She couldn’t stop smiling. It was also expectedly difficult to stop looking at her left hand or, more specifically, the engagement ring on it. Lilac was in love and engaged to be married; in just a few months, she would cease to be Professor Crosby at all. A new surname would take its place.
The brunette professor’s right hand was practically tied to that of her fiancé, and the link rested on top of the table. It was completely wonderful (and convenient) that Seth worked at Sonora too. She got to see him all the time, and that made her happy. He was going to make her happy forever.
Lilac didn’t want to feast to end; she didn’t want to move. The moment was beautiful, and when something was as cheerful and surprisingly wonderful as this felt, it was all in vain. Everything “nice” was worthless. She felt one had to stop and smell the roses once in a while. If one did not stop to recognize nature’s little, beautiful moments--the splashes of color, the smiles of loved ones--it was all a waste.
However, time marched on, unstoppable and unmerciful. When the feast came to a close, she had to dislocate her fingers from Seth’s and search out the small yellow students. “First year Teppenpaws!” cried the Head of House, her voice at enchanted volume so as to be heard over the roar of the Cascade Hall. “This way, please!”
Counting heads to make sure there seemed to be the right number of yellow children, she beamed at the first years. “Welcome to Sonora, ladies and gents!” Lilac hoped these students would enjoy their days at Sonora as much as she enjoyed the school. She’d only been working there for four years, but it was an amazing experience, and she remembered her own school days fondly, although she had attended the Romanian School of Magic.
Her grey eyes scanned them over, wondering what each was like. She wondered if they would like her. It seemed like many students didn’t care for her, but the twenty-nine year old hoped they knew she tried her very best. There was nothing she was unwilling to do for them; she had already compromised her unique dressing style because it seemed to distract.
“If you could be so kind as to follow me,” said Lilac, “I’ll show you to your new home, Teppenpaw Common Room.” She wondered if they were eager, and she recalled practically shaking in her own first year. “Be sure not to dillydally, and don’t get lost! Let’s go!”
