I feel sick... by Hyana Kamiya

Hyana woke up that morning in the Aladren commons, feeling very sick. Her stomach was twisting. She had packed for midterm the night before, and had time to eat breakfast before leaving. So she put her hair up in the traditional Japanese bun, to try and please her mother, and headed down to the Cascade hall.

She sat at a table, and pulled out her notebook. She felt like she should try and sketch something before she left, something that would remind her over midterm that Sonora was real. That she would be going back. She decided on one of the waterfall type things in the hall, and started sketching. Her breakfast stayed untouched in front of her. She didn't feel like eating. She'd just throw it back up later.

She stayed that way for a while, forgetting about midterm. Forgetting that she was heading back to the hellhole her mother called her house. That uneasy feeling stayed in her gut. Hyana was so focused on forgetting everything at that moment, she didn't notice the person that sat down next to her.\n\n

Awww by Lucas Smythe

Lucas wasn't really the type to randomly talk to people he didn't know, but it was quite obvious to him that the girl he recognised from his own house was not feeling so great.

Pushing his fringe from his face, he wandered uneasily over and - more by accident than on purpose - sat down next to the girl. Sh didn't seem to notice him at all, she was sketching.

Feeling that it was rude to look at somebody else's drawing, Lucas gazed up toward the ceiling before clearing his throat, hoping to catch the girl's attention. He looked back at her, keeping his eyes averted from her notebook, just in case, and once again pushed his fringe back from his eye, offering a sincere smile.

"Um hi... Sorry for intruding, but... well... are you okay?" Lucas stumbled over his words, not entirely sure what to say. He hoped that would do, and that the girl wouldn't think he was weird. \n\n

That I don't feel good or that I'm just so unbearably cute by Hyana

Hyana looked up from her notebook when she heard an unfamiliar voice. "Um hi... Sorry for intruding, but... well... are you okay?" The boy asked. Hyana hadn't realized that she looked so miserable. She sort of wished that Josiah, Mika, Talitha or even Caedence had found her so she could talk about going home, but at least she wasn't alone.

"I'm f-fine..." She stuttered. "You're from m-my house, aren't you?" She placed her notebook on the table, and because she was just not all there, spilled her cup of water all over the boy. It took her a few seconds to comprehend what happened.

"I'm so sorry!" She finally squeaked, handing the boy a napkin. He probably never wanted to talk to her again now. And who could blame him? "I'm Hyana Kamiya..." She finally forced out, staring at her lap. She was to upset and scared to look anyone in the eye...how she wished she could stay at Sonora.\n\n

I was referring to the upset-ness, but either will do by Lucas

Lucas smiled as the girl looked up, stammering that she was fine. Lucas wasn't entirely sure that he believed her.

"You're from m-my house, aren't you?" she asked him, putting her notebook down. Lucas was about to reply that yes, he indeed was in Aladren like she was, but couldn't manage to get the words out due to suddenly being covered in reasonably cold water. He refrained from squeaking or reacting in any way other than jumping slightly, afraid that would make the girl feel worse than she already appeared to.

She handed him a napkin from the table, apologising for his unorthodox (and rather unwelcome) shower. She was staring at her lap, making Lucas feel that he should say or do something to try to comfort her, even though he didn't know her at all - it just seemed polite, really.

"I'm Hyana Kamiya..." She told him, not looking up. He stopped drying himself and took the time to look at her, wondering what could have gotten somebody so worked up - he'd seen her around the common room, she wasn't usually like this, he was sure.

He pushed his fringe from his eye and tilted his head slightly to the side, having to push his fringe back again. 'Well that was dumb.' he inwardly told himself, rolling his eyes.

"I'm Lucas Smythe." He finally replied, placing the damp napkin back on the table in front of him. He smiled in case she looked up again and decided to elaborate. "And yeah, I am in Aladren... I've seen you around the common room sometimes, it just seemed rude not to see if you were okay and that..." He trailed off, realising that he didn't really have a lot to say. Then he remembered - "Oh!" He exclaimed, "and don't worry about the water, it was kinda refreshing." He told her with a smirk. A complete lie, but at least she wouldn't feel bad about it anymore.\n\n

Aww, but she's pretty! by Josiah

OOC: Hope three isn't, in this case, a crowd. Dont wanna crowd, just let me know and I'll have him walk away

IC: Josiah hadn't packed the night before, so he found himself packing everything haphazzardly into his trunk. He left his wand stand on his bedside table. He also left most of his clothes in his dorm room. Custard was also safely in his pocket, purring happily, for inside the pocket as well was Teppers, happy to be reunited with his owner and friend. It felt like his pocket would get a hole in it from the friction. So, carrying Mortemer in his wicker cage, he walked into the commons. The raven squaked at the indignanty at being locked up.

"I'll let you out when we get home Mo. I'm sorry, but I know you won't stay on my shoulder. You like flying too much." He laughed and smiled at his raven. Mo turned an angry eye at him and cawed again as if to say 'Let me out now!' He waggled a finger at the bird, "Nuh-uhn!" he said happy at his bird's frustration.

It was then he saw a boy with Hyana. Hyana looked upset. What had that boy said to her? He tried to not approach the situation with a closed mind. After all, he was wrong about that girl she talked to in the Club.

"Hey, what the heck is wrong with my g- friend?" He blushed for two reasons. One, he almost said 'my girl'. Two, he sounded angry. He didn't want to do that. "I-I mean, what's wrong Hyana?" he said more gently, "I'm Josiah Ashwood, by the way," he added in a form of introduction. He put Mortemer on the ground by his feet and sat opposite the two of them.\n\n

*blushes* Hullo there... by Hyana

"I'm Lucas Smythe." The boy said to her, not sounding angry at all. Hyana was sure that if someone gave her an unwanted shower she'd be upset. But he was different. Like so many people she was meeting at this school. She glanced at him, and saw that he was smiling. "And yeah, I am in Aladren... I've seen you around the common room sometimes, it just seemed rude not to see if you were okay and that..." He continued. Hyana looked back at the table. She didn't know that she looked upset...

"Oh!" He exclaimed. Hyana looked up at him, wondering why he would be so happy being all wet. He continued, "and don't worry about the water, it was kinda refreshing." She shifted around uncomfortably in her seat.

"You sure?" She whispered. "That was real nice of you...coming to see if I was okay." She wanted to say more, but Josiah popped up out of nowhere. A familiar...and somewhat angry...face!

"Hey, what the heck is wrong with my g- friend?" Josiah asked, quickly followed by a blush. Hyana felt the heat rush to her face. What was g-? Was he about to say girlfriend? That couldn't be right! He still sounded angry anyway. Did he think that Lucas hurt her? "I-I mean, what's wrong Hyana?" He asked again, a little more gently this time. He introduced himself to Lucas and sat across from them.

"W-wrong?" She stuttered in a squeak. "N-n-nothing's wrong!" She waved her hands in front of her. "I just don't want to leave...that's all." She noticed her voice sounding more and more sad. She had to listen to their plans for midterm. She needed to think of something besides her mother...

"So, what are the two of you planning over break?" She asked quickly, hoping beyond hope that she wouldn't start crying, like she felt like doing. She didn't need that right now.\n\n

Nyaaww, an admirer! =P by Lucas

Lucas, when asked if he was sure about not being angry with Hyana, was going to say that everything really was fine, and probably start a conversation with the girl about something or other - but they were interrupted by a rather angry-looking boy.

Hey, what the heck is wrong with my g- friend?" He enquired a little more vigerously than seemed normal - was he insinuating that Lucas had upset her? That just wasn't cool. He asked again in a more calm way what was wrong with Hyana, before introing himself as Josiah, but her answer made Lucas lose interest in the angry boy.

Lucas was sure it wasn't his imagination, but that Hyana was sounding and looking more sad by the end of her sentence than she did when she started it - He kind of wished he knew her better so he could talk to her better and offer friendly comfort, but no.

"So, what are the two of you planning over break?" She directed the question toward both Lucas and Josiah, possibly an attempt to get her mind off of whatever it was on. Lucas grinned.

"Going home to see my sister, she's real sweet. I'll probably play a bit of quidditch with my cousin or something too, I'm not so sure. Just... stuff." Lucas told the two casually and vaguely, before turning his gaze toward Josiah. "And you?" he added with a half-smile - he wasn't completely sure of this guy.\n\n

A common intrest perhaps? by Josiah

Josiah frowned. What was wrong with Hyana? She looked like she was about to burst into tears. He gave the other boy, Lucas it seemed was his name, a look that said 'Wish I understood what was wrong eh?' He almost jumped over the table to give her a hug. Too bad that most girls don't like that sort of thing. Some wierd thing that they called 'cooties'. Maybe that was a magical beast that came off of men? He looked at his robe sleeves. Nope, he didn't see anything. He shrugged, not knowing what 'cooties' were and, for the moment, didn't give a hoot.

"Going home to see my sister, she's real sweet. I'll probably play a bit of quidditch with my cousin or something too, I'm not so sure. Just... stuff. And you?"

"Well, mother always has the family, or whomever will come, over. She has Chipper make a big dinner. We're going to eat, sing carols, open presents, and maybe, just maybe," Here his eyes had a mischevious glint to them, "I can talk to Joy!"

He paused, realising that this might sound odd, "She's my cousin. Mother and the rest think she's not part of the family 'cause her mom married a muggle. I'm not allowed to speak to her, but she lives a state over and I might be able to sneak a visit with Auntie Joan and Uncle Fred and Joy. I sure hope so! But I definently will try and help Chipper with the dinner."

He grabbed a piece of toast, buttered it, and nibbled on it. He was rather nervous. Think of all the owls flying around! He surpressed a shudder. Besides, should his mother find out about him meeting with his ostrasized family, they'd be so so furious! He didn't want to think of that; it made it hard to swallow. He just looked from Lucas to Hyana, waiting for one to make conversation. "I-I can leave if you'd like," he muttered, realising that he might have interupted something.\n\n

Are you two making fun of me? by Hyana

"You get to see your sister Lucas? How nice! I wish I could see my sister..." Hyana stared at her lap, letting Josiah speak. Another year without her father, another year without her sister, Sayuri. Another year of pure torture. Wait, she was supposed to be happy. Happy happy joy joy! She was coming back to Sonora, after all. She started paying attention again when Josiah mentioned a girl, Joy. Josiah started looking uncomfortable about what he had said and explained that Joy was his cousin.

"Really, you're cousin? And you're not allowed to speak to her? How awful Josiah. Just because her mother married a muggle." A sudden thought struck her. "You shouldn't tell your mother that you're my friend then...because I'm a muggleborn." She looked at Lucas, trying to think of something to say. "Thanks for coming over to talk to me Lucas. I really do appreciate it..." She finally said, before Josiah offered to leave.

"N-no!" She said, sounding upset for a moment. "I mean...well...we won't get to talk during midterm...at least I won't...I wanna stay at Sonora!" She exclaimed. "I don't want to go home!" She took a few deep breaths, forcing herself to calm down. "It's not like I can do anything about it now, right guys?"\n\n

Not at all *bows* by Lucas

Lucas listened to Josiah speak - he was quite well-spoken, and perhaps being a little bit of a show-off too. Lucas didn't really want to pass judgement, he might be completely wrong about the boy, but he just seemed a little bit off.

Hyana seemed quite surprised at Josiah's little story about his cousin and said that perhaps Josiah shouldn't tell his mother that he's friends with a muggleborn. Lucas wasn't entirely sure if she was fully serious or making a joke, but he smirked anyway - it just seemed amusing to him. Hyana then looked toward Lucas as he brushed his fringe from his eye again.

"Thanks for coming over to talk to me Lucas. I really do appreciate it..." She said to him. He smiled, Hyana seemed really nice, and he would have replied to her had Josiah not interrupted - unintentionally, Lucas assumed - by offering to leave.

"N-no! I mean...well...we won't get to talk during midterm...at least I won't...I wanna stay at Sonora! I don't want to go home!" Hyana exclaimed, taking Lucas by surprise. She looked like she could burst into tears any second, Lucas thought. She took a few deep breaths before continuing in a less hysterical way. "It's not like I can do anything about it now, right guys?"

Lucas raised his brow at that - What could be so awful at home to make her feel this way? For the second time in the past few minutes that they had been chatting, Lucas wished he knew Hyana better so that he could say or do something to calm her down.

"You'll be okay, Hyana." He offered, knowing that she had probably heard that a thousand times or more, but it was all he could really say. However, before he could stop himself, he found that his mouth carried on regardless of his brain telling him to stop. "I mean, well, maybe you won't but I hope you will be." He mumbled with a blush; It was a little bit harsh telling her that maybe she wouldn't be alright. "Errr..." He trailed off, offering a big grin instead. "Nah, I'm sure you'll be just fine, and you'll come back here after midterm feeling great, right?"

He pushed his fringe back and stopped grinning, instead opting for an encouraging smile. He hoped his daftness had at least cheered her up a little, even if his words hadn't.

Lucas then glanced at Josiah through the corner of his eye, deciding he didn't really like this boy - good job he missed the first charms club meet after all. 'Go ahead,' he thought to himself, 'cheer up your girl.'\n\n

Never! *grins* by Josiah

Josiah was begining to feel very uncomfortable. Lucas, on the one hand, while not being impolite or mean, didn't seem to enjoy his company. On the other, Hyana was about to cry every three seconds. What had he done? What did he say? Was he that bad with words?

"I...uh...Lucas is right. You'll be fine, and you can come back here afterwards." He mumbled stupidly. Females! You never know how they'd react to what you say. He shook his head. He felt Lucas's gaze on him. The guy wasn't looking very nice. Almost resentful. Had he interupted something? Maybe it was him being really rude?

He decided to apologize, just in case, "Sorry I came up all angry like that..." He said quietly, "I just saw Hyana upset, she's a good friend and I just...get overprotective."

OOC: This isn't trying to be all-knowing Lucas, if it comes off as I can read your thoughts. Josiah's personality is to be apologetic. Like he thinks that he offended and usually he really did, but he apologizes, offence or no. \n\n

But we could if you wanted us to =D by Lucas

Lucas trained his eyes away from Josiah as the boy stumbled over his encouragment toward Hyana - from shouting to practically stammering, Lucas wondered whether he had actually had some kind of negative effect on this guy.

He once again moved his gaze to look at Josiah. 'Yeah...' Lucas thought to himself, 'he doesn't look entirely comfortable right now, maybe I'm glaring a little too hard.' He hadn't meant to make Josiah feel uncomfortable - or at least he hadn't consciously thought to - though it appeared that maybe he was.

Lucas' suspicions were confirmed, however, when Josiah muttered out an apology about his angry behaviour at the start. "I just saw Hyana upset, she's a good friend and I just... get overprotective."

Lucas was almost certain that this admittance were supposed to make him less hostile towad Josiah, but instead he felt his eyes narrowing just a little more, and a thought wound its way through his mind : 'If she's so important to him, why can't he even think of anything to say to comfort her?'

Lucas pushed his fringe from his eye once more and shrugged. "No worries Josiah." He refrained from spitting, and managed to speak like a normal person. "I understand the want to protect your friends."

Lucas spoke what he thought could be considered as a lie - he didn't really have any friends of his own, the only person that he had ever really felt the want and need to protect was his sister Dana.

And thinking of Dana... "Anyway. I've gotta go, I get the feeling we'll be leaving soonish for the break." He glanced at Hyana. "You'll be okay Hyana." He smiled at the girl and raised his hand in a 'thumbs-up' position, changing his smile to a goofy grin.

For once, maybe Dana wasn't the only person that received his concern - he really was worried for Hyana and hoped she'd be okay.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Thanks for the offer, but I'm good by Hyana

Hyana looked back and forth from Lucas and Josiah, who both seemed to be in a world of their own. Lucas tried to make her feel better, he tried to encourage her, but he messed it up at the end. And Josiah obviously didn't notice, because he said that Lucas was right. Hyana forced a smile on her face. At least they were trying.

"Arigato guys." She whispered before Josiah gave an apology to Lucas for yelling at him. She found herself blushing again. He got...overprotective? Why overprotective? Why not just protective? Lucas seemed to accept Josiah's apology and gave Hyana a thumbs up with a goofy grin.

"Arigato Lucas. I hope you have fun over midterm!" Hyana called as the boy left. She turned to Josiah. "Josiah...thanks for being worried about me. I c-consider you a good friend too!" She forced out. It didn't seem that hard, but it was. "So...you're going to see your family over midterm? Sounds like fun. Who's coming?" She asked. Maybe if she knew more about Josiah she wouldn't make him so mad, and he wouldn't tell his mother that she was a muggleborn. That just wouldn't go over well.\n\n
