As usual, Tawny was glad to be back at school, even though the second years in her house were extremely annoying. Their room,(aside from the one boy's, of course) was right next to Tawny's and they were extremely loud and irritating. She could take loud noises at times-she wouldn't survive being in Pecari if she couldn't-but some people went too far. Tawny wasn't sure which one was the one singing loudly-and badly-but she sure had her suspicions and she would like to make that person shut up once and for all.
If she was going to be "treated" to a concert-that is, have it forced upon her- at least the music could be good .
Tawny also was fairly observant and sensed there was growing disharmony among the second year Pecari girls. If there was a way she could work that to her advantage somehow, she would. It would serve them all right for being annoying and trying to steal away her friend. (Of course, that friend had taken Tawny to the ball, not Nina or her twerpy, annoying roommates.)
But even with those annoying little gnats in her house, living in the room next door, it was still better than being home, though this summer had not been quite as bad as usual. Tawny felt she had finally bested her sister in something. While her parents were not thrilled with her going with a California Pierce, it was still better than a muggleborn, like Pippa had. They might not have been overly pleased with either girl, but they were certainly less thrilled with Pippa than her, for the first time in Tawny's life ever .
And Pippa sensed it too. Not so much that they were less happy with her than Tawny but just that they were unhappy with her and Pippa had been distressed about it. The Pecari, of course, had taken full advantage, especially with pointing out that Pippa was a bigger disappointment to them now than Tawny was. If she hadn't done that, she would have been totally bored all summer.
Still, right now, Tawny was in a fairly good mood. So decent in fact that when someone sat down across from her, she greeted them with a pleasant "Hello," rather than ignoring them or scowling and being irritated like usual.
