The end is nigh? by Delivery Owl

The tawny owl tucked her wings neatly in as she glided gently down towards the staff table. She sat patiently waiting. It was unusual for the Professors to all be absent and she ruffled her feathers a little impatiently. The routine was that she brought the paper, was paid in owl treats and those strange metal tokens her keepers collected (she had tried them once and found them to be hard and strange tasting, and thus was slightly mystified as to what they wanted with them) and then she left. Waiting had never figured into the arrangement before.

Luckily, she didn't have long to ponder this crisis before a student came bustling up to her.

“Hoo?” she enquired hopefully, holding out her leg and clicking her beak in anticipation of the treats to follow. She did this every day and thus, in spite of the strange confusion during recent weeks, she really could not comprehend how special or impressive it was that, attached to her leg, was that morning's paper. And on the front page, swirling in and out of view through some rather familiar purple clouds, was a rather familiar school...

Sonora storm latest!
Clouds start to shift but contact yet to be made.

Progress was made in shifting the mysterious purple clouds surrounding the well known school last night, although no further progress has been made in contacting those inside the building. Samples of the smog taken by ministry wizards were still being analysed although preliminary findings have confirmed that they are non-toxic. This was a relief to anxious parents, although until contact with their children is re-established, they are understandably sceptical of the reassurances supplied by officials.

The parent group, chaired by Leonora Wolseithcrafte, has become increasingly critical of what they see as the ministry's slow response to the crisis. A ministry spokeswizard attempted to reassure parents that they were doing all they could whilst ensuring the safety of their operatives, adding that they were confident that the clouds would cleared by the end of the week. The hope of everyone concerned is that this will produce an end to the current dilemma, although the ministry has been reluctant to take a firm stance on this until they break through the cloud barrier, as there may be unknown obstacles beyond.
