Drake was a creature of routine and after five years of teaching, he found himself in one. He taught his morning classes. He ate his lunch. He taught the rest of his classes. He ate dinner. He did most of his grading after dinner. In the colder months, he drank hot chocolate. In the warmer ones, he drank lemonade. Most of his time was spent in his office. And every September, he attended the Opening Feast, even if he really didn’t socialize much at it. It was really his own doing for not making more of an effort, but he found it hard to. He had never been what one would call a social person, even as a teenager. It was only through chance that he had been partnered with the girl that had become his late wife.
This year his established trend was being altered. Normally, after the Feast, he would retreat to his little corner of the world. However, since Marian left last year, not only did Sonora lose a brilliant Potions professor, but Pecari had lost its Head of House, which the responsibility had fallen to him. He didn’t mind in the least and it was actually one that he was taking on with a certain bit of pride. He had an odd sense of fondness for the Pecari students, because he felt that as a group in general, they were the ones that he had to worry about least. They might not get the best grades in the Defense Against the Dark Arts classes (that was usually the Aladrens), but they had a more important trait. Adaptability. One had to be able to adapt in any given situation just like he was doing now.
With the Feast wrapping up, it was time to do his first leading of the Pecari first years to their House. Excusing himself from the staff table, he went around to the front to begin gathering the students. Using his wand, he raised his voice above the volume, more than likely belonging mostly to the excited eleven year olds. “Pecari first years.” The first saying was to gather their attention. “Pecari first years, this way.” The second statement was to assemble them, which given that he tended to look like a menacing figure with his black robes and blood red hair, it didn’t take terribly long. Of course, there were the allowances given for them to finish all the little things that nervous and wound up eleven year olds did.
A quick head count confirmed that they were all there. It wouldn’t do to lose one on the first day of school. He lowered his voice back to normal pitch. “Welcome to Sonora. I’m your Head of House, Professor O’Leary.” He left off the rest of his professor duties for they would find out soon enough. Besides, he didn’t need to invoke fear in them quite yet, which even the title of his class seemed to do for some. “Follow me and do not stray. I’ll be taking you to your House.”
OOC: This post is continued in the Pecari Common room, however, you may continue posting in any threads at the feast. This post simply means that you may begin posting in places other than Cascade Hall.\r\n\r\n
