The Secret Cabal of Keepers (Lena, Makenzi, Luke) by Ginger Pierce

As an assistant captain, Ginger had access to the rosters of the other teams, and she was most interested in looking at one thing: the Keepers. She was now the longest standing Keeper in the school and she was curious to see who the other teams were fielding now that Theodore and Liliana had graduated. Makenzie had returned to Crotalus, and now Aladren had Lena who, like Makenzie, was actually older than Ginger but newer to the position, and Pecari had the a first year, Luke Powell. She was a tiny bit disappointed Pecari hadn't assigned a girl to the position, but she decided it didn't change her plans.

She had wanted to include Makenzie in their Keeper practices last year after seeing her first game had brought back bad memories of Ginger's first game, but Liliana hadn't seemed too keen on the idea so it had stayed just them for that year, but now Liliana had graduated and Ginger was the senior ranking Keeper of the school. Unwilling to end the secret Keeper practices that she attributed to her vast improvements in her chosen position, she sent out letters to the other three Keepers, inviting them to meet her in the MARS Sports Room, and not to tell anyone about it.

Once they had all arrived, she put a locking charm on the door and addressed her potential mentees in a low voice, "Welcome to the Secret Cabal of Keepers." She then smiled, and the darkened room lit up to reveal a facsimile of a Quidditch pitch. "Basically, I just thought I'd share some Keeping tips with you guys and we can all practice together. As Keepers, we never really directly go up against each other, so I don't think it's breaking team loyalties to work together to just get in some extra practice and talk Keeping techniques, but if anyone is uncomfortable with that, you are certainly welcome to excuse yourself. So is anyone in?"

Well this is a pleasant surprise. by Makenzie Newell

Admittedly, Makenzie was pretty surprised to receive a letter from Ginger Pierce. She was only a year Makenzie’s junior, but the two girls had never really interacted much aside from maybe a chance conversation in a class here or there, or staring at each other from across a Pitch. If the letter had come from anyone other than someone like Ginger, whose reputation for niceness was universally acknowledged, a request to meet with an included request for secrecy might have been a bit suspicious. But because it was a Teppenpaw, Makenzie felt no nerves or fear as the meeting approached, although she was quite curious what Ginger could want from her.

When at last Ginger’s intentions were revealed not only to her but Lena Westley and… some first year Pecari, Makenzie couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow. Secret cabal of Keepers, eh? That was a rather dramatic title for three teenage girls and one preteen boy practicing athletics together. Still, the gesture itself was really quite kind; most people with athletic prowess, Makenzie had noticed, seemed to want to keep all tricks and advice to their own team. But this was a sort of unity of position, especially since, as Ginger said, they never really competed with one another in their games.

“This is very nice of you,” the redhead said with genuine enthusiasm. This went beyond Teppenpaw niceness, especially given that Ginger was an Assistant Captain of her own team. Personally, Makenzie had never been too passionate about athletics--she’d never even cared at all prior to signing up for Crotalus last year--so the idea of devoting extra amounts of her time to Quidditch when she already had fairly rigorous team practices with Alistair wasn’t exactly ideal. But this was such a nice gesture, she didn’t feel right turning it down. “I’m in,” she added, glancing over at the other Keepers to await their responses.

This is a, um, surprise. by Luke Powell

Luke had thought it very odd when he had received a letter from a girl named Ginger Pierce, who he didn’t even know, inviting him to meet her in the sports room in MARS. Not only that, but she also wanted to meet in secret. It was all very strange indeed.

Curiosity got the better of him and Luke found himself showing up at the given location at the given time. He was not alone with this Ginger girl (who wasn’t even ginger, by the way) which would have put him at a bit more ease, had he not been surrounded by a group of girls much older than him. The first year felt seriously out of place and couldn’t begin to imagine what they wanted with him - something to do with Quidditch, he was lead to believe by the note, although none of these people were on his team.

He didn’t have to wait long to find out, however, as Ginger began to speak. Luke didn’t think it made any sense - what she was saying, what she was doing. Why did he want to practise with these weird girls? What was wrong with practising with his own team? Why did he want tips from someone he’d never even seen play when his aunt-cousin had in fact been a professional Keeper? Did the other positions do this or was it just Keepers? He dedicated enough time to Quidditch as it was.

But none of these questions or concerns did he voice aloud. He waited for the other girls to respond before it came his turn to say something. “Uh, sure, whatever,” he shrugged, in his typical go-with-the-flow manner.
