After spending the summer in New York for her younger sister Roxie’s wedding, it was a bit of a culture shock for Marian to be back at the school. Mostly, it was just the lack of formality, and, of course, the obvious difference of having young adults running around all the time, but the differences between her family home and her place of work were almost overwhelming sometimes. She still wasn’t sure which she preferred more.
Of course, September first wasn’t really a fair standard to judge the school by. Everyone was more energetic and carefree than usual, or the other extreme, almost lethargic with the everyday task of learning and teaching being thrust upon all once more.
The feast wasn’t that different than usual. The first years were probably the most amusing part, since at least a few reactions to the potion were guaranteed to be entertaining. She was also rather pleased with the Pecari house prefect this year. With such a rambunctious house, a few of the choices in the past had proven to be less than wise. At least this year the prefect had some sense. Well, at least Marian assumed this. She knew the girl disliked the Cravens, who returned the sentiment, so that had to at least one point in Mia Kerova’s favor.
As the feast went on, Marian also realized that she’d chosen the wrong side of the table to sit on, at least as far as conversation went. She could hear snippets of her colleagues’ discussion though, all of which sounded entertaining. She made a mental note to sit on Bulla’s opposite side from now on, then got a good look at the newest professor. Despite the rather strange hat, there was something that looked distinctly familiar about him. Could it….
Marian’s suppositions were cut short by the general finishing of the meal. Noticing that Kiva had already left to take her students to the common room, Marian followed suit, calling out once she had stood, “First year Pecaris, come with me.” After it appeared all of them had followed her directions, and were with her just outside the doors to Cascade Hall, she turned, and led them out towards the Labyrinth Gardens. \r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
