It had been four years. It was only supposed to be a temporary position, but it appeared as though Alfie was never going back to his team. What with the majority of their time being spent investigating his father, he was considered to be too much of a liability. Luckily Cecily was keeping things quiet until they had all their evidence assembled, but Alfie worried that should she find everything she needed it could cost him his job, his livelihood, his good reputation, everything. Father was too smart to get caught, Alfie knew that, and a small part of him wanted his father to get away with everything since it would mean he wouldn’t lose anything more than he already had. Yet at the same time Alfie wanted his father to pay for everything he had done—not just to others, but also to him.
But none of that was here, at Sonora, where Alfie was realising he actually enjoyed teaching students. He had long since retired his harsh, strict teaching policies, it being too exhausting to push his students all the time, but he still did expect 110% from them in class and still kept up with his quizzes which were daily for the Advanced and Intermediate students and weekly for the Beginners. Teaching was not Alfie’s only duty, somehow he had also been made Head of House. He wondered at that sometimes, but he did enjoy the office he was awarded in the Aladren common room and his Head of House room was equally pleasant.
As the new Aladrens were sorted in, he smiled and clapped, wondering how many of them would enjoy his class, how many of them would complain about his rigorous teaching style like he knew many of his current students already did. When the feast was over, Alfie stood and brushed off his khaki pants before walking over to the Aladren table and standing next to two of the new girls who were still a bit blue. “First year Aladrens,” he called as the older students brushed by him with their friends to go up to their rooms. “Just if you could all come here and stand by me, my name is Professor Pye and I will be your Defense Against the Dark Arts professor and Head of House for the next seven years. I will take you up to your common room now where you can talk a little or go up to your rooms and sort your things.”
He waited until each of the new Aladren students that he could remember—he’d always had a talent for faces, one of the reasons he’d gone so far as an Auror before all that stuff had happened—were there and he lead them out of the hall up to the Library wherein the common room was located.
