Greeting the Transfer students... (Attn: prefects) by Headmaster Bulla

The day before midterm officially ended and classes were set to recommence dawned bright and clear. The weather spells were already starting to return to the usual patterns, with the snow outside already turning to slush. The sounds of the returning students echoed through the halls.

Manfred had sent letters to the house prefects as soon as it had become apparent that a new sorting would be happening. There was no real way of telling which house the new students would be sorted into, so to have all four present would at least mean that there would be someone there to help introduce the new students and show them around - including how to get to their new commons.

With several small goblets at hand, Manfred examined the students who were joining his school. It didn't happen every year that even one student changed schools, but there must have been something in the air this year as it seemed that several were making the switch. He'd already had a quick word with the prefects, thanking them for coming so promptly - he doubted that those who had returned home for the break had had time to do more than put their trunks away - which left him with the new students.

"Welcome to Sonora Academy," he greeted them, tone formal but not unkind. "I hope you will each be happy in your new school, houses and amongst your new schoolmates. I've asked that the prefects from our houses be present to help you all settle in. They are," he indicated each of the four as he introduced them, "Zack Dill from Aladren, Chrysanthemum Mathers from Crotalus, Mia Kerova from Pecari and Kaylie Brockhert from Teppenpaw. I'm sure you're all eager to discover which house it is you'll be making your new home, so if you'd all like to take a drink, we can begin the sorting."

He passed the goblets out making sure that each of them had one. When they drank the potion that was in the goblets, each would turn the dominant colour of their house - blue for Aladren, red for Crotalus, brown for Pecari and yellow for Teppenpaw. The effect was temporary, although that didn't stop it from disconcerting many of those who found themselves drastically different colours for those few minutes. Still, it made it very easy to work out where each would go, and would make it easy for the Prefects to know who they were collecting.\n\n

Scared Transfer Student... by Camren Christianson

Camren walked into Cascade Hall slowly. Her top teeth were clentched on her bottom lip as she let the air enter and escape through her nose. Camren was starting all over again in a new school, and she was just as scared as she was when she started in September. At her old school she had made a few friends at least, but here, she had nobody... At least not yet...

Camren looked around at the others littering the room, and then switched down to her feet. They at least, were familiar... Camren's right hand moved up to her neck and she clutched the locket that Caden and her cousin Kasey had given her before she left for Sonora that morning. It had a picture of each of them in it. One picture was on either side, and it was then standing there in Cascade Hall that she opened it for the first time. Her sister and cousin's faces looked back at her, and Camren allowed a small tear to emerge from her left eye. Camren swallowed her saliva, and returned her clamped teeth to her bottom lip as the Headmaster looked around at the students. Camren listened nervously as he spoke.

"Welcome to Sonora Academy... I'm sure you're all eager to discover which house it is you'll be making your new home, so if you'd all like to take a drink, we can begin the sorting."

Camren looked around as the Head introduced the prefects and then passed out goblets. All she needed to do was drink something? Camren took one and held tight to it. She was all of a sudden very anxious...

She knew all that she had to do was drink from the goblet, but she was still scared... She put the goblet to her mouth and whatever was inside turned her yellow as her lip hit it. 'What did this mean?' she wondered... Camren wanted to crawl into a hole and die... Here she was, new at school, and whatever had been in the goblet had turned her YELLOW! Camren wished she was back at Aunt Cathleen's house instead of here...

Well, that's me too... by Beth Fisher

Beth took a deep breath before opening the doors to the Cascade Hall. He was new, entirely new, for the second time in the same year. It was a bit daunting. Given her druthers, Beth probably would have stayed back at her old school, forever blending into the scenery. But this change was for the best, she told herself. In truth, Beth didn't want to go in at all. A moment passed by, and Beth walked in, so nervous she was almost shaking.

"Don't be scared, Beth, you'll be fine," her mother had assured her while looking semi-worried herself. In truth, Beth's mother didn't know anything about magic, being what everyone seemed to be calling a "muggle". It was easy to see her mother's discomfort with sending her daughter to yet another private, secretly located magic school. Her father had offered her more secure advice, insisting that her quiet demeanor would win her interest and consequently, friendship. Beth wasn't sure about either of those happening.

So it was with great apprehension that Beth finally took a sip from the goblet handed to her by the Headmaster, who seemed to be kind. Beth blushed naturally a very dark tone, but she gasped when she noticed a deep crimson color creeping down her hands, slowly converting her from a human to a human-sized red plum. Beth was unsure of what to do with herself, so she immediately looked up from her deep red hands and said the first word that came to mind.

"Red?"

You're with me by Chrissy Mathers

Chrissy had been rather surprised to have received an owl during Midterm from her Headmaster. At first, her mother had shrieked thinking that Chrissy had her Prefect status taken away from her. The only good thing that her mother could find in her daughter was the fact that she got to wear a badge everyday.

But it ended up that the Headmaster wanted her present for when some transfer students came after Midterm.

Now, standing infront of the newbie students, Chrissy felt rather awkward knowing that one of them may be leaning on her for support. She didn't like that idea of someone having to depend on her as she had never been very dependable. Or, that's how she always thought of herself. She also didn't think she was all that nice of a person considering how little she cared about others that didn't directly affect her. How she got this badge is still a mystery to her, but she decided not to make a big deal out of it anymore.

She watched as the transfer took sips form the goblet (Chrissy wondered where and how that potion was made...) and waiting patiently for any of them to turn the lovely shade of red she had turned back in her first year. It didn't take long for Chrissy to find the one she would have to drag around for the next few days.

Walking up to the first year, Chrissy tried smiling in a friendly manner (hopefully it worked, most people assumed Chrissy to be rather friendly in natural). "Don't worry, it fades rather quickly." Chrissy told the girl. "I'm Chrissy and by that color, you're a Crotali. Welcome to Sonora."

Kaylie Brockert

Carrying out my prefect duties. by Kaylie Brockert

Kaylie was a bit nervous about the new transfers. She had a feeling that if any of them were in Teppenpaw she'd have to teach them the dance. It was one thing for her to get to the point where she could do it without any trouble, but to have teach it. Kaylie gave a small involuntary shudder at the thought.

She listened to the Headmaster's speech while looking curiously over at the new first years. She wondered if any of them would turn yellow. Lo and behold, one did, which was Kaylie's cue.

Heading over to the first year, Kaylie gave a friendly smile to the younger girl, "Hi there, I'm Kaylie Brockert. I'm the Teppenpaw prefect."

Kaylie looked at the new girl sympathetically. She seemed scared. As prefect, it was Kaylie's duty to make sure that she felt comfortable and got situated. Besides, she felt bad for her. It must be hard for her to be in a new place.

"Everything will be fine," she assured her. Giving another bubbly smile, she continued, "We should get you situated and the first thing is to show you the common room."

Lowering her voice, she placed a finger to her lips to indicate a secret, "To get into the Common room, we have to do a jig." Kaylie didn't let the new girl see her apprehension over teaching it. That might just make her more anxious.

"Let's go," she said with a small wave to Camren, indicating to follow her to the Common room. On the way there, she said, "If you have any other questions, feel free to ask."
