Lunchtime by Alessa Hinckley

The Cascade Hall was more busy as usual when Alessa sat down for lunch that day. She usually ate towards the end or the beginning of when lunch was being served because it was difficult for her to deal with many conversations going on at once. However, today, she had been studying earlier and now she was hungry. Too hungry to wait to eat.

So, Alessa wasn't very happy about it. There was nowhere to really sit because it seemed like the whole school was packed into this one room. Alessa had never liked that, not because she hated people-she wasn't like Tawny-but because she hated noise. She felt lucky to be an Aladren, because it was such a quiet house. Granted, Teppenpaws and Crotali weren't particularly loud either.

However, when any group of people got together, they made noise no matter how quiet they might have been individually. It tended to give Alessa a headache and sometimes the room took on that buzzing quality.

It actually made her feel a little sad sometimes. Granted, Alessa often liked to do her own thing, but sometimes, she did want to be around people and the noise, the overstimulation, forced her to isolate. To come here when it was busy was difficult for her. All social events were.

And that was only going to get worse. All proper pureblood ladies, as Alessa was being trained to be, did was go to parties and luncheons and other social functions. She didn't think luncheons would be too awful, hopefully they would take place in classy restaurants where the people were respectful of the conversations of others and not cause a scene. (Though, Alessa had to admit, others causing a scene could be awfully entertaining. She liked watching other people's dramas like one would listen to a program on the wireless.)

However, today she was going to have to stick it out. Alessa was way too hungry to go elsewhere for a bit and come back later. Unfortunately, now, she had to think about what she wanted to eat. A lady had to be concious of things like her figure and making a mess. Sometimes, it made Alessa wish she was still a child, just because she could eat and do more of what she wanted.

She decided on having a taco salad. Salad was considered the best thing for women to eat simply because it was good for their weight. Not that Alessa really had much to worry about. She was just taking a bite when someone sat down across from her and greeted her. The Aladren swallowed and replied pleasantly, trying to ignore the slight buzz in the room, "Hello."
