Fifth and Sixth years by Headmaster Brockert

This had been a nice uneventful year, Mortimer's favorite kind. When things were eventful, they were never eventful in a good way. Usually, eventful meant something terrible had gone wrong, such as being cooped up with his subordinates in a room while the inmates ran the asylum students ran the school or an epidemic that caused magical outbursts or a monster roaming the school. So yeah, uneventful was a good thing.

Now the year was almost over and it was time to take care of all the end of year business. One such matter was choosing next year's Head Students-and even though Mortimer barely knew these people, he actually had his preferences, largely based on house biases and Emerald's opinions.

That was why he didn't really agree with everyone who made the ballot. Of course, both boys had to since there were only two of them though one of them seemed to-according to his granddaughter-exercise poor judgement and disrupt class on a regular basis. As for the girls, well, if he was to choose, he'd have picked Miss Ives.

Unfortunately, Mortimer didn't get to choose, the students did. And he was never one to trust the judgement of teenagers. Well, okay, he trusted Emerald's but she was only one vote.

Once the fifth and sixth years were assembled, Mortimer rose and began to speak. "I trust that you all know why you are here today, to pick who will be the next Head Boy and Head Girl of Sonora next year. " With that the ballots were dispensed.

This is totally wrong! by Arianna Tate

Today was the day they were voting for Head Student and Arianna was excited because in just a little while, her classmates would be voting for her. She was so obviously the best choice for the job. The Crotalus was mature, responsible, outgoing, intelligent, attractive, charismatic and had leadership skills. In other words, Arianna was the total package. How could she not win? She was absolutely perfect for the job. Plus, she was Clifford Brockert's great-great-granddaughter and the headmaster wouldn't want to upset the family patriarch.

Headmaster Brockert gave his spiel and handed out the ballots. Arianna scanned it. What in Merlin's name? How was she not on it? She was a much better candidate than anyone. This had to be a mistake!

In fact, they had made a big one. Arianna was going to be talking to Great-Great-Grandfather about this. Okay, she knew her mother and Uncle Adam and some of her aunts hadn't made the Head Student ballot when they were at Sonora either-though in Uncle Adam's case, she could see why-but there wasn't a Brockert in charge at the time.

And to add insult to injury, Lily Spencer was on it! Arianna couldn't think of a worse candidate. Even Juniper would have been better, she at least knew how to behave in a classroom setting and looked presentable. Aside from being outgoing, Lily had literally none of the qualities that the Crotalus possessed that would have made her completely ideal. Plus, the Pecari generally behaved worse than a wild animal. Plus, the idea of her being Head Girl was ridiculous when she was hardly a girl at all.

She suppressed the urge to pout and checked off the people she thought would be best for the job, other than herself.
