New friend...maybe? by Clara Abernathy, Pecari

Clara spotted her cousin Andri sitting at one of the tables in the large hall and hurried to join her. "Wuz up cuz? How you doing this morning?" Clara asked as she sat across from her cousin. She spotted apples and pancakes on a tray in front of her and filled up a plate with the fluffly delights. Clara always had loved pancakes. "This may sound kinda strange, but I met the coolest boy in my Potions class," she rambled as she poured syrup over her pancakes. "He and I were partners. It worked out pretty well. We managed to finish the potion and not blow it up," she told her cousin sounding very proud of herself. Andri had no doubt been appraised of Clara's potion disasters in the past and might be glad to know that she managed to do one without hurting herself or anyone else.

"Anyways I think he might be a second year or something. He is probably the palest human being I have ever seen. Like he's whiter than my bed sheets, hair and all. The only thing about him thats not so pale are his eyes. He has like red eyes or something. They're really pretty. And hes soo quiet...like deafly quiet. I almost couldn't hear him half the time while we were working together. He seems kinda jumpy too like if you farted too loud or something he'd jump right out of his skin. But hes really sweet. I just wanted to hug him and slug her when some girl named Carrie scared the willies out of the poor kid. He looked like he was the one being yelled at and not some other girl. He was soo confused when he asked me why the professor yelled at her for being rude and made her apologize. It was like the poor kid had never heard of the concept or something. I tried explaining it to him although I'm not sure I did a very good job. Hopefully he understood. I don't know."

She paused long enough to take a few bites of her breakfast before she started talking again. "I hope I get to work with him again in Potions that was really cool. The boy's name is Angel, by the way. Angel Shield...do you know him?" She continued eating her breakfast as she waited for her cousin to reply.

Friend? Could be... *wonders* by Andrina Thornton

Andri was excited about Aerie’s birth and was happy as a full pig to be a big sister again. The only thing that made her nervous now was the fact that she’d actually have a game for her house this half of term. The normally not-nervous twelve year old was just that. Nervous.

The thing was, that she was only a Reserve, so that didn’t mean that she’d actually END UP playing. However, she’d seen how Aladren games in the past had gone, especially against Pecari. She knew the odds were good that either she or one of the other two Reserves would end up in the game and THAT made her nervous.

It wasn’t that the second year didn’t know what she was doing in order to play, or that she just didn’t want to actually play against her older sister. It was more along the lines of the fact that she was just a bit nervous for the possibility that she would have to play in the game against Pecari. Aladren had been slaughtered last year by her sister’s replacement, (which incidentally was not cool to either Amira or Andri) but she hadn’t been playing then. She was in the stands watching the game and also Mira and she read the anger even if her sister wasn’t facing her. Now the game was facing her and Andrina Thornton couldn’t sleep a wink.

She finally gave up the entire thought of sleep when the sun came up. With a sigh, she readied herself for the game and went down to breakfast at Cascade Hall. Since it was very early yet, nobody else was in the room and she sat there, just staring at the empty plate in front of her until food appeared before her. Pancakes! she said to herself as she smiled sleepily. She put two pancakes on her plate and coated them with confectionary sugar. Eating slowly, and yawning every few bites, she was still eating when others started arriving in the Hall. Among the other students meandering in that morning was her younger cousin, Clara.

Clara hurried over to her and she smiled to her, a yawn escaping her mouth in the process. “Hey cuz.” she answered her welcome. “I’m alright, I guess…” she started. No. I’m not going to tell her I’m nervous. I’ll never be able to live it down. Never. she thought and forced a smile towards her little cousin. Clara filled up her plate and started talking, like only Clara and Brielle could do. Though even Brielle sometimes had trouble getting a word in edgewise where Clara was involved. Clara went on and on about some boy that she was partnered with in Potions class and how they hadn’t blown up their potion. “Good for you!“ she said, praising her cousin’s ability to NOT blow something up. It didn’t take Clara talking too long for Andri to realize that she’d been talking about Angel.

Angel Shield, the boy who had fascinated her the year before. Angel Shield, the second year (just like herself) Teppenpaw student. Angel Shield, the boy who drew her so well, so perfectly and had gotten her stuck on him for the longest time. To this day Andri was still stuck on the boy, but she didn’t want to scare him away either! Andri smiled and nodded to Clara.

“Yes, Angel’s a second year Teppenpaw. He’s really pale, that’s because he’s an albino. That’s why his eyes are red too.” She slipped in as Clara was talking. She nodded when her cousin mentioned that he was really jumpy and Andri couldn’t help but giggle at her cousin’s example of showing how jumpy the boy was. “Even I was scared by Carrie… She doesn’t exactly scream ‘I’m a nice person’ to me, doesn’t to you either I’d assume?” she added, unsure if Clara had heard her, but since she’d paused to take a few bites of breakfast, she only hoped her cousin had heard her.

“Yes, I know him. He’s in my year, just in Arista, Addi and Brielle’s house. I’m glad you liked working with him. You know, he’s a really good artist… He draws better then a camera takes photos…” she said with a kind of airy voice. There was something about that boy that got her stuck. She almost felt like she was in the mud around him and she didn’t know why.

Really?......WOW by Clara

Clara wasn't really surprised to learn that Angel could draw, however it did surprise her to learn that he drew that well. "He does? Really? WOW!" she said completely amazed. "That is really cool. I mean it doesn't really surprise me that he draws. I figured somebody that quiet had to have a hobby of some kind. Do you suppose he does anything else besides draw? Maybe he'd like to learn to play the piano. I could teach him if he wants," Clara continued to ramble, shooting question after question at her cousin. It was when Clara finally stopped talking for a moment that she realized Andri called him something. An Albino. She said that was why he was soo pale and his eyes were red.

Clara was really curious now. She had seen an albino mouse before in the barn back home, but she had no idea that people could look the same way. Outside of the mouse she had never seen an albino before. She began to wonder if it wasn't just mice and people who could be albinos. She began to wonder if anything else could be as well. "Andri, whats an Albino?" she asked curiously. "Does it hurt being an Albino? Why do they have to be soo pale? Do their eyes always have to be red? Do you suppose other things could be albinos too? Do you think Angel likes being an Albino or do you suppose it bothers him? He looked kind-of surprised when I told him I thought his eyes looked cool. I don't suppose he hears that alot huh?"

Clara finally remembered that she had a plate of pancakes in front of her that were going cold and procceeded to devour her food. She was still taking bites and chewing as she waited for her cousin's reply to her questions.

*Nods and sighs, a goofy grin on her face* by Andri

Andri smiled at Clara's amazed response to her statement that Angel was a good artist. "I don't really know if he has any other hobbies..." she said, thinking about smacking herself in the face later on for not knowing anything else really about him. "But he drew a spot on picture of me on our first wagon ride here..." Andri added as a goofy smile crept up onto her face. Shaking her head fast to bring herself back to the present when Clara asked about him perhaps wanting to learn piano.

"I dunno... But I would..." she said, using an odd far-away-voice that she didn't realize she was using.

Clara stopped talking and Andri wondered if she'd opened up a can of worms with her little cousin. Clara sent a barrage of questions about Albinos and Andri's mind whirled inside her head like a hamster wheel. Clara started to eat again, which made the conversation pause. Andri tried to understand all the questions Clara had asked in order to answer them for her, but she was almost positive that she'd miss some.

"An albino is a person who's missing melatonin in their bodies. I don't know if it hurts, but I'm guessing not. Uhm, they're pale because the melatonin is what gives a person the coloring in their skin, eyes and hair. I don't know really why their eyes are red or if other things can be albinos. I'm guessing it probably bothers Angel, but I don't know..." Andri said, hoping she'd answered her little cousin's barrage of questions. The Aladren was glad she'd started a little research on the topic of albinos...
