May I have this dance? [Tag: Ingrid] by Louis Valois

Ball couples were popping up everywhere, or so it seemed, and Louis was starting to get worried. What if somebody had already asked Ingrid? Despite his plans to ask her, he hadn’t actually got round to it yet, a combination of never really catching her alone and also a hitherto unsuspected habit of chickening out. Emmy-Lou had been torn between amusement and annoyance at that, until eventually annoyance had won out and she had refused to speak to him until he’d done the deed. So Louis had taken a deep breath and set out to find Ingrid. The worst that could happen, he reasoned, was that she would say no, in which case the only solution would be to convince his parents to let him attend Beauxbatons. Which, as they would never say yes, would mean that he’d have to find a cave to live in and become some sort of hermit, only emerging to make the odd sarcastic remark when he needed human company.

Louis didn’t usually overthink things this much. He liked to consider himself fairly confident. However, he’d never had to ask anyone to a ball before, and it really was proving to be far more complicated than he’d originally thought. Still, if he could get over the hurdle of asking and (hopefully) being accepted, things should become a lot simpler. Ingrid definitely wasn’t boring, and Louis didn’t think he was either, so he was sure they’d have a fun evening.

It was lunchtime, so Louis had managed to find her eating in Cascade Hall. Giving himself a little pep talk (he was Louis Valois, of course he could ask a girl to the ball), he sat down beside her. “Hey Ingrid,” he started, smiling slightly nervously at her and deciding to cut straight to the chase. “Would you do me the honour of accompanying me to the ball?”

OOC: Mention of Emilia-Louise Scott approved by her author! Also I'm assuming Ingrid will eat lunch in CH at some point! :)

Ingrid hadn’t given a lot of thought to the ball. Her mind was far more occupied with the upcoming match against Teppenpaw, and the rest of the Quidditch championship. They needed to win in order for her to have another chance at putting a goal past Theodore before he graduated. She was chewing over their latest practice one lunch, when another member of the Aladren team decided to join her.

“Hey,” she smiled at Louis. They’d been getting to know each other a bit this year and he seemed okay, in spite of his poor house placement. He definitely seemed the kind to take her teasing in good humour, so long as he got to give as good as he got. She really hoped they’d have a chance to face off in the finals.

His invitation to the ball didn’t shock or surprise her, mostly because she hadn’t really been agonising over the problem, but when she had given any thought to the dating potential here at Sonora, Louis had seemed like a safe bet. For now, she just liked him as a friend - or friendly rival - but she could see that he wasn’t a bad choice, should she ever get to do some choosing. She had half figured he’d be going with Emmy-Lou, seeing as they seemed to be really good friends, though maybe his parents insisted on a society girl. She wouldn’t have been broken up about it if he hadn’t asked but the thought of going with someone was kind of cool.

“I would be very pleased to,” she smiled, his formal question feeling like it required a formal answer, and then - because it didn’t feel very much like them - she added, “So long as you won’t be a sour grape after we beat you in the final.”

Besides the fun of playing Louis, and the lifelong ambition to put a goal past Theodore, she had just given herself another reason that they had to beat Teppenpaw at the weekend… Louis was bound to rub it in a little at the ball if Aladren beat Pecari. But if Pecari didn’t even make the final, he was going to have a field day with her.

Who reads those? by Louis

“Same goes to you,” replied Louis, lightening up a little (ok, a lot) now that he had successfully asked Ingrid to the ball. “As Aladren winning is, of course, inevitable.” He grinned at her, confident that his team would once more prove unbeatable. Hopefully his confidence wasn’t misplaced, as he was sure Ingrid wouldn’t let him forget it if the unthinkable happened.

He was quite relieved that Ingrid had said yes. Emmy had already found herself a Dustin, so he wouldn’t have been able to use his best friend as a back-up, and going alone would have been quite sad and more than a little boring. Besides, if Emmy could get a date Louis wanted to show that he could get one too! Hopefully the Sonora ball would be more interesting than French ones, which for a young kid were really rather dull (although less dull for the older kids…).

Louis thought that Ingrid was quite different from some of the other pureblood girls he’d met at Sonora, a lot less grown-up ( a bad thing, in Louis’s books; growing up meant becoming a carbon-copy of his father, an experience he was anxious to avoid). But Ingrid didn’t seem to take things too seriously. His parents had been surprisingly quiet on the whole ball front, no doubt expecting their son to take a respectable pureblood girl with good connections. Not that Louis had taken their expectations into account at all when deciding who to ask. He had been tempted to ask a muggleborn, just to spite them, but for certain reasons that wouldn’t really work. Besides, he didn’t want to limit his options just for spite, especially as he’d already decided that he’d most like to go with Ingrid.

“Feeling confident for the Teppenpaw match, then?” he asked, moving on to the more interesting topic of Quidditch. “What are your game tactics?” And yes, he was trying to see if he could get any useful information out of her, but it wasn’t as if he thought she’d actually tell him.

Theodore, probably by Ingrid

“Pff, Dill’s gotta miss the Snitch at some point,” she said. Everyone said this. It was weird how it was rapidly proving itself to not be true. “Or maybe we’ll just run so many circles round your Chasers that it won’t matter what he does.” She thought Louis seemed more upbeat but took it to be because the conversation had shifted to more fun and familiar territory rather than connecting it with her answer about the ball.

“Realistically? I’d be an idiot if I said we aren’t going to have to work for it,” she admitted, when he asked about the Teppenpaw match. There was a fine line between keeping up the bravado and the banter, because that was just what they did, and setting herself up for a heck of a fall. “Their Chasers are pretty green, but there’s not a huge difference between us all, except for Joella. And they’ve never been a team before, but technically none of the rest of us have either, seeing as we didn’t play properly with our new recruits last year. I want to say the odds are in our favour but it’s probably closer than most people are giving Teppenpaw credit for,” which would make it look a heck of a lot worse for them if they did lose.

“As for tactics, we were thinking of opening with the ‘how dumb do you think I am formation,’ with a solid ‘don’t be such an asshole’ in the defence section,” she added, with a sarcastic roll of her eyes at him, “Why, what are you pulling out for the final?”
