Closing Speech by Headmistress Powell

The last evening of the term saw the majority of the school gathered together for their final meal of the year (although some students would choose to eat breakfast the following morning, they would come in dribs and drabs, and many decided to skip that meal in favor of finding the last of their belongings). The next morning, the wagons would take students back home for the summer. It was therefore customary for the headteacher to close the year on this evening.

When everyone had gathered, Sadi stood from the staff table, and called the attention of her students. "Another fantastic term has come to an end," she said with a gentle smile. "We say farewell to our graduating seventh year," (who, incidentally, had been in their first year when Sadi began teaching at Sonora), "and bid them good luck. We also say goodbye to Professor Carter," this probably came as no great suprise to the students, particularly those who had formed a theory that the position was cursed; Sonora couldn't seem to keep hold of a transfiguration professor for longer than a term.

"I'm sure you are all eager to hear the House points results," Sadi resumed speaking once the smatterings of noise at her previous statements had settled. "So, in last place, with just ninety-one House points, is Teppenpaw." Sadi couldn't help but be disappointed in these students. True enough they did tend to be least ambitious of all the Houses, but less than a hundred House points in a whole year was poor. "Tied in second and third place, with two-hundred and fifty-two points each, are Crotalus and Aladren." Several of the Pecaris had already begun cheering by this point, as was to be expected from the most excitable House. "Which means that Pecari take the lead with two-hundred and seventy-three points. Congratulations, Pecari."

Once the cheers had subsided, the headmistress knew those assembled were ready to eat. Delaying no further, she said, "I wish everyone an enjoyable holiday!" Then, by magic, the food was served.
