Personality Quiz (tag a first year other than Lily) by Jozua Sparks

Jozua looked at the sheet of parchment in front of him. He knew few enough of his classmates that filling out a questionnaire regarding which of them was 'most friendly' was proving to be more intellectually exhausting than his last transfiguration exam. Most of the names on the list of first years at least looked familiar, and he could probably even point them all out in a lineup, but he certainly didn't know all of them and felt entirely out of his depth needing to chose two of them for each of the given categories. While the survey wouldn't be graded or anything he still felt like randomly choosing a name or even basing his answers on surface knowledge would surely lead to 'wrong' answers, which could then be combined with more wrong answers given by people using the same assumptions and stereotypes, and then that would get published in the yearbook, and the whole thing would be ruined for everybody because the yearbook said Jozua was Quidditch Obsessed when he really only joined the team because Lily did! And then because the yearbook said so, suddenly everyone thinks he likes Quidditch when, in fact, he is merely a lemming, which would be a terrible thing to have to explain when people call him on not really liking it all that much!

So he felt he needed to have some justification for all of his answers, but really, he did not have enough information on some of his classmates to justify any awards for them, but the only thing worse than getting a wrong award would be not getting any because that meant your classmates thought you were invisible and/or didn't think you qualified for the honors you felt you earned, and that was just cruel.

So Jozua stood up and decided to do something about this lack of knowledge and accosted the first first year he encountered who wasn't Lily (Lily and possibly Finn being the two people he thought he could make some kind of informed conclusions about) and asked, looking at his survey paper almost as much as at the person, "Would you say you were," he paused, skimming down the sheet for a blank answer. It didn't take long. "A serious person? Or are you more," he looked again, trying to find an option that didn't have much overlap with seriousness, "the sort of person who gets lost in the gardens?"

Kellen Mormont

I didn't study for this by Kellen Mormont

Coming to Sonora halfway through his first term was bound to have some challenges. Starting behind the rest of his class, not knowing anyone when everyone else had had time to make new friends, adjusting to yet another new bed (which admittedly, Kellen didn’t do very well). These were just some of the things that swirled around Kellen Mormont’s anxiety addled brain as he’d made his journey to the academy.

When he’d finally arrived, he discovered that he’d been building things up in his mind, as usual. He was still behind, but not standing out in class gave him plenty of time to study. The young Aladren decided that was more important than making friends right away anyhow. He had six years to do that, or so he hoped. Kellen managed to find the library, so most of his free time was spent there with his nose in a book.

He was still adjusting to the dormitory though, and lack of sleep made his wideset blue-grey eyes appear even sunken in. He was already pale and thin, so the boy wasn’t over joyed by the fact that he really resembled an extra from The Walking Dead now. Maybe being mistaken for a ghost was part of the reason he was so good at being invisible.

Meal times were a definite bright spot in the lonely boy’s life. He didn’t really converse much, but he appreciated that the school accommodated his dietary needs. His mother was a vegan, and everything was gluten free whereas life at his father’s house often included processed meat products and snack cakes. The boy’s digestive system was glad for some consistency. As he made his way to an empty, somewhat people free, spot at the Aladren table, he suddenly realized he was being addressed by a Teppenpaw student.

Out of habit, Kellen looked behind himself to make sure that he was actually the one being spoken to. There was nothing worse than answering a question asked of someone else, or returning a wave that wasn’t meant for you. Sure that he was the one being spoken to, he thought for a moment before replying, his large ears reddening slightly as he answered.

“Uh, well….” That was a great start…way to look like an idiot, Kellen. “I guess I could fit either. Though since I’ve only been here since the start of midterm, the second is probably more accurate.” He finished, rubbing the back of his neck as he thought. He’d heard about the yearbook survey, well, overheard people talking about it anyway. He admired the Teppenpaw’s approach to it—if you don’t know, ask. He’d considered not filling it out at all, considering the only other person he’d interacted with for an extended period of time had been Farrah, and he couldn’t very well fill in her name for all the nice awards.

“How about you?” He winced as the words left his mouth…that was a weird question. Particularly if he didn’t plan on filling out the survey.

It's a pop quiz, it's supposed to catch you by surprise. by Jozua

Kellen was definitely one of the people Jozua knew very little about. This was in part because he'd only started after midterm, but if Jozua was entirely honest, he doubted he'd know the Aladren any better even if he'd been around from the start. Jozua didn't need a lot of friends and he'd found his quickly in Lily and Finn, so there hadn't been much need for him to reach out to the rest of his yearmates.

Kellen promptly proved Jozua's assumption that serious people did get lost in the gardens false by claiming either category worked for him, and backed that up with the evidence that he'd had a few months less opportunity for exploration than everyone else, which was a very valid point. Jozua marked down Kellen's name accordingly.

"I don't know," Jozua replied when his question was turned back around on him. "I don't really think I'm all that serious, but I'm not Not-Serious, either, you know? I mean, that's kind of one of those things that gets judged on a relative scale, isn't it? I'm kind of in the middle of that spectrum." Kellen was an Aladren, so it was probably safe to use words like 'spectrum' with him. Lily, he suspected, might have laughed at him, though.

"I get lost in the Gardens on purpose, though, so I don't know if that counts. I think it's fun to try to find my way out again."

The one thing he did know about Kellen was that he liked to read, so he asked, "Is it okay if I put you down as class bookworm, too? You're often reading. Or is there something else in the survey questions you feel represents you best?"
