Looking for Yae ((tag: Jaeven, others welcome)) by Mika

Mika entered the main Hall feeling rather disheartened. His quest to play quiddich wasn't going well. He was hungry too, lunch had been particularly non kosher today. He wanted to go to shul but he didn't think that was allowed, and he hurt. So it was an all around good day. His sloyka, obese thing that it was, rested comfortably in his lap as he settled at a table. It was purring, trying to comfort its owner, he seemed tense.

Mika was hoping to find Yae. Not that he particularly thought Yae would understand his troubles, and maybe, actually for precisely that reason. Yae didn't seem to... grasp the larger implications of things. He thought everything was 'madcool', he seemed incapable of being at all judgmental. In some ways, Mika reflect, Yae was the reason for the phrase 'ignorance was bliss'.

He really wanted that right now, that totally genuine friendliness that was Yae. Even if it came with a lot of unsolicited and rather undignified hugs. Besides, he had a present for Yae. Now if only he could find the boy. Mika's eyes scanned the hall hoping to catch sight of those familiar dreadlocks.\n\n

Looking low by Lucas

Lucas had wandered into the Cascade Hall in hope of finding somebody to talk to. Anybody, really. He was living in a dorm with a bunch of boys he barely knew because none of really spoke in the common room, and he hadn't yet had a chance to work with any of them in classes. It was a little disappointing to say the least.

While lingering a little inside the door, Lucas spotted Mika, one of the other first year Aladren boys who was supposedly his room 'mate' - Lucas couldn't really say they were too 'matey' just yet.

Mika was on his own and, Lucas noticed, not looking completely cheerful. He meandered his way over toward him, hoping he wasn't intruding on Mika's "me time". He set a smile on his face as he approached, pushing his ever-annoying blonde-tipped fringe from his green eyes.

"Hey Mika." Lucas smiled in a friendly fashion, not wishing to pull up a chair in case he wasn't wanted there - Lucas still felt that maybe he and Mika had gotten off on the wrong foot. "Do you... mind me sitting here?" He asked, gesturing toward the adjacent chair. If Lucas was honest, he was a little bugged by the fact that Mika seemed a little low, even if he didn't know him very well yet, it just wasn't right that somebody should be upset. It never was, in Lucas' opinion.

Lucas smiled again at Mika. "I will go if you want me to," He added with an honest grin, "just say the word."\n\n

We Need a Cheering Charm by Mika

Mika actually did a double take. He had glanced up when he felt Lucas standing near by, but seeing who it was, when Lucas spoke, Mika actually looked behind himself, to see who Lucas was talking to, assuming it wasn't himself. When there was no one behind him, he had turned back to Lucas again. They had indeed gotten off on the wrong foot a bit, and the general quiet that was both their shared room and the Aladren common room, hadn't encouraged any more familiarity. Mika actually suspected the quiet mood of their dorm might be partially his fault. He was just quiet by nature, and people often assumed he expected them to be as well.

"Um, hello Lucas, please, have a seat." Mika motioned to the open seat besides him. Now what did he say? Mika wasn't real great at the small talk. "How are you?" that seemed like a good question, or at least a good place to start.\n\n

Well, I'm not exactly a <i>charm</i>, per se.... by Jaeven 'Jae' Dimitri

Jae bounced into Cascade Hall. He had just been with Todd and Jenny, exploring the Labyrinth Gardens. They had seen another potatoman, like in the DADA lesson with Caedence, but it had squealed and run away from Jenny. Jae hadn’t been able to catch her quickly enough, and so had spent more than twenty minutes running, crawling, and squirming after her, all the while yelling for her to stop and wait up. Once Jae had caught his cat, he gave her a very stern lecture about being nice to other animals. Jenny had squirmed and mewed at him until he put her down. After that, Jae had decided it was time to eat and put Jenny and Todd in their bag so they could all go to Cascade Hall together. Jenny was already too big to fit into the pocket of even Jae’s biggest cargo pants, and Todd was lonely alone.

Although Jae had managed to get his robes on properly before coming to Cascade Hall, having been told off once already for not having them, that did not change the fact that he was far from neat. His once-tan cargo pants had picked up dirt streaks on the knees and hems from chasing after Jenny, his “I Break For Butterflies” t-shirt streaked with dirt as well, and there were several small sticks stuck in a few of his more wayward dreadlocks. His robes were neat merely because he had taken them off before chasing after his cat.

Looking around for a familiar face, Jae spotted Mika! He hadn’t seen the other first year for quite awhile, and was very excited to tell him the news about midterm. Enthusiastically, Jae skipped over to Mika and hugged him.

“Hi Mika! I haven’t seen you since forever! Did you go to Dayda? I didn’t see you. My partner and me found a potatoman. She called him something, but I don’t remember. She was bossy, like Nina. Oooh! Oooh!” Jae released Mika and jumped up and down a few times. “Have you met Jenny? My aunts sent my kitty for my birthday! She’s really nice and gets on with Todd good. They really like each other."

At that point, Jae realised that there was another boy standing there. "Hi! Who're you? I'm Jae, 'cept Mika calls me Yae. I'm in Pecari, with Saul and Irene and Caedence, 'cept Caedence is scary sometimes. Are you in Mika's house? Do you share a room?"

Stopping briefly to breathe, Jae reached into his bag and pulled Jenny out, holding her up so Mika could see. The cat was shorthaired and a deep, almost blue, grey. She looked at Mika with an expression that clearly said see what I put up with?

But cheery for sure! by Lucas

Mika had seemed to be a little disbelieving that Lucas was talking to him, seeming that he too had thought they hadn't started off too well. Still, Mika was polite and asked Lucas to sit down, which he would have done if he had felt a little more relaxed, instead opting to lean somewhat against the chair instead.

"How are you?" Mika had asked him, possibly more out of necessity so as an awkward silence didn't fall upon them than out of actual interest. Still, Lucas didn't mind - he probably would have done the same had he the chance.

"I-" he began to answer, but was cut off (more by surprise than anything) when another boy came skipping over and hugged Mika, before talking very enthusiastically about defense against the dark arts... and a cat. Apparently called Jenny.

Lucas raised his brow a little at the boy's manner, and the fact that he had interrupted a little, but Lucas didn't really mind this time, and the boy seemed nice - perhaps a little hyperactive, but nice nonetheless.

It was then that the boy seemed to notice Lucas lingering quietly near and shot a string of excited words his way too.

"Hi! Who're you? I'm Jae, 'cept Mika calls me Yae. I'm in Pecari, with Saul and Irene and Caedence, 'cept Caedence is scary sometimes. Are you in Mika's house? Do you share a room?"

Lucas blinked twice: once as he was trying to take in the rush of information, and again when Jae pulled a real cat from his bag. It was almost unbelievable the things that students carried on them, Lucas supposed that a cat was probably one of the more normal things, really. He pushed his fringe back from his eye and took a deep breath in and out before answering Jae.

"Hey Jae, I'm Lucas - in Aladren, so I do share a room with Mika, yeah. And... I... don't know Cadence or any Pecaris, really." Lucas replied, hoping he had covered everything, though his eyes were on the cat, and thought to add a comment about her, too. "Um, nice cat." He managed through a light blush, offering a big grin to hide it. \n\n

And More Hugs by Mika

((ooc: sorry for being slow, folks, bic:))

Mika was very glad he was in his wheelchair when Yae blind-sided him with a hug. They needed to work on that. Mika wasn't used to the hugging, but that was tolerable. If Yae ever did that to him when he was on his crutches, he'd fall right over. He was, however, glad enough to see Yae that he actually hugged him back.

"Yae, I was looking for you. I think you are talking about a 'garden gnome', and that is a very nice cat." Mika was starting to get used to how Yae talked, and was able to follow the leaps in the conversation. He caressed the pretty kitten that reminded him of a Russian blue, with a finger. Mika listened to the cascade of words that Yae aimed at the other boy, and smiled to himself. Ah Yae, he was something else. Mika was excited to be going home with him over break. It would keep him from dwelling on this quiddich nonsense.

"I was in DADA," Mika said when Yae paused for breath and Lucas fell quiet. "I was way at the back though, so you probably did not see me. You are filthy." Mika added, looking Yae over with a critical eye. His clothes were immaculate. He tried to brush some of the dirt off of Yae, and pick the twigs out of his hair. He glanced at Lucas. "What did you think of DADA?" it seemed like a good conversation starter.\n\n

You were expecting something else...? by Jae

"That's okay," Jae said to Lucas. "Pecaris are all over the place. You probably shouldn't try meeting Caedence when she's not in a good mood, though. She's scary. And she told me to watch out 'cause people would set traps. I'm not too good at watching out, though."

Jae put Jenny on Mika's lap, next to his sloyka, then pulled out Todd and set him in Mika's lap as well. Jenny immediately started poking at the other sloyka with her paws and nose. Then, assuring herself that it was the same thing as Todd was, she jumped atop Jaeven's sloyka and curled up, purring. Todd himself made squeaking noises at the other sloyka. Jaeven grinned widely down at his pets.

"Did you name your sloyka yet? Is it a girl or a boy? I think Todd's a boy. 'Cause Todd is a boy name, and he wouldn't have a boy name if he weren't a boy, right? I was chasing Jenny around in the gardens. We saw another gnomething. She wanted to chase it. Dayda was fun, except for I got hurt. Caedence and I found a weird statue with a beak that snapped and had stuff in it, except I climbed up it and fell off and hurt my shoulder. I like Dayda though. It's fun. And we get to see fun animals. And I learned to do the wandspell!! My wandstick worked pretty good."\n\n

Animals Much? by Mika

Mika looked down at his lap which was now fully of furry critters, two sloykas and a kitten. He blinked a bit as the kitten made itself, herself, at home than shrugged. He didn't really mind.

"My sloyka is a boy sloyka," Mika replied when Yae finally stopped talking. He had listened carefully, so he could respond to each of the things that Yae said. It was quite a task, and Mika was glad he had such a useful brain. He was good, very good, at memorizing and remembering things. "I have named him Spot. He has a spot, and he's kind of a 'spot' in his own right." Mika pointed to the patch of darker fur on the light colored sloyka. Spot had accepted Jenny's explorations with out much ado, responding to Todd's sloyka-noises.

"You should not climb on things that are not meant for climbing," Mika admonished. "You could get hurt, well, you did get hurt. So you should not climb on things," Mika was pretty sure that was what his mother would say anyway. Mika wasn't one to go climbing things, for obvious reasons.

"That is good, that your wand is working well. I am excited for the next Care of Magical Creatures class, that was the most interesting so far." Which was saying something. Mika liked animals well enough, but he wasn't really an 'animal person' per-say. So far though, it had been the most enjoyable class at Sonora.\n\n

Well, maybe a bit by Jae

Mika had finally found out that his sloyka was a boy sloyka and had named it Spot. That meant that Spot and Todd could be friends! It was good that Mika's sloyka had a name now, because now Jae could stop calling him Mika's sloyka and start calling him Spot. Because it would be kind of boring to be called Nina's friend or Mika's friend or Brett's roommate all the time. Everyone needed a name.

"I know I shouldn't climb on some stuff," Jae said. "But Caedence said it was okay. And I got candy, even though I did something to my shoulder. It hurt, but it was kind of fun, too, 'cause there was this madcool statue with a clapping beak and robes and stuff. It was weird. I like Comec too. Maybe I should teach Comec when I'm a grownup! That would be fun, 'cause I could play with sloykas all the time! And Caedence was saying about crups, too, so I could play with those too. They're like dogs, but not. Oh, and horses! There could be lots of horses too!"

By this time, Jae was excited and bouncing up and down. He couldn't wait for Comec again. Animals were madcoolawesomelyamazing. Sloykas and kittens and horses and...and everything!\n\n
