Scurry hurried through the school, pausing every now and then to make sure that the young miss was not left behind (moral support... even ignorant moral support; there was nothing like it), but making his way in as direct a path as it was possible to take to the Acting Headmaster's office without taking the elven tunnels.

Reaching the Hall of Plants, he hesitated for a moment on the threshold, and his hands reflexively moved to cover his ears. They didn't quite make it as he again saw the mysterious red substance that had attached itself to them and jumped guiltily. Peering carefully around - the menacing, elf-ear-eating plant who guarded the hall was supposed to have left with the Headmistress, but it payed to be sure - before he was satisfied that it was safe he made his way up the hall and to the far wall.

"Miss," he said, turning to the girl. "Could you be knocking for Scurry? He would be doing so himself, but..." he paused, and then held his hands up so she could see them properly. "He is not being able to do so at the moment."\n\n

Terribly sorry, then by Jennifer

Jennifer had never had any idea that this room she found herself in existed. Now, this might merely be because she was too much of a 'good, nice child,' as a few well meaning adults had put it that she never would have been sent to the Headmistress's office, but a room filled with plants merely seemed like something she should have noticed before now.

Jennifer really wasn't concentrating all that much on why she hadn't noticed the room before after the initial pondering, though. She was too busy staring at some of the more exotic looking plants. Most of them she didn't recognize, but there were a few that she had seen before travelling with her dad, and she momentarily forgot the entire
point of this venture as a wave of homesickness crept over her.

Scurry's question, however, brought her back to reality. Shaking her head to clear her thoughts, she murmered, "Of course," as she inwardly scolded herself for forgetting what she was supposed to be doing. As she raised a hand and rapped firmly on the door, Scurry's last few words sank in. Gazing at his outstretched hands, she gave him a rather quizical look and asked, a bit bluntly, "Where did that come from, Scurry?"

It probably wasn't the kindest thing to do, and the poor elf seemed so very upset, but she was getting a feeling that the prairie-elf had some important role in what was going on. It was merely a hunch, mind you, but it was growing stronger by the moment. She supposed that everything would be straightened out as soon as they spoke to Bulla, however, as soon as he answered the door.\n\n

He's just the help - you don't say sorry, you say "jump" by Acting Headmaster Bulla

Manfred hadn't been ignorant of what was going on in the school. Not in the least. If light which poured in through the window when the sun came out had definitely managed to catch his attention, then the loud and increasing trickling sound of the developing water problem that had come to his ears through the window he'd opened not long after the sun came out had made sure that he didn't miss the significance of what was happening.

He stared out the window, felt a faint stirring of panic flutter in his chest and savagely pushed the feeling aside. Perhaps this was the opportunity they had all been waiting for. Presumably the rest of the staff had noticed as well (well, perhaps not Reynolds, considering that the man seemed to like burying himself in books - not something that Manfred disagreed with per se, considering that he himself had written a few text books, but a thing that he thought should be a little more balanced out) and as he stared out and started to formulate plans and idea of what should be done he also listened with half an ear for a knock at the door.

Things like this didn't happen without a trigger, and with the staff on alert, here was a chance to discover what the trigger was and hopefully, discover the mystery behind the weather at Sonora.

Thus, when a knock did happen he rushed to the door, opening it and already starting to speak as he did so.

"Tell me everyth-" and seeing a student and a prairie elf instead of the staff member he had been expecting, stopped short. He looked down at them sternly. "Miss Zucchero," he asked, "what brings you and this elf to my office at this moment?"\n\n

How high? by Scurry

Scurry dearly wished to be able to wring his hands in those seconds before the door opened, and even more so when Professor Bulla emerged behind the door.

"I is Scurry, Professor Bulla Sir," he said, looking nervously at the man. He didn't seem angry. At least, not yet. He wondered what exactly he should say, and then realised that perhaps this was not the time for nervousness or holding back: the sound of Master Paul Simon and the other elves carried clearly through the window.

"Scurry was cleaning the building, sir, just like Scurry has been doing many times this year, and then the wind blew Scurry's ladder over. Scurry used his clever strong fingers to hold onto a window sill, but they was not being strong enough - and they was being frostbitten, sir - and poor Scurry fell. He was trying to save himself, and he tried to slow himself and look sir," he held out his hands. "He is not knowing where the red is coming from, but it is strange sir and then," he hesitated half a second, "the sun was coming out and things was getting much, much warmer. And Young Miss Zucchero was finding Scurry and saying that he should come here and tell you about what is happening."

He didn't know if he should say anything about his previous ideas* but wasn't sure this was the time. The heat from outside was being felt in here now, at the far side of the room from a window. Surely Professor Bulla had more important things to do than to deal with a Prairie Elf.

Seems like a SPEW moment by Jennifer

Jennifer was proud that she didn’t immediately start stammering or looking at the floor under Bulla’s rather stern gaze. He had always scared her just a little. He just seemed rather strict and uncompromising at times, although a few had claimed he wasn’t as bad as he seemed. However, she met his gaze as Scurry hastily explained everything that had happened. When it appeared that the prairie elf had finished, she took a deep breath, and continued where he had left off.

“I truly am sorry to disturb you, sir,” she began, not sure exactly what to address Bulla as now, Acting-Headmaster being such a ridiculous mouthful, and Professor seeming just a bit too little. Sir seemed to fit well. “But it just seemed odd, to put it simply. And it seemed like something you should hear about as soon as possible, what with everything else that’s been going on.”

Not sure where to go from there, Jennifer dropper her gaze and looked out the window where the weather seemed to be doing what it was supposed to in Arizona, for once. She did feel a bit embarrassed now, having thought it all over. Perhaps whatever Scurry had been so upset over wasn’t that important, and she was merely wasting the acting-headmaster’s time.

“It just… seemed urgent,” she finished rather weakly, still staring out at the grounds. “Scurry just seemed so panicked, and it made me think that it could have something to do with….all this. It just felt like something you know how to deal with better than him or me.”

She truly did hope so. What with the weirdness of the entire situation, it would help a great deal if an adult knew what to do, and from what she had heard, Professor Bulla generally tended to be the go-to person for just about everything that went wrong.

Professor Bulla

heaven help us all by Professor Bulla

Manfred frowned as the elf started to explain, and the frown only deepened as the story went on and was taken up by Jennifer. Dropped down to a knee in order to get a better look, he examined Scurry's hands. The red was definitely not natural. There was something on his hands, something that appeared to not be particularly inclined to come off again.

Perhaps there was something that made it... adhesive. And there was a slightly odd smell about it too. Like something you'd find in a potions lab.

He stood hurridly, struggling to hide his elated feelings. This was a clue! A definite clue. Perhaps it was the answer they'd been looking for. There'd been that whole massive alteration of their situation only minutes ago, it seemed, and here was an elf with a supicious substance on his hands that apparently came from the school itself.

The answer seemed obvious. Somehow, the founders had combined convential charms with a potion. It must have been how the spell lasted so long, how it had been so stable for a century and a half.

And now, although the heat was getting to uncomfortable levels already - another sure sign that something monumental had happened - perhaps there was a chance to fix things. This was just what he'd been hoping and waiting for.

"Miss Zucchero, if you'd be so kind as to run a few messages for me," he glanced at the time, "I don't believe you've any classes scheduled for a little while. I need to you make sure Professor Connell is in the Potions classroom - I'll follow along with Scurry here in a moment. Maybe drop in on the Medic and see if he's able to help her out there. And after that if you could find the Librarian and have him join us all there?"

He stopped talking for a moment, looking down at Scurry, then back at Jennifer. "Thank you, Jennifer. You've done the right thing bringing Scurry to me. I think I'll be awarding 10 points to Crotalus for your mature and quick-thinking actions. Now, if you could get to that errand..." he raised an eyebrow at the girl for half a second before turning to the wall and pulling down a few books.

"Carry these- On second thoughts, I'd better carry them, Scurry. Follow me."

And he set off on his way to the Potions Lab. Things were looking up. Perhaps an end to the maddness was possible after all.\n\n
