The fair has come to town by The Plotter

The mysterious occurrences in different areas of the school had not good unobserved. However, it seemed, they had largely gone unremarked upon. Perhaps those who had viewed them were unsure of what they had seen and thus didn't know how to report it, or to whom. Perhaps they thought that, if they did, their sanity would be questioned. Both were quite reasonable barriers, and perhaps it was a combination of both of these factors which had kept the knowledge of these going on to only the few immediate witnesses. Until now. Or rather, somewhat more accurately, the number of direct witnesses was just about to under-go a dramatic increase.

It was early one week day morning, towards the very end of the year, when around the Entrance Hall, and obscuring the way through to breakfast, were a large number of stalls. It seemed that the fair had come several weeks early and to the wrong part of the school. And was being run not by the students, as advertised, but by a host of colourful characters who had never been seen in the school before. They looked like fair folk, dressed in bright costumes, some with painted faces, and all eagerly calling the passing students to come and try their hand at their stalls – to buy their candy floss, to spin the tombola, or to try their hand at the coconut shy.

Every now and then, one or more of the stalls would flicker and vanish, making enough space for the students to get through, if they could tear their eyes away from the strange phenomenon. Behind them all, and only dimly and occasionally audible above the hubbub of the stalls and their holders, the voice of Tavarius Mimms could be heard, crying something to the effect of 'Get back in! Back in I tell you!'

1st world problems (Selina, Amelia, Seth, and Florence) by Headmistress Kijewski-Jareau

Kiva stood in the hall in front of Tavarius Mimms’ portrait. She had just had a long conversation with him regarding what was currently happening with Cascade Hall and now she had to figure out what to do about it. Already she had a headache over it. She was going to have to poor over the old records of the school to determine what sort of ancient magic was used for the room and the best expert to resolve the issue. Jeff was not going to be happy that it would be a late night for her. He was hoping for a nice dinner together.

Kiva pointed her wand down the hall and her patronus shot forth from it and darted away carrying her message. Her patronus was that of a large fluffy cat. It wasn’t always that. Before it had been a red panda. Her patronus had changed after her father had passed. She knew that it was of her old cat, Ria, who had been the last gift and connection between herself and her dad.

The patronus would go to specific staff members, Professor Olivers, Professor Skies, and the Groundskeeper. While she waited for them, Kiva manifested large curtains that covered the problematic area, from Mim’s portrait and across either side of the hall, making Cascade inaccessible. A sign was hung in the center of either side of the hall advising students that the Hall was closed until further notice. Knowing she had time before the professors found her, Kiva walked the short distance to the plant hall. “Tony.” She called down the hall to the plant to the end who seemed to come alive when she called out. “Send word to Amelia that she is needed. We have an issue. Also, have Tuppy come up here.” Kiva added as an afterthought. Tony saluted and went to work.

Returning to the hall, Kiva waited until all parties were present. “The Mirage Chamber has filtered into Entrance Hall. I am not sure what has happened or how to stop it. It’s incredibly old magic and a specialist is likely needed. Right now, I do not feel comfortable allowing the students to have their meals in Cascade with this happening. Who knows what this interactions may cause for them and parents will likely have a fit.” Kiva commented, sighing at the prospect of receiving those owls. “So, we need to find a space suitable and sanitary for the students to use as a replacement for the hall for the time being. And we need to find a way to contain the issue until an expert can be found.” She had decided on these individuals for a reason. Amelia as she was Deputy and obviously needed to be aware of the situation. Florence because she was the head Charms professor and might know someone or a way to a solution, Selina because she was the Transfiguration professor and those two subjects often intertwined, and Seth because he knew the school better than anyone and might know of the best place to house the students for a while.

“Misses is asking to see me?” A small voice piped up and Kiva found Tuppy standing off to the side. “Tuppy, due to an unforeseen circumstance, Cascade Hall is closed to dining. This will put a hamper on serving meals and put you and your staff out for a while. We’re trying to find a place, but it might mean making special trips for the time being.” Tuppy said nothing, but nodded her understanding. “Seth will help with making any accommodations to help the Elves. Just let me know if the students give any of you a difficult time. You may go back now; I’ll let you know when we have found a place.”

Kiva returned back to the curtain. “It’s been fading in and out, but lasting longer each time. When I first began teaching here, the charms for the weather malfunctioned and it took us the better part of the school year to fix them. We don’t have enough time, this hall has to be ready for when the examiners come. Any ideas on where to start?” She asked them.
