Pecari First years, this way please! by Professor O'Rourke
Summer and come and gone, though somewhat more eventfully than was normal for the Astronomy Professor. He’d been visited by Kaede over the holiday, which was always a delight, as well as being asked to head one of the school’s upcoming challenges. Though his part in the school’s activities for the year was still months away, Alexander O’Rourke had never been one to procrastinate. He was also surprised when the Headmistress had asked him, once again, to step in for Professor Levy—this time, he’d be temporarily taking over her Head of House duties. Alex was appreciative that Kiva had considered him for the position, and felt as though maybe after three years at Sonora, he was finally gaining some footing.He watched with interest as the newest students were sorted, and tried to keep track of the brown ones. Pecari House had a reputation for being the most waggish of the four houses, so Professor O’Rourke took great care in keeping track of them. There were only six faces to remember, and the seemed to be keeping together, so he hoped it wouldn’t be too difficult to wrangle them after the feast.
The Englishman clapped as the new prefects and head students were announced, and was slightly taken aback at the reaction of many of the students when Quidditch was taken off the agenda for the school year. He’d never been particularly fond of the sport, finding it a distraction to learning rather than having any real educational value outside of learning to work as a team.
Alex wasn’t much of a team player when it came down to it. He was far more focused on his impending duties than he was on catching up with his colleagues. He had a sneaking suspicion that some of them wouldn’t approve of his lifestyle if they really got to know him anyway, not that he cared much. As long as his students were getting a decent education, the only opinion he cared about was Kiva’s.
Soon the meal was over, and he set about gathering the first years together in order to see them to their common room. Luckily, he’d spent the afternoon figuring out how to find the entrance, and familiarizing himself with the Pecari common room.
“First year Peccaries, over here please!” Alex called as he waited for the group of students to assemble about him. “Welcome to Sonora, and to Pecari House. I am Professor O’Rourke, and I have been asked to step in for your Head of House, Professor Levy, and show you to your common room. Now, if you’d kindly follow me, and stay together, we’ll be on our way.” Alex said with a smile before leading the pack of first years from the hall.
