Cepheus and Rupert Princeton

Doing the Inevitable. [tag Meghan] by Cepheus and Rupert Princeton

In the past week Cepheus had come up with a fantastic plan. His parents expected him to ask his betrothed to the upcoming ball and there really was no way around officially making her his date. Since he couldn't ask Theresa, the least he wanted was to spend time with her. More than dance. And that's where Rupert came in.

Cepheus inadvertently met his brother at the entrance of the dining hall during the lunch hour. He grabbed Rup by the arm right before his brother could push the door open and pulled him to the side. Rupert looked at him in surprise for a moment before narrowing his eyes. "What?" he asked. "I'm hungry."

"I need a favour," replied Cepheus. "Distract Meghan for me at the ball so I can spend time with Theresa."

Rup yanked his arm back. "Why would I do that?"

Cepheus had loads of blackmail against Rupert and he wasn't afraid to use it. He leant in and whispered something in Rup's ear that made his younger brother's eyes widen. "You wouldn't dare," he said, and Cepheus just looked at him.

"See if I won't."

Rupert glared at him before charging into Cascade Hall. Cepheus hated making this so complicated, but he knew his brother would do it. Rupert was too interested in saving his own skin and not getting disowned to refuse. If worse came to worst, however, Cepheus didn't think he would have actually done it. He was too fond of Rupert to really put him in danger of being expelled from the family. Cepheus followed him in and searched for Meghan. He thought she expected to be asked by him. He would charm her, lend her to Rupert for a dance or two, and then sweep back to her side as if nothing had happened. Meghan wouldn't even notice and they would both be able to have fun at the ball.

"Good afternoon, Meghan," he said when he reached her. "I'm sorry this is so informal, but I'd like to ask you to attend the ball with me at the end of the term." Cepheus didn't think Meghan had any strong feelings towards him, so he didn't think she would mind the little switch even if she found out. After all, he wasn't completely tied down until they were legally wed, at least on his end.

Answering the inevitable by Megan Brownbriar

Megan was sitting at her table, minding her own business, eating and reading from her Transfiguration textbook to get her homework done at the same time when she saw Cepheus and Rupert walk into the room. Knowing Ceph (when he was done talking to his brother) would be headed towards her, she closed her notebook and textbook to prepare for his assumed arrival next to her. She knew that there was to be a Ball over the summer at the Princeton Manor to announce their betrothal, but none but the two families knew about it. Meggie wasn't even sure if Gareth knew to be honest with herself.

She knew that she and her cousin had drifted apart a bit in their years at school, but she hoped that she'd get some time with him in the near future to (at the very least) get some information on his best mate, her betrothal, Cepheus Princeton. The one who (she noticed) was coming straight for her with Rupert practically stomping away from him.

Meg nodded her head to him, "Good afternoon to you as well, Cepheus." she added, after his good afternoon to her. "Invitation accepted." she said, with a slight bit of defeat in her heart. Megan made sure that the defeat wouldn't be heard by him, or by anyone, but she definitely felt it. Sure, she would be expected to go with him, especially by her father and the rest of their family, but she'd almost rather have gone with Rupert. Sure, he was younger than she, but Rupert had something that Cepheus didn't have. He had understanding, and Meggie liked that.
