Dear Headmistress by Liam Ammon

Liam had never felt more intimidated by a piece of paper in his entire life. The worst part was that this particular sheet of parchment was blank. His hand was shaking a little, and it took all of his concentration not to knock over the bottle of ink as his dipped his quill into it. I really should look into a self-inking quill. He thought to himself as he began to write in his best handwriting.

He wasn’t really one for writing letters to begin with, and tried to remember all of the rules about it that he’d learned back in his other school. He imagined that they were still the same in Wizard school, but English Composition wasn’t exactly on the syllabus any more. Liam wanted to make a good impression in this letter; and although the subject matter could be considered laughable, it was something he was serious about. Plus it was the first letter he’d ever written to the Headmistress. It needed to be perfect.

Dear Headmistress,
I am really looking forward to the end of term bonfire, particularly the marshmallow roast. I’m writing because I need to ask you a favor. I’m not really sure what the ingredients for marshmallows are, and I have friend who doesn’t eat animal products. To the best of my knowledge, they don’t have animal parts in them, but I could be wrong. She’s never had a smore before, and I think that’s a crime against humanity. She has never experienced the joys of bacon, and will never know how great hotdogs are, I don’t want her to miss out on smores as well. If you could just make sure that marshmallows are ok for her to eat, I’d be very thankful and I’m sure she would be too.
Thanks for doing such a good job at being Headmistress, and thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Liam Ammon
Second year, Pecari.

Liam set his quill down and wiped his brow. He got a little sweaty when he was nervous, but thankfully the letter escaped completely dry. He read it over and over, and finally decided that it was acceptable. Hopefully she’d be able to help. He slipped it into an envelope and sealed it before addressing it to the Headmistress.

He still hadn’t made it to the owlery yet, thought an apology letter to his mother was probably in order. Instead, he decided to leave his letter on the Headmistress’ chair in Cascade Hall. Probably not the best approach, but as it was nearing dinner time, Liam hoped she’d see it. It felt a little awkward approaching the staff table, even though it was empty. He quickly set it on her chair before swiftly exiting the hall. He was definitely going to need to shower before dinner.
