Aiden O'Neil

Aiden was excited to start the Archery Club with Lena again this year. He had planned on starting earlier, but with his Prefect duties and CATS lessons going on, Aiden’s free time had dwindled greatly. Plus, Lena was no longer in the same classes as him since she was an Advanced student now, so Aiden didn’t get to see her as often as he used to. But, after some rescheduling, they finally found a night of the week that would work for the two of them to host the club.

Once they had decided on the day, everything else just fell together. They were able to book the MARS room for that evening and they quickly put together some signs that would direct people to the Sports Room on every other Thursday evening. He hoped that people’s Quidditch schedules didn’t clash, but it was bound to happen. There was just no way of being able to predict that stuff. They made the signs to be rather simple and direct due to the fact that there was always an interest in Archery, so the signs didn’t need to be showy.

Aiden was much more confident this year about hosting the club than he had been the year before. Not only was he more confident in himself because of the weight loss that he had kept off, but also because the fact that he had his teeth fixed over the summer. On top of that, Aiden had taken some additional Archery lessons over the summer after he had returned home from their stay in France. He felt like he could offer more to the newer members than he could have before.

The night of the club meet and greet was finally upon him. Aiden didn’t really have too much to do considering. The MARS Sports room did most of the work with turning the room into a mini Quidditch pitch, created the targets in various spots along the pitch, and provided the bow and arrows. Even the elves helped out by providing snacks and drinks. All Aiden had to do was be in the room before people started showing up. This is accomplished quite easily. And so, there he stood near the door as people began entering the room.

“Hi everyone!” He greeted cheerfully. “Thank you all for coming to the Archery Club! I’m Aiden O’Neil and my partner is Lena Westley. We both decided to take on the Archery Club lessons because there was so much interest in it and so we wanted to keep it going.” Aiden explained. “Lena and I will be able to teach anyone the basics like the proper bow size for your frame, stringing the bow, setting the arrow, and shooting it. That’s about how much experience that we have, but we will do our best to help in any matter that you might need.” Aiden continued. “Mr. Xavier is our Advisor, so if anyone has any concerns, you are more than welcomed to speak with him.” He hoped people didn’t have issues, but it never hurt to let them know there was an adult that they could turn to if they needed.

“So before we get started today, we thought it was best to maybe go around and everyone just let us know what you are comfortable with or if you need any help. Some of our more experienced members might also be able to assist anyone. Maybe we can even suggest like a buddy system. One more experienced person partnered with a less experienced one.” Aiden offered, looking around to see how that was taken. He didn’t want any of the members to feel forced into anything. “But just let me know what you all feel comfortable doing.” He added.

OOC: Please let me know if any details about Lena are inaccurate and I'll see if we can get it edited.

The cool thing about archery was that it included two of her favorite things: sports and shooting stuff. Sammy had never, like, fired a gun or anything and actually had never even touched a bow until Sonora--it was taught in gym class, but not until junior high, which Sammy had never made it to since she had gotten all magic-y and cool--but she’d always been fond of squirt guns. Surprisingly, her older brother had never been huge on them, or if he had, it had been all used up in his several years of life before her birth and maturity into something other than a drooly blob. Him not enjoying it kinda just made it more fun for her, though.

Archery did count as a sport, though, because it was in the olympics and whatever, and that was good enough for Sammy to get started in the club. And that was a while ago now, so she was pretty decent at this point in her life. By no means professional, but definitely adequate. It was always pretty good to feel decent at something, second only to feeling actually skilled. The brunette had some diverse skills, so it was something she got to feel a lot, but only because she worked hard and was passionate. She’d watched her archery improve over the years, and admittedly, Sammy took a good deal of quiet pride in it. Progress was something that deserved pride.

“Howzit?” she smiled casually as she entered, directing as much of her attention to Aiden as she could until it was ripped away by the concessions ahead. From there she loitered at the snack table until he started addressing the group as a whole. The Pecari did her best to pay attention, but honestly, his speech was kinda boring. It was just basic “welcome to the club” yadda yadda, and Sammy wanted to shoot.

He asked for input at the end, though, so Sammy decided to chip in, hoping that would make things go faster. “I think a buddy system sounds pretty cool,” she said. “I remember getting help from older kids when I first joined, so that’d probably be helpful for this batch of newbies, too.” She flashed a quick smile at somebody she didn’t think she’d seen around the club in the past years before returning her main focus to Aiden and Lena. “I’m willing to be somebody’s buddy, if anybody wants me,” she grinned sheepishly.

Gabe enterred the room with a grin. Any excuse not to be doing homework on a Thursday night was fine by him, but a sports-related excuse was even better! Gabe had always meant to attend the Archery Club last year, but the Teppenpaw had always managed to somehow confuse the days. Now that he was a grown up second year, who not only knew they lay of the land  (mostly) at Sonora, but was helping Ben to plan a club of their own, things were different. The tubby New Yorker took note of the signs, and all the information they held. He didn't think starting up a Sports Club should be too hard, but it definitely helped to go to another club as an example, especially one as cool as Archery.

For most of his life - before being a wizard happened and his Zia Patrizia found out and started filling his summers with tutoring - Gabe had attended sports summer camp. Baseball was his favorite, of course, but the boy with the Mets cap on enjoyed pretty much any sport he could get his hands on. He didn't know much about archery, but he was excited to learn. Plus there were snacks here - awesome!

Gabe munched happily on a chocolate chip cookie as Aiden began to talk. He didn't know either of the club leaders at all, but he was always excited to make more friends! Everyone was so friendly in his own year, and the new first years seemed to be shaping up the same way, so he was sure these older students, would be too. Besides, they liked a sport, so they had to be fun!

Another older girl who Gabe didn't know offered to help younger students, and immediately his dark eyes lit up, "I'd like help!" he raised his hand as he announced so, though not enitrely sure why he did.

"Hi, I'm Gabe," he stepped forward and introduced himself in his usual cheery way, "I don't know anything about archery yet."
