Coach Cooper had arrived early to class, wearing her usual Quidditch equipment, her curl hair back in a ponytail and her flying goggles on. Taking a step back, she admired her handywork, she had always done well in Charms. Today she had enlarged a small Quidditch model to the size of a large foosball table, and enchanted all the players so that they could play a real game when she waved her wand twice. She thought it would be quite amusing to show to her class.Noticing students starting to come in, she gestured for them to stand around the table, "Come along everyone, today we're going to watch a demonstation of a Quidditch game. And if we have enough time, we'll even play a game, so please pay attention."\n\n

Sims playing Quidditch by Stephen Baxter
Stephen sauntered down to the pitch, thinking about Fido, and thinking about Alan and the new motorbike his brother had given him for christmas. It was a beauty. Painted fire-engine red with a black seat, and the sound of that motor... if it could have flown Stephen would have been a boy with everything he could ever want. As things stood, hew as looking forward to being reunited with Fido. And starting to tick over some very interesting ideas regarding the broom in his head.He had made this class fairly early it seemed. There were a few other student milling around, but not the crowd that he could expect to see when everyone was there.
The brooms weren't out though. And the coach was over at some odd looking table. Odd looking table... Stephen headed over, even as she called everyone to come. With his head start he got a prime position, and peering down it only took him a couple of seconds to work out what he was looking at. It was like a miniture of the Pitch.
"Cool," he breathed, reaching out to give the nearest stand a poke. There were little figures on little brooms flying around seemingly without aim in the middle of the model. It reminded him of something... something he'd seen during the holidays when he'd been with his mates.
Jimmy! Jimmy's folks had given him a copy of The Sims 2 for Christmas, and the whole gang had spent a good couple of days over at Jimmy's place, egging him on. Telling him all sorts of crazy things to make his little people do.
It got a bit boring after the novelty value wore off though, and they had gone back to their usual activities - games of soccer out the back of Stephen's place, rounders in the public park in the middle of town, red rover on various roads, just hanging out at various places while talking and catching up on the latest music. Mucking around. Watching Alan and the other bigger kids on the makeshift course they'd built to jump their bikes over - both BMX and motorcycles.
Having a good time.
A slight grin formed on his face while he was lost in thinking about his holidays... but they were over now. He was back at school - he'd copped a bit of a ribbing about his fancy new boarding school, but it had all been in good fun. And here he could do things he couldn't back home. Here, he could talk about magic - apparently it was a big no no everywhere else. He'd been given a talking to before he'd been allowed to leave for the holidays; apparently they thought he needed extra reminders or something - and really fly.
Reaching into the middle of the model of the quidditch pitch, Stephen started to idly try to catch one of the model players. Not really try to catch one - he'd have had one by now if he'd been doing that - it was more like a game of cat and mouse where actually getting his hands on them wasn't the aim. The fun was in the chase.
And seeing how fast those little model brooms could go.\n\n

Simple minds...simple pleasures by Mia
Mia headed towards the coach as the students were called. Coach Cooper had mentioned watching a game and then playing if people paid attention. She was excited for their next lesson in Qui...Qui... that game on the brooms. Mia had a terribly selective memory and she couldn't remember that game's name for the life of her. To top off the embarasment, she could've sworn the coach just said it too. She hurried over and saw a large foosball looking table as a crowd began to form around it.'Foosball? So witches and wizards play foosball too? I can get used to that.' Mia thought happily as she ended up behind some kids that were taller than her. That wasn't hard seeing as she was fairly short but not as short as one boy that she met earlier. He had to be at least two or three inches shorter than herself. Mia frowned and caught sight of an empty standing space right next to the table.
Mia slipped fairly easily through the crowd seeing how thin she was and landed herself a spot next to Stephen. She was sure she had seen him around and possibly talked to him before but once again, her selective memory refused to remember any such event. Mia put her hands on the side of the table and leaned over a bit to get a better view of the table.
"Whoa..." Mia said aloud but mostly to herself.
This was NOT an ordinary foosball table. It looked like a replica of the pitch they were standing in. Lots of little brooms were buzzing around through the mini replica pitch. This absolutely fascinated Mia. She leaned closer and her long hair fell in front of her face again. She quickly leaned back and threw her hair up in a quick ponytail before leaning back over.
By the time she looked back, Stephen had his hand in the pitch, chasing brooms around. He could've easily caught one but didn't seem to care. Mia smiled as the brooms tried to swerve away from the large obstruction of their space.
"I thought she told us to pay attention." Mia said quietly to Stephen with a small smirk on her face. The smirk turned to a large smile and a laugh as she turned back, fascinated by the brooms again. She knew she must've looked like a little kid but she just couldn't help it.
Mia wasn't for always spoiling people's fun. If it didn't give her unnecessary trouble, than she wouldn't interfere. But she couldn't help but think of one of her favorite quotes that seemed to fit perfectly here.
'Simple minds...simple pleasures.' Mia thought to herself and couldn't help but laugh.
Besides, she didn't need more people thinking she was a stuck up goody goody because heaven knows she got enough of that back in Jersey.

Sorrel was in an absolutely towering temper. She didn't mind that she'd got detention, she was actually kind of fiercely proud about that, but she'd never been subjected to as many boring lessons as she'd been put through recently. And Connell... Connell was going to get it. Sorrel had wanted to spit in her potion just to spite the woman, but she knew that it would have made no difference to her.She stormed onto the Quidditch Pitch, a little glimmer of hope inside her. They'd done Chasing last time. Logically it would be Beating today. That would be good stress relief. Painer's head - whack! Connell's head - WHACK! Not that that was any substitute for actually clubbing the woman over the head, but that would come later. Now was Quidditch. Which might be interesting.
Or not. There was a large model, which the professor was instructing them to crowd round and gape over like it was so fantastic that she could 'engorgio' a model you could buy in any toy shop. Big-fricking-deal. At least Stephen was already here. She went to park herself next to him, when she saw someone else was already there, giggling away at every other comment she herself made.
"Careful Stephen, looks like she's after poisoning you too," said Sorrel in a nasty tone, as she stopped at Stephen's other side, throwing a disgusted look at Mia's nails. "Budge, Princess. Not everyone here wants to worship the ground you walk on," she added. She knew it wasn't Mia's fault that she was having a lousy day, but it wasn't like she was going to regret taking her temper out on her - she was never going to get on with someone who wore nail varnish - and it made her feel a little better to get some of the bile out of her system.
"Coach," she asked, raising her voice from the undertone she'd addressed Mia in, "How likely are we to get onto a real game of Quidditch? Because I can think of far better ways to spend an hour than staring at a poxy old model." Not that she normally respected her teachers very much anyway, but she normally knew to bite her tongue a bit. Especially if there was the prospect of a match. But it was quite clear that no one was safe from the bad temper of Sorrel Craven. \n\n

Right...only a model...great by Jake
Jake stood a row behind those who were directly infront of the table. He honestly didn't care to witness any of the displays the coach might put on. He already knew Quidditch, knew it by heart. Played the game every summer for most of his life. Quidditch was in every essence, his life.So, when it came to the coach teaching all those who knew nothing of the world to which they belong, Jake gazed longingly up at the sky. He was itching to get back on his broom. While home for Christmas, Jake and his siblings, as well as his best mate, Whitney (first name Adam), had all gone to the Magical park for a long game of Quidditch. It was their favorite past-time. Jake couldn't wait until next year when his sister, Bella, and mate, Adam, would hopefully be accepted into Salem. He would finally have someone to fly with. Not that he didn't have anyone now. He was sure he could ask the twins, as they were beaters, Elizabeth who was a chaser, Jennifer who was a seeker, or Tally who was a chaser. But he didn't. He never thought it appropriate to ask.
He was brought out of his daydreaming when a rough voice streamed through his ears. His black eyes lowered back to ground level, and he found Sorrel asking when they would start the actual game. This too, Jake had been wondering and looked over to the Coach with hope and eagerness radiating off of him.
Quidditch was his life afterall.\n\n

So...the point of this is? by Tally
Tally was walking slightly slower than everyone else. She was excited to fly again and was now in the process of struggling to get her long brown hair into a bun, which is the cause of her being slower than everyone else.When she finally reached the pitch, she noticed everyone standing around something, so we pushed her way through. She was short and a girl, she deserved to be in front. Well, that was her opinion anyway. She finally reached the front and stood beside Jake, a fellow Teppenpaw and her friend.
She looked down at what they were surrounding and found a foosball table. She frowned for a moment. Why would they need to play foosball? Then her eyes fell upon the players. It was a simulation of Quidditch and Stephen was chasing them. She smiled lazily for a moment and then leaned her elbows down against the sides of the table and placed her head in her hands.
Tally heard some nasty comment about someone and looked up to see that it had been about Mia. Tally was tempted to laugh, but thought better of it. Mia was her friend and Tally didn't want her to hate her or anything. With a deep sigh, Tally flicked one of the players and watched it spin away from her with little interest. When do we finally get to play? Tally thought with irritation.\n\n

Ain't nothin' wrong with pink or polish by Mia
Mia was watching the models in amusement when she heard a very cold tone from a familiar voice but it wasn't directed at her. She looked up and saw Sorrel taking a spot on Stephen's other side. The comment wasn’t about Stephen though. Sorrel looked at Mia's hands in disgust and made a rude comment to her before addressing the coach in the same way.'Worship the ground I walk on? What is she talking about?' Mia thought with annoyance as she glared in Sorrels direction.
While Sorrel spoke to the coach, Mia looked at her hands wondering what was wrong with them. She saw her copper nail polish and remembered Sorrel's 'anti anything that might remotely be done by girls despite the fact that she IS a girl'. Mia could understand the not wanting to be valley girly but now she was just being disgustingly rude. It clicked that the first comment was about her. Mia wasn't one to take attitude from people especially when she didn't deserve it.
When Sorrel was finished with the coach, Mia spoke to Sorrel in just as nasty a tone.
"Oh, I'm so sorry Sorrel, mistress of Sonora, to whom we all must bow to thine temper. Jeez, what crawled up your robes an bit you in the-" Mia stopped, changing her mind about wanting to start a conflict.
Mia just sighed and muttered "forget it, just forget it." as she looked back at the model with less enthusiasm than before. She wasn't about to get herself worked up because Sorrel was throwing around her attitude. But Mia's temper wasn't the best either. If Sorrel kept this up, she might not be able to stop herself so easily.
Mia willed for the coach to get the lesson started already and put as big a space between herself and Sorrel's attitude as possible.

So, this is, what, a hologram? by Zack Dill
Zack, being a very small boy of just over four feet, was able to squeeze his way between his classmates who had arrived before him and were blocking his view of the table. Ducking under a final arm he reached the side of the table and peeked over the edge. There were little people flying around on brooms in there. He hoped it was just a hologram and not actual little people, because some of the other students were flicking at them or trying to catch them.He had to stifle the hypocritical urge to do likewise to find out.
Ignoring most of his classmates, he watched the people move around, trying to figure out the rules based only on their behavioural patterns. It looked suspiciously like basketball to him. Zack hated basketball. Basketballs were heavy and weren't condusive to defying gravity. When he threw them, they never made it anywhere near high enough to make it into the hoop.
At least Quidditch players had the advantage of flying around on brooms so they could throw down toward the hoop, even if it was a whole lot higher off the ground than the standard basketball hoop.
He still suspected he was going to suck at it, though. Zack and competative team sports had never gotten on all that well.

Let the demo begin by Coach Cooper
Coach Cooper studied Sorrel closely. Typical beater attitude, still suprising at this young age she thought to herself. She figured that she better start things up, before everything got hectic."Alright people, the sooner we get through with the demonstration, the sooner you get to play a real game," she explained to some very over-eager looking kids.
Opening a box about the size of her hand, a miniature Quidditch box. Pulling out the Quaffle she, started to explain, "This is a Quaffle, but you all know that from last time. Players 1-3 on both the red-coated plastic people and blue-coated plastic people teams are the chasers. The keeper, number 4 on both teams protects the three hoops from the quaffle and chasers. The blue chaser defends the hoops on the left, the red chaser defends the three hoops on the right."
She put the quaffle on the ground in the middle of the center circle, then let out the two bludgers, which began to fly around the little Quidditch pitch, "Those, are the bludgers. Their job is to unbiasedly knock the nearest player off their broom. It is the job of the beaters to hit the bludgers away from their team members, and towards members of the opposing teams, using a wooden bat. Numbers 5 & 6 on each team- the ones with the bats- are the beaters. The last player, number seven, is the Seeker. The Seeker must chase the forth ball, the Golden Snitch. Once the Snitch is caught, the game ends, and the Seeker gets 150 points for their team. The Seeker that catches the Snitch usually wins the game for the team."
Taking out the immobile Snitch, she placed it in the center circle, witht the Quaffle. She took out her wand, and swished it once. All the players stopped what they were doing, and gathered around the center circle. The Quaffle and Snitch also rose in the air. She swished her wand again, and the players went for the Quaffle and the snitch began its flight at the little Seekers chased for it.
"Let the game begin," she mottered, pocketing her wand and watching the little players at their game.\n\n

Ok... so what happens now? by Stephen
Stephen had reluctantly pulled his hands back from the players as the Coach decided to move the lesson on. He hadn't really been paying much attention to the others around him, and thus was rather surprised to see that he was in a girl sandwich. Well... perhaps not so surprised. There were an awful lot of girls around this place after all."Hey Sorrie," he said to Sorrel with a grin. "Haven't seen you around much lately... but then that might have something to do with my having gone home for the holidays."
She didn't look very happy. It puzzled Stephen. He wondered for a moment if it was because it was him before dismissing the notion. He looked around to see what it really was and his attention was drawn by the fingernails of the girl on his other side. It was that girl from Transfiguration! She was in Pecari too, but he couldn't remember her name for the life of him. Although... Sorrie had mentioned her once in a note...
"Hi Princess," he said, grin still firmly in place. "You enjoying the lesson? It's a little boring so far - like watching TV, except..." he returned his attention to the pitch with sudden renewed interest. There was a chaser for the blue side rushing towards the goals. The Red keeper's broom was lagging a little, and Stephen suspected he wouldn't be able to make the save. Feeling partial to red at the moment (perhaps due to his shiny red motorbike) he reached over and as the little blue guy made his shot, intercepted the tiny red ball. "Except we can play too." he finished.
Stephen tossed the ball from hand to hand a couple of times to get a feel for the weight, then lightly threw it back into the action - right next to a free blue chaser. He watched the little blue guy streak toward his goals, then, losing interest again, he turned back to Sorrel.
"Hey, Sorrie dude. I got an idea" his eyes shifted from right to left. "Can't talk about it here, though. After class?"\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

We revolt! by Sorrel
"Wow, the Princess knows gutter folks' language. Even if she doesn't have the guts to use it," Sorrel sneered back as Mia attempted to come back at her, but lost her bottle half way through. It hadn't even been a very good come back, while it had still been going. The whole point about Sorrel was that she wasn't mistress of anything - she was a vagabond, and damn proud of it. She didn't want to be a mistress, or a lady or anything snooty like that.As the coach studied her intently, Sorrel glared back. She looked like she was trying to weigh Sorrel up, or psych her out or something like that. Sorrel wasn't too hot on reading anyone's emotions except Ash's.
*Bite me, hag,* she thought at the coach. Whatever it was her stare was meant to mean, that was an appropriate response, Sorrel was fairly sure.
'Let the game begin.'
"Let joy be unconfined!" muttered Sorrel sarcastically under her breath, mainly to Stephen, if anyone but herself. She made a small, disgusted noise as he actually wasted his breath on princess. Had he not heard her warn him about the fumigation project the girl had in operation?
"Hey, that's the spirit!" she grinned, as Stephen interfered with the Quaffle, and another girl flicked at one of the players. She tried to decide who she was supporting... Pecari seemed the only house not at least sort of represented (maroon was sort of red). She just went for the tail of the nearest player's broom, which happened to be the red team's Seeker. The model went through the motion it had been charmed to go through when someone Blagged it, it turned, beating its tiny arms against her finger and appealing to the referee model. Sorrel pulled back a little, feeling it strain against her fingers as it tried to make her let go. She did so suddenly, causing the player to plummet wildly out of control, and collide with one of the team's Chasers.
She nodded covertly to Stephen, excited at the prospect of an adventure/plot. One that it didn't sound like Princess was invited on.
"Good holiday?" she asked off handly as she smiled sadistically at the miniature players struggling to disentangle themselves from one another. \n\n

Stephen watched on as Sorrel grabbed the broom of one of the players and then shot it into another, grin dimming into a slight frown. It wasn't that he was against interferring, it was just that... she was acting a bit sadistic. Even if they weren't real. There was a line between having fun, and actively trying to hurt something, and she was definitely wavering on the other side.Particularly as he recalled that he had been going for the reds. Despite throwing the little ball to the blue guy.
Reaching back into the game, he pulled the two players apart and set them back onto the pitch, looking around for the ball again. Spotting it on one of the blue players (again) he stuck out a finger to tickle the guy, then poked the ball out from under his arm. Flicking it the way of the chaser who looked slightly dazed for a moving figurine, he let the blue guy go on his way and turned back to Sorrel as she spoke again.
His negative thoughts about his friend took off like dust on the wind as his smile made a comeback.
"It was brilliant," he said enthusiastically. " Alan, my brother, he gave me this motorcycle! And it's red and it's sooo very awesome. And I got to hang with all my other friends back home again, and... yeah. It was brilliant." All the time he was talking, his hands were active, emphasising his points, trying to show Sorrel what the Motorbike looked like, and generally reflecting his enthusiasm. "Absolutely awesome," he repeated. "How were things here?"\n\n

She saw the kids interfering with the game, and saw that they had found it as dull as she had when she first had this sort of lesson. That was very good, it meant that they knew what Quidditch was about, at least for the most part. Which made having a Quidditch game all the more easier."I think," she said loudly, calling everyone's attention, "that now would probably be a good time for a Quidditch game. Pecari will team up with Crotalus in the red Quidditch robes against Teppenpaw and Aladren in blue. This game's captains will be," she paused to think a moment, "Mr. Sontoro for blue and Miss Craven for the red. Now go to your team captain for positions. The sooner you organize yourselves, the sooner we get this game going, so get to it!"
She thought she had made pretty decent captain choices. From observations during the first lesson, she saw that both were talented flyers. She wanted a lot to see if Sorrel could handle the responisibility even though she was obviously having a bad day. That would make or break her if she wished to pursue flying. And Jake seemed like a friendly boy who could also put together a fine team. All in all, the coach was as interested as anybody to start this game.\n\n

Actually playing a game?! by Elizabeth
Elizabeth, who had been standing relatively in the back of the throng of students gathered around the foosball table, stepped forward. She had observed the whole scene, and to tell the truth, she was completely bored by the miniature representations of quidditch players. Elizabeth's eyes sparkled apprehensively as soon as Coach Cooper said the words: "Good time for a Quidditch game."After hearing the team and captain assignments, Elizabeth sighed inwardly. She knew that one day she'd have to play against her friends in Aladren and Teppepaw, but it hadn't occured to her that it might have been so very soon. She was glad, although, that Sorrel was their Pecari/Crotalus team captain, since Elizabeth was friends with her.
"Sorrel," she said, stepping towards the newly elected captain, "Or should I say, Captain Craven? No matter, I want to be one of your chasers."
Elizabeth grinned, knowing that, of course she would be a chaser in the game: she'd played that position ever since she had learned to fly a broomstick. She just liked to be formal (if not mock-formal) when it came to selecting positions.
Elizabeth's long ebony-black hair was tightly twisted into a bun type configuration, a hairstyle that was practically "wisp-proof". That meaning her hair had no chance of escaping and wisping out to the sides. It came quite in handy when playing Quidditch games, since she didn't have to brush them away every second. \n\n

TEPPENPAW & ALADREN TO ME! by Jake Santoro
Jake had still been gazing at the sky, but was brought back down by the sound of his name. He froze for a moment trying to figure out if he was being reprimanded for not paying attention to the mock-quidditch game with the little players. Only he wasn't. They were playing a real game and Jake was the captain of his team while Sorrel was captain of the other. Jake's eyes went wide for a moment. He was Captain? He black eyes swept the others as if trying to see whether or not they were playing a joke on him......they weren't. A lopsided grin appeared on his face and Jake stepped away from the table and a few paces off to the side so that they had room.
"TEPPENPAWS AND ALADRENS TO ME!" He waited for them to crowd around him. "Here's the deal, I don't know whether or not any of you know how to play this, but I'm going to have to assume. We need to get everyone into positions." He paused and looked around for a moment.
Jake had been playing quiddtich for a minor league since he was about eight, this was easy for him. But he knew that muggleborns didn't know how or at least, have never played, and some others didn't care for the game. This would make position selection difficult and winning the game hard.
"I'm a beater, so I'll play that position. We need another beater, a keeper, three chasers, and a seeker. For those who don't know what those positions are just ask me and I'll try to explain. Now, tell me which position you'd like to play."\n\n

Following the crowd to find Sorrel by Jennifer
Jennifer, having no idea who their captain was, besides her last name, looked around for someone she knew. She spotted Liz heading over to a girl, and she decided to follow. Hearing Liz call the girl Sorrel, and say that she was a chaser, made her think that she was probably in the right place.Jennifer had been looking foward to this ever since she got to school. SHe had been playing quidditch ever since she was tiny, just five years old. Her size had made her the perfect seeker, and she still hadn't grown much, a fact that she was grateful for. She hoped that no one else was a seeker. After all, if you were a chaser or a beater you had a chance. There was only one of her positon, and she wasn't outspoken enough to challenge another person.
Hoping that no one had said anything yet, she walked up to who she assumed was Sorrel, and gave a slight grin. "Hey, I'm Jennifer Zucchero. I'm a seeker, so if you don't have one already, can I play that position?"\n\n

Why, a chaser of course! by Tally
Tally had been watching the players lazily while everyone else around them either, did the same, talked amongst themselves, or listened to the coach chat. She watched in amusement as Stephen and Sorrel played with the little characters, but she did nothing else but watch.However, she was brought out of it and back into reality when the Coach said something about a game. Tally stood straight up and looked at the woman. A game? Really? Tally smiled wickedly at the thought, but become somewhat downhearted when she realized that she'd be playing against most of her friends. And Jake was her captain. Well, it that won't boast his ego and make his head grow large, I don't know what will Tally thought, but followed him over as he called out to the Teppenpaws.
She listened intently as he explained what he needed from each of them. When he finally finished, Tally opened her mouth to respond,
"I would like to be a chaser. I'm rather good at it, if that helps." She said lamely. "And if anyone needs help with it, I'd be happy to help them." She added just for good measure.\n\n

Er-whatever positions you've got by Zoey and Dillon Welsh
Zoey and Dillon had been standing off to the side, towering over everyone else. Because of their striking heights, they could easily look over their heads to see the foosball table, or at least what had once been a foosball table.When the coach actually suggested a game, Zoey panicked. She didn't really like flying and the idea of playing a sport she knew nothing about didn't help matters at all.
Dillon took things in stride. Of course it would have helped him more to know what to do in the game than anything else, but he figured that Jake could just tell them everything they needed to know.
The twins were happy to hear that they would be playing on the same team. This hadn't ever happened before because they each chose a different sport to play back home. Zoey was the basketball player and Dillon the soccer (American soccer that is) player.
They walked up to Jake and listened as he explained what was going on. He wanted positions? Zoey didn't know the positions and Dillon only knew from what he had watched on the table.
"Well, Zoey here can be the person who takes that larger ball and puts it into one of the hoops. She's a basketball player and good, so that shouldn't be an issue..." Dillon piped up. Zoey shot him a questioning look, but didn't say anything. "As for me, um...I was goalie in soccer, so I can guard the goals-er-I mean, hoops."\n\n

Zack listened carefully as the coach went over the rules (more so because he didn't want to not know something than because he really cared about the sport) then watched the little figures begin to move around in the actual miniturized game. Had he ever enjoyed watching sports, he might have given Sorrel and Stephen a sour look for interrupting the play, but, frankly, he didn't care.The coach then split them into teams based on House which was good in that it meant that Zack wouldn't have to be faced with the embarrassment of being picked last like he always was in gym back home.
He moved over to the declared Teppenpaw and Aladren captain, glad he hadn't been forced into that position. Mr. Dugal had made him captain once for a volleyball team (Zack was pretty sure it was out of pity for always being the one left over) and that had seriously sucked since he only picked people who were also usually on the tail end of selection. His team had been completely and utterly destroyed, resurrected into Zombie-hood, then vanquished again. Thankfully, Mr. Dugal hadn't forced that torture on him again.
When attention shifted in his direction to offer which position to play, he spread his arms a little as if to draw attention to the fact that he stood 4'3", had only enough muscle to carry around heavy bookbags, and lacked only a pair of suspenders and thick glasses to be the stereotypical nerd. "Put me somewhere with a lot of redundancy," he said, knowing that sports were one place he didn't have the least bit of ego. "I'm the science geek not the jock."
He wondered if people in this place knew what a science geek was.\n\n

Me/her CAPTAIN?! by Sorrel and Ash Craven
Sorrel's face brightened as the words 'Quidditch game' were finally spoken. She even stopped planning a mass assault on the little fake Quidditch people. She wasn't so sure about playing with another house - what if somone else tried to get Beater? - and she tensed slightly at the mention of 'Captains'. She couldn't stand it if she had to come under the rule of some goody two shoes like Mia, the sort the coach was bound to pick. She had to pinch herself when she heard her own name.She whooped, and punched the air, seperating herself off slightly so that her team could easily see and gather round her (just in case the whoop hadn't given it away, or someone in the school didn't already know who she and Ash were - surely their reputation preceeded them by now?). She grinned broadly, her day suddenly a lot better, even if she couldn't fathom out why the coach would choose a tear-away like her. Perhaps it was because she'd made it obvious from their previous lessons that she was a good flier. Or because she'd stood out. During the start of this lesson, the one thing that she could be sure of was it would have been hard for the coach to fail to notice her.
"Look at you, grinning cos the teacher chose you," said Ash, although he had seen her temper and been seperated from her recently enough that he said it gently, digging her as hard as ever in the ribs.
"Cram it," she grinned, though she was now grinning at him, in a twin way, rather than about her position, "And show some respect to your captain," she said snootily.
"Of course, your high-and-mighty wenchness," he said, mock bowing. She kneeded him in the shoulder as he went down. "At least make me co-captain," he said, as he stumbled a little.
"Nope," she grinned.
"Promise to make me your other Beater then?" he joked, standing beside, rather than in front of her, anyway. He knew Sorrel would accept no one else for her other Beater.
"I'll consider it," she informed him, nodding seriously as other players began to assemble around them.
"Sure Liz," she nodded enthusiastically. "And yes, Captain Craven," she grinned, a piratical air creeping into her voice as she tipped an imaginary captain's hat. "Hi," she greeted the other girl, who shyly introduced herself. "Er... I don't have one as of yet, so you get first dibbs, I guess." She wasn't entirely sure what she was meant to do if more than seven people, herself included assembled around her... So far, that wasn't an issue.
"Right, so that's one Chaser, a Seeker, two Beaters," she said, indicating herself and Ash. She had decided not to go into theatrics over that this time. She wasn't going to make Ash play up like a puppy in front of all their house, and one other. Plus she just felt like being them. One solid, unsplittable package, after the Potions fiasco. She and Ash were Beaters - she had to play because she was Captain, and he had to play if she did. No tangling. "And..." she whistled loudly, "STEPHEN," she hollered across at him, "Whatcha up for?" That would hopefully have the added effect of informing anyone who didn't know and hadn't managed to work it out, who Captain Sorrel Craven was. \n\n

Stephen pushed his way through the milling students to where Sorrel was shouting at him. Grinning he thumped her on the shoulder by way of greeting and congratulations."You're a Sorrie excuse for a Captain," he snickered, even as his attention was caught by Jen and Liz. "They on the team too?" he asked, indicating the two with a jerk of his thumb while he considered the question that had been loudly asked before. "Dunno," he finally answered, not sounding in the least bit worried about it. "Never really played Quidditch before, except that bit we did in the last lesson. I guess Beater's out," he flashed his grin at Ash who along with his sister had never made any indication of wanting any other position," which means Chaser or Keeper. Or Seeker. Dunno if I'd be any good at Seeker though. That flashy gold ball sure is tiny. So Chaser or Keeper. Erm," he glanced over at the goals. Trying to put the red ball through them could be interesting... but stopping it.
"Keeper." he said firmly. "That'll do me.\n\n

Jake listened intently to what positions everyone requested. Tally would do as a chaser, and she seemed to be the only one beside himself who know what they were doing when it came to the game. Turning to the tall twins, Jake nodded in agreement,"Alright, I'm not sure what basketball is, though I've heard of it. If you can get the quaffle," Jake pointed out the larger red ball to everyone to indicate what he was referring to, "into one of the hoops to score 10 points, then Zoey, you'll be a Chaser. If you have any questions I'm sure Tals can help you out." Jake said to the girl who looked very uncomfortable about the whole ordeal.
"Goalie huh? I don't know what soccer is, but from what I understand, a goalie gaurds, correct? Then you can be Keeper as it's the same concept. Just make sure you don't drift on the broom and expose any of the hoops. That'll just give them an easier target to score." Jake said with a nod of his head in the direction of the red-headed twins.
Now he turned his attention to the other kid. Jake was a full foot taller than him and could probably knock him down with just a flick of his finger. But, sometimes height can be an advantage. Jake sized him up quickly before making any sort of decision. It didn't help that the kid said something about being a geek that Jake didn't quite understand, but he chose to ignore it, it wasn't important,
"Are you good at flying?" He didn't wait for him to answer, "You're small, which is perfect for being a Seeker. A Seeker is an important position. You," Jake pointed to the kid, "have to seek out and catch the golden snitch," Jake pointed to the foosball table, hoping that the golden ball was there, "Once that is caught, the team scores 150 points and the game is over. There isn't much for you to do but position yourself to see everything and search for it. Everything else is up to everyone else. Think you can handle it?"
Again Jake acted as if the kid already answered him and chose to move on with everything,
"Okay, so that's one beater, two chasers, a keeper, and a seeker. Now all we need is another beater and another chaser. Okay, let's lose the formalities and get to know each other quickly so that we are as comfortable as we can possibly be playing this together. I'm Jake Santoro of Teppenpaw. Please call me Jake, Mr. Santoto is mi Papa." He turned his attention to the next person so that they knew it was their turn to introduce themselves.\n\n

Zack froze. He was being made Seeker? The one who determined who won? 150 points was the equivilent of 15 goals, and he didn't really expect that either team would have a 15 goal advantage, which meant, as Jake had said, it was a really important position.Nobody had ever ever ever put him in an important sports position. He wasn't sure he could handle this sort of pressure. Wait. Breathe. Be calm. It's just a game. A practice game. He could do this. Just find and catch a little golden ball. No problem. He didn't even need to interact with the rest of the team. That was good.
He breathed in again, and nodded to himself. He could handle this. He was Zack Dill, genius of Coffey Middle School in Detroit. Riding a broom was probably like riding a horse, and weren't jockeys all tiny people? He could do this.
Realizing that the captain was looking at him, Zack backed up a few seconds and tried to remember the conversation he'd been paying half attention to. Okay, introductions. He could do that, too.
"I'm Zack Dill, of Alderaan." He realized as the word left his mouth that it was wrong. He flushed slightly and corrected himself, "I mean, I'm in Aladren." Bloody Star Wars made it impossible for him to remember his house name without thinking of Leia's homeworld. "I answer to Zack, Dill, or Hey You." He decided not to offer them the option of 'Pickle'.\n\n

Oh <i>captain</i> by Mia
Mia wasn't so shocked to hear that Sorrel had becomeher captain. The girl could probably play ten times
better than Mia could ever hope to but it didn't make
her mood any better. She really didn't need Sorrel to
have the authority to throw her attitude at her. Mia
wasn't going to say anything though. She could be a
team player with an undesirable captain…well she could
try her best.
Mia looked around to find her new captain,
because she definitely heard her, and saw that her
team was beginning to form by Sorrel. She made her way
over to the general area as well, noticing the few
people that had come over included Elizabeth. Mia
wasn't so bothered by Elizabeth any more after being
able to cool down and (though she won't say it aloud)
after a little talk with Sorrel that happened
afterward. It probably wouldn't help to have a
teammate that was opposed to her very being but Mia
wasn't going to worry about that now.
It seemed like positions were being given out by the
person's choice. Mia had never played the game before
so she didn't have a preference but she was sure she
could give one of the positions a try. That is, if
Captain Craven even planned on giving her one.
‘Honestly, why give a princess a position in a sport
when she might break a well polished nail or
something?’ Mia thought sarcastically to herself with
a roll of her eyes and a small smile.
Sorrel seemed to be less moody than before now that
her brother was by her side and that was hopefully a
plus for Mia. Mia quietly waited to see if Sorrel
would give her a position or even acknowledge her
existence at all.\n\n

I'll be a chaser by Jenna H
Jenna wished that the demonstration had lasted longer, she truly did. That way, they wouldn't have to be playing a game now. And she was sure that she wouldn't be able to pull off another stunt like last time. She wasn't one to push her luck, and she truly was lucky not to be caught skipping part of that last lesson.So, relunctantly, Jenna followed the crowd to a girl called Sorrel. Jenna hoped that all the spots would be quicky taken, that way she would have an excuse not to be playing. But it seemed like there were still two chaser spots open. She now began to regret skipping the second half of Quidditch practice last time, they had gone over chaser stuff. At least there were three chasers, so they wouldn't have to pass the ball to her all the time.
Stepping foward Jenna said, "My name's Jenna Howard, I'll be one of the chasers."
She tied her brown hair back into a ponytail, so it would keep out of her gray eyes when they played. Better to overcome my fear of brooms later than never she thought to herself.\n\n

Alright, our team is coming together! by Elizabeth
Elizabeth's sapphire eyes flashed rapidly around, taking quick mental notes at the positions mentioned by the newcomers. She noticed some seemed to never have flown successfully on a broomstick, not to mention play a game of quidditch. However, she shook the feeling off and played aimlessly with a straying piece of ebony black hair.Silly hair, she thought to herself, You're supposed to stay up there for this exact reason- you get far to distracting!
Elizabeth noted the team members who seemed to be just coming out of the wood work, as the expression went. Among the throng was Mia, Jenna, and Stephen. She could handle them, as long as they did their jobs on the pitch and stayed out of her way. Other than that, things seemed to be shaping up with the Crotalus/Pecari team, and a slight nod of the head guestured her aknowledgement of the requested positions. \n\n

Chrissy had been standing behind everyone, trying to see over them. Her short petite body didn't help matters, but she could only sigh and wait for instructions. It's a good thing I know how to play already. She thought with amusement.Finally, the coach was allowing them to play a real game. She heard the last name Craven, but didn't know anyone with that name, so she waited patiently for the said person to show themselves. It didn't take long. The female twin began hopping up and down in excitement and then called everyone over to her. Chrissy followed them and stood back while everyone chose their positions.
She threw her short blonde curls into a very curly bun and walked up closer to their Captain.
"I'm fairly good at Chaser. So, if you need one, I'll be happy to play." She said with a smile.\n\n

I'm still here by Tally
Tally watched as more people came up to tell what they wanted. She couldn't help but feel that somehow their team would be filled with Muggleborns who knew nothing of the game and, though it was unfair to assume or judge, thought that they would lose because of it.She took in the other team and noted that most were half or pure bloods who all probably had knowledge of the game. She knew Chrissy did, the twins seemed to, Elizabeth was good on a broom, Jennifer was. So, basically their entire team was good. Tally returned her attention to her team with a frown. She heard the short kid, Zack, introduce himself and said they could call him Dill. She immideately thought of pickles, Dill pickles were her favorite back home, and she couldn't help the small giggle tha escaped her. She wouldn't say anything outloud of course, incase he would be offended.
The attention then turned to her and she smiled, "Tally Adams of Teppenpaw, you may all call me Tally, Tals, or Tal or Adams, I suppose." She thought with a shrug.\n\n

Jenna looked around the crowd. According to her calculations, Chrissy had just taken up the last Chaser position, meaning that the team was full. She looked over to the Aladren/Teppenpaw side. It didn't look like their team was full yet, so the game wouldn't be starting for a while.Sick of being in the crowd, Jenna took a few steps back... and tripped over a box. Grumbling, she stood up to see what was in the box. Opening it up, she saw red robes, so they must be the Quidditch robes the coach was talking about. The looked slightly worn, but clean, and for that Jenna was thankful. She rummaged around the box looking for a set of robes in her size. Once she found one, she pulled it out of the box, draping it over her arm.
"Hey everyone!" she called, "Quidditch robes are here!"\n\n

Pecan Nut and Crocus Players ATTENTION!!! by Sorrel and Ash Craven
OOC - I'm sorry I've been a bit absent - there was the France trip, plus I've had coursework (icky essays that make up part of my final grade) and my own site to try and stop all chaos breaking out on. So this is me trying to sort the Pecan and Crocus team - I am so sorry for the delay this puts on the game, and I'll hopefully be around more so I can whoop some Aladdin and Teppenpaw (that one doesn't sound like anything else...) arse.BIC
"Still captain," she grinned at Stephen's comment, shoving him in the shoulder. She raised her eyebrows a little as he rattled through all the options (or non-options, as some of them were). She'd really meant did he want Keeper or Chaser, seeing as those were the two positions they'd talked about him being before. Still, at least he eventually settled on one of those.
"Jen's got Seeker covered anyway," she informed him, nodding at the girl who wasn't Elizabeth.
She was then introduced to two potential Chasers at once, just having noticed Princess lurking. She wasn't saying anything but, much as she wanted to, Sorrel couldn't pretend she wasn't there. It wasn't that she cared about hurting Princess's feelings, it was just that the Quidditch coach was the one teacher she really cared about doing a good job in front of. They had to pick permanent captains at some point...
"Hang on," she said, as they all began grabbing for robes, "We have eight players and seven spots... Sorry you don't get a choice Princess," she said, not sorry at all, "But if you want something, it'll have to be Chaser. That was all that was left when you arrived." It would have been easiest to leave Mia out, as she hadn't asked for anything, but she had been there before the other two. Plus it would seem like Sorrel was grudge venting to pick on her to be left out. Technically Chrissy had arrived last and so should lose out, but she actually sounded like she might be good. Sorrel wanted to be seen to be putting together her team fairly, but she also wanted to win. And basing it on ability if they had an excess could be seen as a fair way of deciding. That was what would happen with a 'real' team. It didn't matter if you signed up first. It mattered how good you played. Why should she treat this lot like they weren't about to go into a real battle? "Now the three of you," she addressed Mia, Chrissy and Jenna, "All arrived pretty much together... I want Chrissy on if she's got experience. No offence, but this is a real game and I'm competitive. Is there anyone who..."
*SUCKS!* scremed her mind.
"... wouldn't mind sitting this one out? Or would even prefer to?" she asked, the sugar coated way of saying she didn't want losers on her team tasting sickly sweet on a tongue that was used to lashing out bitter, snide remarks. \n\n

Mia strongly fought the urge to punch Sorrel really hard for the nickname that seemed to stick. The girl really knew how to spoil a good mood. Mia kept a calm face but held her arms behind her, clenching her fists in frustration as Sorrel addressed her, Chrissy and Jenna. Sorrel asked if any of them would mind sitting out. She did want to play but she figured she'd get the opportunity another time. Besides, she really didn't know how much longer she could stand being near Sorrel with out accidentally inflicting serious damage to her.Mia shocked herself a little. She wasn’t used to having so many violent thoughts but apparently some people just brought out the worst in others. Mia inwardly sighed and spoke out.
"I'll sit out. They can play." Mia said in a relaxed, indifferent voice. “I’m new this anyway and I’d like to see our team win as much as the next person.”
Mia stepped back a little to show that she had decided. A large space between the two girls was starting to sound really good in her mind. She knew it probably wasn’t going to break her dear captain’s heart if she of all people sat out...
It sure wasn’t going to break Mia’s.

"Oh, I'll sit it out!" said Jenna almost too eagerly, "Mia and Chrissy can be the chasers. It's fine by me."Jenna was thanking her lucky stars. Did she have lucky stars? Oh, well maybe she should get some. But anyway, she was glad not to have to play. She didn't care that she had just insulted her Quidditch abilities. She didn't have any to speak of anyway. So, shedding off the red Quidditch robe she had put on earlier, she threw it back in the box.
"I hadn't wanted to play, so I guess this is a good thing," explained Jenna. She smiled, she was just so happy not to have to play.\n\n

If you make me choose, I'm going to go with you being off purely because your post was up first, I'm therefore following the 'it therefore happened first' school of thought. It's not cos I have anything against you or your character, even though my character does have something against yours. She just self sacrificed first.

Clearly Mia was as keen not to be in the air with Sorrel as Sorrel was keen to avoid being there with her. That suited Sorrel fine, and she had been democratic in her decision, so it wasn't like she could be seen as having bad captaining skills. She had had a perfect chance to be petty and act out in vengence against someone she didn't like, but she had avoided it. Even if it was only for potential self gain."Cool," she said, fairly tonelessly. She waited for the rest of the team to trail towards the centre of the pitch before adding a quick, gruff 'thanks' and patting Mia once on the shoulder. She turned away, head up as if she hadn't just spoken to her and strode off to head her team. And hopefully lead them to victory.
