Headship Voting - All Fourth & Fifth Years by Headmistress Powell

At dinner the previous evening, it had been announced that all fourth and sixth year students would be excused from the first twenty minutes of their morning class the following day, and would be required to meet in the Cascade Hall once breakfast was formally over. The announcement had been made by professor McKindy, acting in Deputy Head capacity while Sadi desperately tried to find some administrative staff replacements and simultaneously battling her illness. The Headmistress had managed to make it to the voting itself which, while it wasn't an especially momentous occasion, would be her last as Headmistress at Sonora, so she was pleased to make an appearance. Traditionally, the voting that took place to elect next term's Head Boy and Head Girl was completed by fifth and sixth years, but for the past couple of years Sonora had been a year short, allowing fourth years to have their say, instead.

Sadi waited patiently as the students gathered around, looking like she always did, in muted shades of brown for her robes, her hair tied back neatly, and an air of calm. The students were probably becoming accustomed to her paler skin tones, tired eyes and weaker voice. Today wasn't so bad; she'd even managed a hearty breakfast, which was good for giving her strength to stand and wait for the students to settle. On the table beside Sadi were neat piles of parchment forms, and some writing materials, in case students had not thought to bring their own.

When everyone was gathered, the Headmistress did a quick check to ensure nobody was there who ought not to be, and then she cleared her throat, signaling it was time for the students to pay attention.

"Thank you for all being here. As the fifth years have probably concluded, this isn't anything that any of you need to worry about, although I do hope that you will take your responsibilities in voting seriously. I have here the forms - one for each of you - so you can anonymously vote for next year's Head Boy and Head Girl. Please do not discuss who you are going to vote for,” she didn’t doubt some discussion would take place after the event, but it was best that the voting reflected only the preferences of each individual. “The announcement of who has been successful in securing the roles of Head Boy and Head Girl will be made at the Midsummer concert at the end of term. Now, if you could please take one of these and pass them along," Sadi handed the pile of forms to the nearest student. "Try and find a spot on your own, and when you've made your decision, fill the form in - if you need writing materials they are on the table here for your use – and then please hand the forms back to me."

OOC: Form is here. Please vote IC - this will only take a couple of seconds. Thank you.

That was more political than I thought it would be by Jose Hernandez

Jose had been looking forward to the vote since last night, when he found out he'd get to be a part of it. Saul had explained what the twenty minutes off meant during his first year, and he'd been mildly envious of the older students since. Mostly because they got to vote, but also, admittedly, because they got twenty minutes off.

When he was looking at the ballot, though, he was less convinced he really wanted to be doing this. Head Boy was easy. He'd only really interacted with one of them before and he seemed perfectly well qualified, so checking that box did not require a lot of thought.

The girls were a different story.

He knew - he knew - he should be voting on who would be the most appropriate and responsible option, but . . . but there were other considerations to make. First of all, Tawny would be unlivable-with if her sister got it. So Pippa was off even though she shouldn't be.

And, and, well, Charlie. Okay, yes, Aladren had somehow beat Pecari this year even though both the Head Boy and the Head Girl were captains, but Charlotte Abbott was not nearly as focused and organized as them. If she was preoccupied by Head Girl stuff . . .

It was wrong, he knew it was wrong, but for Pecari's Quidditch Team . . . Quidditch Captain Jose Hernandez of Pecari voted for the least qualified of the girls nominated. And while he didn't think it would be nearly as much of an issue for Daniel . . . he felt even more certain of that vote, too.
