Aladren first years! by Geoffrey Layne
At the last possible moment, Geoff realized he was going to have to be the one to take the first years from the Cascade Hall and to the common room. Though he harbored a number of serious doubts about how well he would come across to kids, he took comfort from the general smart ruliness of Aladrens and got to it as the school began to break back up into its usual sub-units."Aladren first years!" he called, then lowered the volume a little as a Crotalus' head whipped around in surprise. This was not a Pitch, which meant it operated by different rules than one. Since he wasn't sure how full a grasp all of them would have on the House system at this point, he also added a few words to his second call. "Any new student who turned blue to me!"
Once it looked like he had all of them - he'd done a quick count at the Sorting, just to see how well Aladren stacked up against the other three Houses this year - he gave them a smile he hoped was reassuring. "Hey, everyone. I'm Geoff Layne, the Head Boy. Welcome to Aladren House." He lowered his voice a bit. "Best of the four, if you ask me. Now, as Professor Taylor's occupied right now, I'll be showing you how to get to the common room and the dorms. Follow me."
