Back where I started (tag: Headmaster Bulla) by Ty Blackmoore

OOC: For those who haven't read them, the events which this post refers to can be found at WtS. BIC:

Ty dragged her small bag of belongings behind her as she entered Cascade Hall. She didn’t have any of her school supplies, she didn’t have her school robes, she had hardly anything at all. But maybe… maybe this would all work out. It had to. There had been nowhere else to go really. She had no money, and she didn’t know what being Olivia Blackmoore would mean, if she decided to claim the position of the sole heiress to the Blackmoore… fortune? Estate? There had to be something to inherit. She just didn’t know if it was worth risking her life for.

She bit her lip, wondering if she remembered where the headmistress’s… no, headmaster now… office was. She had been there only once before, in her first year. She had arrived late to Sonora, and had been sorted there into Aladren. She almost smiled at the memory. She had been relatively happy here. At least here she couldn’t disappoint her family. Just at home. A home which was no longer hers.

“Tyranthia.”

She dropped her bag in alarm. An elderly, brisk wizard whom she recognised as her parents’ financial and legal advisor was approaching. Ty’s breath caught, panic sweeping through her. Not here, she had just gotten here. And although the bruises covering her body were fading, she didn’t feel as though she had the strength to make an escape. She swallowed hard and willed herself to look at him.

“What?”

He shuffled through the papers he was carrying and cleared his throat. “I have been asked by Benjamin and Faustine Boyd to meet you here. After much consideration, they will not be pressing charges in any way as your attempt to curse Faustine was unsuccessful-”

“What?!”

“-but considering the circumstances and your actions, they have no other option other than to renounce any responsibility toward you. However, they will allow you to use the surname of Boyd for however long you wish. They have no desire to put you in danger,” he explained. “Considering what you attempted to do to the woman who raised you, I would be grateful.”

Ty stared at him, her mouth half open in shock. She couldn’t believe what was happening. “Mr. Baker…she hexed me! Where do you… why do you think I left?!”

The wizard’s gaze softened, and his voice dropped slightly. “Tyranthia, I’ve known you since you were a baby, and I understand you’re going through some difficulties right now. And while I don’t necessarily believe every word Faustine said, that’s the way things stand right now. Now I’ve got some paperwork for you to sign here, making your emancipation official and agreeing that you will never pursue any inheritance that you may feel you’re entitled to.” He shot her a sympathetic glance. “Tyranthia, I’ve done some research of my own. And it would appear that according to the law, you have no legal guardian. If you need any advice, here’s my card.”

Signing her name on the last page, she handed the stack of papers back to him and took it blankly. “Wait… wait, I do.” If they had told him about her being in danger, he had to have taken an oath of secrecy. Therefore, it was safe… it had to be safe to ask. “Money… Mr. Baker, if I become a… a Blackmoore, do I have any?”

He nodded. “An extensive estate in Nevada and… well, a great deal of money. You would inherit all of it. But Tyranthia, make sure that you know what you are doing. The Reddenhursts have killed your entire family. It could happen to you.”

She stared at him. Finally, she extended her hand. “Pleasure doing business with you,” she said icily. And with that, she shouldered her bag and walked away.

Thankfully, she was spared the effort of finding the headmaster’s office when she spotted him from across the room. “Headmaster…” What was his name? Stephen had just said it the day before… “Bulla!” She hurried over, feeling extremely self-conscious of her appearance. She had tried to do something about it with make-up, but it didn’t really help, so she had left it off, hoping that the bruising would go away by the time she got here. It hadn’t.

“May I have a word with you?”

Headmaster Bulla

Welcome back by Headmaster Bulla

OOC: I am terribly sorry about the delay, Tyranthia. Utterly unforgivable of me, I know, but I hope you can find it in your heart to do so nonetheless. BIC:

At least with just three students needing to be sorted that could be taken care of quickly. Miss Brockert and Miss Mathers were given charge of their new housemates and Miss Kerova and Mr Dill were thanked for their attendence and allowed to get back to what he suspected they would have much preferred to be doing, settling back in and greeting their friends. Which really just left the decision about what to have for lunch. Well, that and the paperwork awaiting him back in his office, but avoiding that every once in a while was healthy. Despite effectively living in a desert Manfred was certain he was starting to get unhealthily pale from all the time he spent in his office.

He was examining the fare when he heard a slightly hesitant voice calling him.

Face was familiar. There'd been a note about something... ah, of course. The face fitted in and he recognised her. It was strange, the difference that three years could make at the age that these students all were. He didn't miss the fading bruises, frowning slightly as he noted them. That was starting to seem a bit of a pattern. Students returning with injuries. And what with the situation regarding Miss Liddowe, it put him in mind of contacting the child services department again. It disturbed him that from a school where he hadn't heard of anything of the like happening before, now there were students being kidnapped, and returning with bruises, and with violent or neglectful families. Something would have to be done, but it would have to be done with finesse.

"Tyranthia Boyd, there was an owl from your father saying that you might be returning here, and now I see that it was correct. A word is no trouble, but," he gestured at the table. "As you can see, luncheon is served. I was just about to partake a little myself. Would you like to join me? I confess I am a little in the dark about the decision for you to return to us, and how it will proceed. Of course, if you prefer, we can head back to my office..."

Nice to be back by Ty

OOC: Considering how long it took me to post this, I think I can manage it... the only excuse I have to offer is that I have a pretty clear memory of writing this, and apparently I never posted it, no matter what I remember. I've been doing that a lot lately. BIC:

“No sir, lunch would be just fine,” Ty mumbled nervously. She had thought, of course, about what she was going to say that wouldn’t incriminate her family the Boyds, but would be a satisfactory explanation for her sudden arrival and physical appearance. But Mr. Baker had changed all of that, and she now found herself confronted by a situation she was not entirely prepared for. She followed the headmaster to the table and sat down gingerly, setting her bag beside her.

Her father had sent an owl. Maybe… maybe he was still on her side, quietly on her side, despite it all. But she decided not to think about that right now. There would be plenty of time later. At the moment, she still had to figure out the best way to phrase her current circumstances, and what was safe to tell him. She cleared her throat, and determinedly stared at her empty plate, ignoring the serving platters filled with food. “Sir, I… you see, for a lot of reasons, I have become emancipated from my… my family. That is to say that I don’t really have a family anymore. You could say that they disowned me, but it’s not strictly true.” She paused, wondering how much to say.

“I was never really a Boyd. I realise how ridiculous this may sound, but about a week ago, we found out I had been switched at birth. And so Mother…” she hesitated, unsure what to call her mother at this point. Giving up, she continued. “Well, I’ve never been much good as a proper pureblooded young lady of society, have I? So she kicked me out, and I went and stayed with the Baxters for a bit. And now I’m here, because I’m not really sure where else to go.”

She was well aware of the gaping holes in her narrative, but at the moment, she had no idea how to fill them. Her hands nearly reached for Fi, but she caught herself just in time, and twisted them in her lap. God, she missed him so much.
