Aaron had never been especially comfortable with new people, and there was something about the new Headmaster that didn’t ring quite right with the black-haired, half-Italian man. Maybe it was just that he had suddenly found himself the staff member with the most technical seniority, or maybe it was that he missed celebrating the beginning of the new term with Sadi, who had been his close friend before she had been his boss. There was the remote possibility that he was offended at being replaced as Acting Deputy Headmaster, but Aaron didn’t want the position, really. That meant altogether too much contact with adults, and too much responsibility. No, Aaron was really happy as the slightly eccentric Charms professor and Head of Pecari House, nothing more. But something about David Regal had led him to keep a low profile during the Opening Feast, and it was with no little relief that Aaron excused himself when it was time to gather the Pecari first years.
Tophat made of pink bubbles (actually Transfigured and Charmed frogs) atop his head, wearing his favourite pair of crimson dress robes with a silver dragon Charmed to slither around on them, Aaron cast a slight Sonorus on himself before booming out the call for first year Pecaris. Once all the appropriate students had gathered around him, Aaron removed the charm and continued to speak in a slightly-above-normal voice. Cascade Hall was fairly loud, as it was usually during the Feast, and he needed the first years to hear him.
“Hey guys,” the black-haired, gray-green eyed Italian said, smiling down at the clustered eleven-year-olds. “I’m Professor McKindy; I teach Charms and I’m also the Head of Pecari House. I’m going to show you guys around the school in a second, and how to get to our commonroom,” actually, at the moment, he hanging around to see if any stragglers would join them, but that was okay. “Remember, if you get lost or need help, you can always stop an older student or ask me. I have an office connected to the Commons and you should be able to reach me quickly. Similarly,” Aaron added mildly, “I will be able to reach you quickly. Just in case any of you decide to set off fireworks in the Commons—it’s a bad idea, don’t even think about trying it.” The past couple of years of marriage and parenthood, especially when ‘parenthood’ involved the combination of his biological daughter, Jessie, and foster son, Cooper, had taught him quite a bit about what a pair of motivated teenagers could do with simple household supplies.
“All right then!” Aaron said, once he was sure the kids were ready. “Now pay attention and follow me!”
|OOC| This thread will be continued in the Pecari Commonroom. You can respond to here if you want, but you don’t have to post here to post in response to the second thread, and you don’t have to finish your Cascade Hall posts before you respond to either. If your character has a question for Aaron, please tag me in your title so I can get to you ASAP!
