious Newspaper. Miscreants, may I introduce you to your school newspaper, The Aronos! You can expect your first issue to be released shortly before the end of the school year, so please wait patiently and expectantly.

The Headmaster has also approved the following incentive to staff writers for the paper, as well as other students who might be interested in offering their own stories for submission. Points will be awarded to houses for newspaper articles. Exciting, isn't it?

Aladren, being my former house, should naturally proffer some of the more insightful articles. From Teppenpaw, I'm sure we can expect puppy dog tails and sugar plum fairies- stories that make the heart warm and the mind congeal. Crotalus, den of vipers that it is, will, no doubt, bewitch us with tales of propriety and decorum, layered with double meanings and future declarations of war. Pecari, that delightful bunch of criminals creative individuals, can be looked to provide playful anecdotes and the like.

So Houses, beastlings, and all those in between, please remember to point all your questions here or at my office near the HoM classroom.

Ever diligent,

Professor Thaddeus Flatt

I'm sure you meant no insult by Talitha Cumni

As the HoM prof, I'm sure you know that throughout history the snake has had many legends associated with it linking them to creation, fertility and transformation.

In Israel the snake was regarded as the earth mother and played a beneficial role in fertility. In Egypt the cobra was known for its ability to expand the upper neck into a disc shape by spreading its ribs which symbolized immortality. According to my culture Snakes are fascinating creatures that deserve respect. Throughout history the snake has had many legends associated with it linking them to creation, fertility and transformation.

Therefore forgive me if I might take umbrage with your uninformed slander of Crotalus’ symbol. The snake is also known for shedding its skin and growing and developing in strength and power. Therefore, while others of my House may not understand this fully, the Snake is “the craftiest of creatures” and the Rattle Snake never strikes before giving warning. As you’ve an editor who embraces the spirit of the Rattle Snake, be forewarned that since this Medicine has entered your life, you may be in for the shedding of the old ways and growing into a new realm of inner awakening and power.

Never underestimate a true member of Crotalus.

<I>'. . .den of vipers that it is. . .'</i> by Professor Flatt

Dearest Beastling Cumni (and that other miscreant),

This is why The Aronos ever appreciates your addition to itself; you bring a generous portion of unique perspective coupled with silver lining enhanced optimism. Your glass, surely, is perpetually half full- and then some. I congratulate you on your ability to overlook the majority of your House's constituents and put stock in your particular opinion. I'm sure that for you, such things are truly the marshmallow-ed and nutmeg-ed topping to a nightly cup of cocoa. What solace it must bring you to curl up, your hands toasted by the piping hot cup, your taste buds eager for the refreshment, and sigh to yourself pleasantly, thinking all the while that indeed, you rest not in a 'den of vipers,' but rather a den of immortality-inspiring, fertility-encouraging, and frequently shedding pit vipers.

I do appreciate that you, as one who truly exemplifies this potentially deadly creature, should seek to rectify a perceived misinterpretation. For such due diligence, I'd like to award your den of strong and revered vipers ten House points. However, because you reserved your illumination for Crotalus alone, especially since you are the House Editor and expected to offer equal and fair coverage, I am docking ten House points. Where is the education on the history of reverence for puppy-dog tails? Are not puppy-dog tails also an important and valued part of the puppy-dog? Do they not also deserve some representation? I understand your reticence in regard to Pecari, however, should there not be some righteous indignation regarding my insinuation that 'criminal' is easily replaced with 'creative?' Are we then to believe that Miss Cumni, a true member of Crotalus, agrees that all creative persons are also criminals?

Aladren, of course, needs no such defenses. They are, most naturally, a perfect House. Aladren produced me, after all. There needs be no additional explanation in regards to their excellence.

I do thank you, though, House Editor, for having the fortitude and strength to stand up for your darling den of vipers. It is to be admired.

Ever diligent,

Professor Flatt

Holding her sides and wiping away tears of mirth by Talitha's Author

I so apreciate your point, I really do. You nailed my perky petite polyanna. However, I warn you, with the permission of the Editor in Chief, Talitha is inspired to write an editorial in addition to her other articles. "Are We Truly Living Up to Our House Standards?" and also be warned she may have a scathing section on the House of the Hawk which will infuriate Seamus to no end there is no doubt. So Dear Professor, thank you for the inspiration.\n

Stepping out of character for a mo. . . by Flatt

. . .ment- I am so glad that the humor translated. It occurred to me, belatedly, that Flatt channeled into smug jerk far too easily. I think I can safely say that Flatt will enjoy any opportunity for a ruckus to be caused, and if an article in the paper should provide that avenue, then go for it!

Here's to puppy-dog tails and viper dens!

BTW by House Editor Cumni

Is there in some dark, dank dungeon (with an animated Gutenberg press that devours students who turn in articles that contain spelling and grammatical errors) where we are to turn in our completed submissions?\n

All in good time, dearest beastling. You may rightly expect something of that nature appearing this weekend, probably Sunday. Your forum usage, btw (ha ha ha (inside joke with myself there)) is much admired.
