Headmaster Bulla

November 25, 2006 1:28 AM
The sorting for the year officially over, Manfred stood and waited for things to quiet down. The first years, as the tradition went, had each been given a chalice a clear, bubbling potion to drink as they entered the hall were and instructed to drink deeply. And, just like every other sorting in the history of the school, the result had been that the first years had all turned the main colour that represented the house they were to join; bright blue for Aladren, deep red for Crotalus, muddy brown for Pecari and sunshine yellow for Teppenpaw. The colour change lasted a few minutes only, but for the time it was in effect it tended to get some interesting reactions from the new first year students. It had been ever so since the foundation of the school and would ever be thus.

But now that that was over and the students settling into seats, it was time for the second important part of the Opening Feast.

"Welcome," he said when things had quietened down. "Welcome to a new year at Sonora Academy. To our new students, I am Headmaster Bulla. I hope that you enjoy your time here, work hard and do your new houses proud. To our returning students, I'm sure you've all had wonderful holidays and it is good to see you've all returned. I would ask Mr Zack Dill of Aladren, Miss Chrysanthemum Mathers of Crotalus, Miss Mia Kerova of Pecari and Miss Kaylie Brockert of Teppenpaw to all come to the front please."

He moved around the staff table, holding a small box which he opened when the four had arrived.

"Congratulations," he informed them in a quieter voice. "You have all been selected to serve as Prefects for your houses. Remember this is a position of both privilege and responsibility. You will have the power to give and take points, and will be expected to assist your Head of House if a situation arises. I'm sure you will all do us proud."

He handed them each their prefect badges, bronze metal embossed with the badge of Sonora and the word 'prefect' underneath then straightened himself up a little more to address the school once more.

"Congratulations to our four new prefects. Now, I expect that you are all waiting ravenously for the Feast. Wait no longer."

With a wave, the food started to pile up on the tables and jugs of drinks appeared, all ready for the students and staff to tuck in. Manfred, instead of returning to his seat paused a moment, just in case any of the new Prefects wished to say or ask anything.\n\n

Caedence Redoak

November 25, 2006 3:09 PM
Caedence couldn't contain her excitement for long. Sure, the ride was uncomfortable. Sure, she had to deal with a car ride to the wagons in her dad's Escort with both parents in the car. And sure, there was downsides to returning to Sornora, but she was back! Back to the place she wasn't a freak! She smiled a bit.

Her summer didn't go that well. She was, however used to her home life. Her dad either growled insults at her or ignored her. The neighborhood kids were jerks and were always trying to pick a fight. Her mom was babying her all summer. Worst of all, she couldn't use her wand! How she itched to draw it on her father and scream "EXPELLIAMUS!" Unfortunately, using magic in front of muggles wasn't allowed.

She glanced around, but couldn't find Elly. Well, that was okay. After all, Elly had her friends to sit with. It wasn't like it really mattered. So she took a seat somewhere close to the middle of the table. She smirked as several of the new first years reacted with surprise at turning a different color. She herself had drank that potion last year, and turned a muddy brown. She also remembered the first person she met; some kid named Adam. It was after meeting Adam that she met her friend, Elly Ericksson. She smiled at the memory while she dished herself up some food. Someone knocked into her arm, causing her to drop her glass, half full of water, spilling it on her plate. "Watch it!" she snapped turning to glare at the poor unfortunate person who ran into her.\n\n

Hyana Kamiya

Hyana looked around the beautiful Cascade Hall, her eyes wide. Never in her life had she seen anything like this. She found her table and sat down, pushing her black hair out of her face.

Hyana drank out of the goblet, like she was instructed, and found herself turn a bright blue. Surprised, she dropped her cup onto her lap, and the rest of the liquid spilled onto her shirt. She heard some classmates around her laugh, and hoped that they were laughing at something else.

She waited for the speech to be over, then stood quickly to dry off. On the way out, she bumped into someone's arm, and heard a girl shout, "Watch it!"

Hyana turned around and looked at the girl, who was glaring at her.

"I-I'm sorry," she stuttered, "It w-was an accident...really." She braced herself for the reply. Whoever this girl was, she didn't seem nice.\n\n

The Craven Twins

November 27, 2006 12:56 PM
The Craven twins, who usually entered the hall with a boom and bang (or a bang and a boom, depending on who went first) were somewhat more subdued this year. Not only the responsibility of growing up (one topic of which was still causing a lot of friction) but certain family issues weighed heavily on their minds.

"I'm going to the bathroom," Sorrel mumbled, as they neared the Cascade Hall.

"Ok, I'll wait for you," Ash replied. He didn't think Sorrel really needed the loo, but he didn't stop her. He guessed she didn't want to risk embarrassing herself by crying at the sorting ceremony. It had been weird seeing Sorrel get all weepy, like an actual girl. He blamed their mum and Gramma for setting her off. That, and weird girly hormones.

Once she emerged from the toilet, they carried on to the Cascade Hall, entering as the firsties settled into place, hopefully having avoided any major sobbing or faintings from the new acquisitions to Sonora. Heading over the Pecari table, they were just in time to catch Caedence snapping at a first year, who terrifiedly stuttered an apology.

"It's ok, she knows you didn't mean to," Ash told the first year before Caedence had a chance to lash into her.

"I'll dry you," Sorrel offered, kind of quietly. Subtley, she drew her wand and muttered 'sechio'. She sort of hoped that no one had seen her doing that. Just cos she wasn't snappy with the first years didn't mean she should let people see her being soft on them, especially the wussy ones. "Your table's over there - go on," she prompted, ushering the girl towards the Aladren table.

"See you on the pitch Caed," they nodded, it being only polite to acknowledge their team mate before moving around the table.

"Hey, there she- er, Liz is," Ash said, a touch too exuberantly. Sorrel rolled her eyes a little, but at least Liz was a decent girl. It wasn't like her brother had designs on Princess - the thought of that just made her feel sick!

"Hey," they both smiled (Ash more so) sitting down beside their friend. "Good summer?"\n\n

Lizzie Lavine

Lizzie usually wasn’t perturbed by loud noises or crashing objects, so when Caedence’s glass was tipped over by some little firstie, she barely even noticed. It was, however, the arrival of the Craven Twins that caught her attentions. She grinned back at the two of them as they sat down, taking note of the slightly strange behavior Sorrel was exhibiting. The female Craven was actually being nice to a first year? A lot sure had changed over the break.

“Hey,” she replied, refilling her glass with pumpkin juice, “Yes, definitely. And yours? I hope all went well…”

She wondered what had gotten into Sorrel as of late, not that the two of them had been fabulous friends or anything, but the glaringly obvious change in mood was enough to make her wonder. Ash seemed to be alright though, so maybe that meant that the break wasn’t completely horrid for the pair of them. Liz lightly brushed back some straying hair and tucked it behind her ear in order to see Ash without it falling in her eyes.
