Hidden Agendas by Adam Whitney

Adam walked back with Nicoletta. At first, holding her hand as he would were she his actual girlfriend, but when they came closer to the exit of the labyrinth Gardens, Adam dropped her hand and dubbed a face of what he thought looked like annoyance. It would be sort of hard and awkward to pretend as though he didn't like spending time with Nicoletta. He didn't really understand why he had to pretend. Well, he understood mainly it was because his family wasn't in with the right crowd, but did that mean he had to act as though he didn't like her at all?

He didn't see the point in that. Nicoletta probably had to pretend he was a waste of her precious time, but Adam didn't see why he had to act like she was annoying to him.

Just her rules were.

"Showtime, Princess." Adam stated just before entering Cascade Hall. It was dinner time, so there was a fair few people in there, Adam wasn't even going to bother to figure out if any of Nicoletta's crew was there. Instead, he chose the nearest table, forcing a couple of students to shuffle down, and sat down, indicating for Nic to either sit next to him or across from him.

Once they were both settled, Adam pulled out a couple of his books, and flipped to the pages where their homework was located. After that, he filled his plate. He was a growing boy, he needed his nutrients. Course, now he got to see if Nic was stuffy and only picked at a salad, or a real woman and liked a bit of beef in her diet.

So many titles for what we do by Nicoletta

Nicoletta delighted in having Adam hold her hand, as though they were a couple. She was disappointed when he dropped it, but knew he had to. Just as he took on the appearance, she took on the air of superiority. Not hard to do, as this was the mask she donned every single day.

Following him, her delicate nose was turned slightly upwards mixed with an expression of boredom to say 'I have to be here, but I don't want to be.' At the table, she took the seat across from him for three reasons. The first two being that this would cause less suspicion and two would allow her to freely look at him.

After getting her food - a bit of everything. She still had strong French ties and the French could eat. At her grandparents' home, they would have a traditional meal, which consisted of hors d'oeuvre, followed by soup, the main course, salad, cheese, then dessert. Most would find salad after the course a bit odd, but Nicoletta found it to be rather refreshing.

Taking a bite of food, she slowly chewed it, then put down her fork. Manners were a must. While this was going on, she began the third reason, which was to tease him. She wasn't sure it would work or not, having never tried before, but she had been told it did. Long legs proving to be a definite advantage, as she slowly traced a small foot up his calve while maintaining a perfectly calm expression.

At the same time, she pointed to a random bit of the book, in order to keep up the facade, and asked, seemingly the most bizarre question under the circumstances, "What's your favorite color?"

And all of them fun by Adam

Adam went for the chicken and the pizza. They were his favorite type of foods and if he could have them everyday then he would. Though, he didn't eat them everyday cos that would do horrible things to his arteries and his mom would force him to bedrest for the rest of his life.

That was a huge 'No Thanks' in Adam's book.

He watched what Nicoletta chose carefully, seeing just what type of girl she really was. He was pleasantly surprised when she actually put a full meal on her plate and not something that he wouldn't even consider a snack.

Adam was taking a bite of his pizza when Nicoletta's foot made contact with his leg. The contact startled him into chocking slightly on his food. When he was finally able to get his food under control and was able to prevent himself from sending a 'what are you doing?!' sort of look to Nicoletta, Adam glanced around the hall for a moment as if embarrassed by having to sit with her.

"Green." Adam answered her, looking down at the book. "I bet yours is pink."

I won't argue by Nicoletta

When Adam nearly choked on her food, Nicoletta had a hard time keeping her expression from showing amusement. Noticing his glance around the hall, she merely raised her right eyebrow in response. It was ironic that she was the one who had to be worried about being seen with him, yet he was the one that was jumpy. Though, she thought they were doing a good job with their act of tutoring, glancing every so often at the book.

So, he liked green? She couldn't say she was surprised. He seemed like the type of guy to like green. It was a rather earthy color and he was down to earth. Unfortunately, for him, he guessed wrong.

"You shouldn't bet," she said mildly. "It's blue."

She loved blue, because it was so versatile. It matched anything and everything. Not to mention that all the shades of blue looked good on her. Plus, it was such a calming color in a stressful world.

But I like it when you argue by Adam

Adam had to hold a smile back at her quip. "Really? I thought all you girls loved the color pink. Something about it being feminine and cute...or something." Adam said vaguely. "But I'm sure blue looks just as good on you as any other color."

Adam glanced down at the book again to keep up the show and pointed something out, as though he were asking her a question about a topic in the book. "Okay, so that's color we can cross out. What do girls like you do for fun?" Adam asked. He always figured that the Dream Team did nothing but pain their nails and make sure every piece of hair was in perfect place.

Of course, all of that was before he actual spoke to Nicoletta and discovered that she had some personality in her. Perhaps he was wrong about the rest?

Probably not though.

But there was nothing to argue with by Nicoletta

Nicoletta glanced around before risking a half grin, "Hardly. We're not all so one-dimensional. And it's not true I look good in every color. I look rather horrid in browns, but I wouldn't wear them anyway. They remind me of mud."

When Adam pointed at something in the book, she went to turn the book slightly, grazing his fingers in the process, and leaned down a bit, as though to get a better look. "Politics," said simply enough, but it meant so much more. "From the moment we are born, we learn how to uphold the family reputation. We learn to make friends with those that can move us ahead in society and we learn to push down those that stand in our way. So, that is what we do."

She didn't look at him after saying it for it was rather blunt about the cruelty of it all, but he had asked what she did with her friends and there it was. Would he regret being around her now?

I still like you fiesty by Adam

Adam had to fight the urge to laugh and failed at it. Instead he had to change the chuckles into what he hoped sounded more like a cough. It took him a moment before he could finally speak properly. "Man, you are such a girl." Adam said with amusement. "I can almost gaurantee that if you were wearing a brown, no guy will sit there and think 'what a horrible color on her.' No, we don't look at the colors, we look at everything else."

He had to try and not look pleased by the contact of her fingers. But her answer to his question forced a frown in Adam. "What the hell kind of friendship is that?" Adam questioned. He knew that purebloods like to associate themselves with families that would make them look better, but to have their children do the same, only for politics, seemed farfetched.

"Friends are supposed to be the people you tell your secrets to, have a good laugh with, to invite over and hang out with." Adam said, disbelief in his voice because that was all Nicoletta saw her friends as a way to improve her family name. "They should be the first person you go to when you have a problem, and they should be the ones who support you when the worlds turned against you."

Adam was frowning at Nicoletta. Maybe being who he was, wasn't so terrible afterall. Sure it meant that, in the end, Nicoletta and him would have to go their separate ways, but at least he knew who he could trust, who he could rely on for anything. Nicoletta's point of viw on things seemed...lonely. "The way you make it sound, it's like you really don't have any friends at all."

I can be fiesty without arguing :P by Nicoletta

Nicoletta shifted uncomfortably under Adam's gaze. She had heard of other people, the way their friendships were. It was something she wished for, but couldn't have. Chris was the only person from her world that she could trust. She never talked to him while they were at school since they moved in their own circles.

"I don't have any," she told him softly. Then, with a touch of bitterness, "Sharing secrets provides ammo, which will be used. We do go over each other's houses, but it is more of a show, proving whose is better, more elaborate, better designed. Everything that we do is for the goal of being the best and with being the best means having power."

She wasn't sure how much more she should tell him, but decided he might as well know if he were going to continue being around her, "When we are younger, we begin training. We are trained on the proper etiquette at a table. We are trained on how to conduct ourselves, how to hold a conversation, and how to captivate." She took in a small breath of air that could almost be deemed a snort. "I was taught how to wear makeup and how to dress from the time I was five years old. I was holding conversations with adults by the time I was seven."

She stopped. She had to stop. She couldn't get upset, not here, not now. She hated her life.
