Kiva sat quietly through the Opening Feast. She looked more lively than she had at the end of the previous term, but was still slightly more subdued than usual. It might have been the fact that Kiva was always nervous during this because she had to sit beside the Headmaster and he was still just as intimidating to her at the age of 30 as he was when she was only 12.Not only that, but Kiva couldn't really say she was 'friends' with the other staff members. Sure she would always say that she got along rather well with Tarquin (when he was around) and even Simon, but the rest of the staff seemed to have their own little forms of cliques that Kiva had stayed away from when she was in school. She didn't want to have to deal with it as an adult as well. Eventually she'd get over it and force herself to actually have a conversation with the staff. It just wasn't meant to be this evening.
Glancing at the time, Kiva realized that it was starting to grow late. Standing up, Kiva made her way around the staff table and gently placed her wand to her throat. "Aladrens to me, please!" She spoke calmly, allowing the spell to raise her voice above the noise of the students. Last year Zack had beaten her to this and Kiva was more than willing to allow him the pleasure of leading them. But, for now, Kiva would take the reigns of her duties as Head of House once more.
Once the students had crowded around her, looking far smaller than she remembered eleven year olds being, Kiva spoke again, this time without the use of her wand. "Hello and welcome to Sonora. I'm your Head of House, Professor Kijewskit. Follow me, I'll be taking you to your commons now."
