John supposed he’d seen two or three Heads of House in his day at Sonora, but the details of their jobs had been either unknown at the time or since forgotten. He was, therefore, somewhat wary of attempting to be one. What he was supposed to do had, of course, been explained, but he’d had little enough time to rehearse. Most of it had been taken up in retracing the students’ route to the Aladren common room, which he had been forced to admit he’d mostly forgotten after four decades of not using it. Add in his relative lack of experience in managing children outside of a classroom setting, and John felt a bit…under-qualified.
He was not used to feeling under-qualified. He didn’t like it at all.
Since there was an established protocol, though, he thought it would be all right. He was fairly sure no one here could be more Aladren than he was; he had made it something of a minor art form. He also wasn’t completely unacquainted with the ways of kids; he did have three nieces, and they tended to stay with him and Allison for at least a week a year. Admittedly, Allison was more of a disciplinarian than he was, but Scott’s girls and the past few years of teaching at Sonora had familiarized him with the basic concept of what children were like.
With that thought in mind, he allowed the gentleman in the bubble hat and Coach Pierce to collect their students before he set about rounding up Aladrens, double-counting them to make sure he had the right number. Luckily, at least for the moment, it wasn’t a very large number. “Aladrens only, please,” he said, hoping they didn’t have any stowaways. He knew for a fact that he’d seen a Crotalus sit down with his students, and Crotali, in his experience, could be temperamental. Jumping ship completely would be against the rules, which wasn’t a very Crotalus thing to do, but then, his mother and wife were both prone to doing exactly what they pleased as long as they thought they could get away with it. “If you did not turn blue, you should not be in this group…Thank you…”
Once he was relatively sure he had the right students in hand, he addressed them properly. “I am Professor Fawcett,” he informed them, “and your new Head of House.” Merlin, that did sound odd, especially when directed to the students. At least it meant he had an office again. He’d missed having a proper office for the past fourteen years. An unused room at home just wasn’t the same. “I will now lead you to the Aladren common room. Follow me, and be sure not to get mixed up with another House.”
OOC: Continued in the Aladren Common Room. You do not have to respond to this message, or cut off your threads here in the Cascade Hall; this is simply to allow your characters to find their commons and so gain access to the rest of the school.
