Aladrens, follow me! by Professor Fawcett

His glasses prescription had grown a bit stronger and his hair a bit grayer over the holidays, and his joints unfortunately a bit creakier, but John Fawcett did not find that the presence of absence of first years made him feel like or think of himself as an old man, at least not to the extent that intermediates could. This was a very good thing, as he noticed he had gotten a decent number of first years this year, which was also a good thing, as one of his other fairly substantial groups was in its seventh year and would soon be gone. He could only hope for now that the first years would mirror the seventh years in ambition and distinction, though he was reasonably sure he could count on one of them to be fairly well-behaved if nothing else, as he was the Headmistress’ son.

“Aladren first years,” he called at the end of the feast, glancing briefly at Amelia at the next table in concern as he did before focusing back on the formerly-blue eleven-year-olds who were his responsibility. “Come here, please, Aladren first years.”

He did a quick head count and found he had as many as he had seen Sorted into his House. One of them, he had noticed, had been talking with Alicia Bauer; he was glad that the fifth years seemed to be a fairly harmonious, friendly year group, and that Henny was therefore not too likely to suffer…consequences…for her selection as prefect. He was not entirely sure it would have been a good thing for one of the seventh years in his House to have become Head Boy at all, given that the unfortunate young man would have still had to live with the four who had not won. “Good evening,” he said to the first years, with a reassuring smile. “I am Professor Fawcett, the Head of Aladren House, which you have joined tonight. Congratulations. Follow me now and I will show you to our common room. Be sure to pay attention so you can get back for breakfast tomorrow.”

OOC: This post is continued on the Aladren Common Room board. You may reply to it if you want to, but you don’t have to, and you don’t have to stop your Feast threads. “Fuzzy time” means you can write in two threads at the same time which happen at different times in-universe - for instance, a feast thread here and a 'getting to know you' thread with your roommates at the Aladren Common Room which happens after the feast in the story. Welcome to Sonora!
