All Fifth and Sixth Years!! Make yours count! by Headmistress Kijewski

It had been announced the night before during dinner that all Fifth and Sixth year students were excused for a short period of time during their first lesson the following morning and were requested to join the Headmistress in the Cascade Hall once breakfast had been completed. With the year coming closer to the end and the examinations forever looming on her students, Kiva wanted to get the voting completed so that the students could return to their scheduled lessons and she would be able to tally the ballots in time for the announcement at the Fair.

She stood quietly at the Staff table waiting for the younger year stragglers to leave the Hall to head to their lessons and to allow the Fifth and Sixth years to settle in and get over any worry they may have about what this was about. Kiva figured the Sixth years have caught on by now as they have had to do all of this the year previous, but the Fifth years might still have some anxiety over it.

On the table beside her were the voting cards and some quills. She had been on staff for so long that this process lost some of its glamour. She still enjoyed the idea that it was the students who chose who would represent them and their school the following year, but she knew most of the time is had to do with popularity. There was nothing to be done about it. Such things would continue on into their adulthood anyway. Perhaps that was a bit cynical of her to think, but she was nearing forty and saw no difference in how adults work than she did now with the students.

“Hello everyone.” Kiva greeted with a polite smile. Her once wild curls were softened by charms and her old look of capris and tee-shirts were replaced by pencil skirts and blouses. She sometimes missed her previous casual look. Back then, she hadn’t really cared about anything other than comfort. Now she had to try to be comfortable and look professional. It was still something she was getting used to, even now when the end of the year was drawing near. “I asked you all here today because it is time for you to vote for next year’s Head Boy and Girl. I have the ballots here as well as some quills incase you need one.” Kiva held out the ballots and some quills. “Please take one and do not discuss your votes. These will remain anonymous.” She really didn’t care if they decided to chat about it after the fact, but she wanted the actually voting portion to remain fresh and untainted by other opinions.

“I will announce your new Head Boy and Girl at the Midsummer Fair. Find a seat and when you are done, please return the ballot and quill to me. If you have any questions, please ask me.”

(OOC: Here is the form. Voting is In Character (if you have more than one character in these years, you vote per character) and can remain anonymous if you want. You do not have to respond to this post, but you can if you feel the need. Please be sure to vote because your vote does matter.)

Really? by Nina Brockert

Nina gathered in the Cascade Hall with the rest of the fifth and sixth years. She was sure that this was no big deal and it was just the Head Girl and Boy elections and, as it turned out, she was right. Truthfully, she couldn't imagine why else they'd have been gathered here or that anyone would think there was any other reason why they were.

What she wasn't so sure about was who would be on the ballot. Oh, Nina knew Raines Bradly would get it for the boys. There was literally nobody else. If there were, she really doubted Raines would have a chance. The Pecari knew that if the other boys were still around, there was no way she'd vote for him. First off, Nina had rather gotten along with the other three. Jude had taken her to the ball her first year, she and Theo talked family over broom racing and she'd hung out with Tobar, whom the sixth year had found incredibly hot, in MARS once.

Furthermore, Raines Bradly was pretty much every trait of an obnoxious pureblood boy personified. Nina doubted that she'd ever have to marry him thankfully-he was sure to end up with Veronica-but she did fear ending up betrothed to a guy who was similar. Of course, her great-grandfather didn't seem to think that he'd be able to get Nina betrothed at all due to her being a Pecari, something not associated with propriety.

She shouldn't have been so worried, now that she'd even heard a rumor that Tawny of all people had been betrothed but still it rather hurt Nina that Great Grandfather didn't really think much of her. She didn't even know why it bothered her so much, why she even cared what he thought. Nina used to be more confident in herself, now she needed to feel that she belonged. The sixth year normally wouldn't even want to be betrothed, she'd rather choose for herself, but just that he didn't think anyone would want her upset her a great deal.

The Pecari looked over the ballot. Obviously, Raines was the only name listed for boys. Nina marked him off due to the fact that she had no other options. She honestly didn't know why they even bothered voting in his case. Actually, sometimes she didn't even know why they bothered at all, given that who would win was usually a forgone conclusion given it was rather a popularity contest.

Next, Nina scanned the girls' names. Rachel Bauer getting on was no surprise at all. She'd seemed to be campaigning earlier this year, like she expected it.The Pecari remembered Adam's tale of someone else who'd acted the same way and been rather disappointed. It was pretty much her older brother's favorite non-Talitha related memory of Sonora. Dulce was quiet-which did not at all mean she would make a bad Head Girl-and really didn't seem to like the rest of them much. However, she had started that tutoring thing which was a point in her favor.

Nina was about to mark the Teppenpaw off as she was sure the final spot had gone to Mel. Mel was the kind of person who got everything in life with no consideration for others whatsoever, though she had improved slightly. The kind of person whose ego was big enough as it was. Even if Nina had been inclined to vote for her in the first place, her older brother would probably never speak to her again if she did.

However, the final name caught her eye. It was not her roommate's name, it was her own! Nina's eyes widened in surprise. Being prefect had been shocking enough, now she had a shot at Head Girl ? Did she want that? Of course, she did! She quickly marked her own name off and handed in her ballot.
