Post-midterm notice by Headmistress Powell

Technically, this should have occurred the first evening students returned to school after midterm. However, the Headmistress had been too ill at that time to make a full-school address. She had been unsuccessful in finding a replacement to take charge of the school with such short notice, and this situation hadn't improved with Deputy Head Dakin's resignation. Not that Sadi held Rowan in any disregard; it had just been bad timing. She had been managing. She had temporarily enlisted Professor McKindy as Acting DH, merely to keep the Board of Governors off her back. Aaron had no intention of maintaing the position once a replacement had been found, but Sadi was glad that he was able to help out for the time being. The Headmistress had also been able to pass some minor duties on to the Head Boy and Girl, and Miss Simms was being very helpful in assisting with administrative work (and in turn her student assistants were aiding her with her library duties). Nevertheless, it was only a week late that Sadi felt well enough to gather the school together in the Hall just before the evening meal was due to be served, and make her announcement.

"I hope you all enjoyed your midterm holiday, and are now settling back into your classes," the Headmistress began. "I promise I won't take up too much of your time," Sadi smiled, her calm voice tainted with fatigue. "My announcement concerns the Midsummer festivity. As many of you will know, this year's activity is due to be a concert, performed at the end of term. It will take the form of a variety concert, allowing all students who wish to take part to showcase his or her chosen hobby, activity or talent. Those who do not wish to perform will be eligible to judge these performances, and vote for category winners." This would hopefully give everyone the opportunity to participate in one way or the other.

"More details about this Variety Concert will soon be available, and sign-up sheets should start appearing around the school at the end of next week. In the mean time, you may wish to start thinking about which acts you would like to perform." That should be sufficient information for the time being; the concert wasn't until the very end of term, and the students would have plenty of time to ask questions after the sign-up sheets had been posted with further details. Sadi had said all she planned to. "I shan't delay your meal any longer. Enjoy your food."
