Roommate Thread (2nd Years, After the Feast) by Farrah Welsh

After the feast, Farrah returned to the Aladren common room feeling much better than she first had coming off of the wagon. Kellen had a way of picking her up when she wasn’t in the mood for anything and she really appreciated his friendship. She really wished that Georgia was an Aladren too because that would have made the night all the more better for Farrah. She had missed her best friend during the summer and was really looking forward to getting to spend time with her in lessons the following morning. She only hoped that Georgia hadn’t been looking for her before the feast since Farrah had accidentally fallen asleep and missed all the time between getting off the wagon and the feast. Thankfully, Madeleine had woken her up in time so that she hadn’t missed that.

Since she had slept for so long that afternoon, Farrah wasn’t necessarily feeling very tired now, which meant that she needed to do something in order to wind down. She bid goodnight to Kellen and made her way up to her dorm room where she was bound to run into her roommates if they hadn’t wandered off to do something else before curfew. Farrah decided to use this time to unwind by unpacking her trunk. Hopefully her roommates wouldn’t be mad at her for doing this now instead of earlier, but if they really wanted to go to sleep, she could just wait until tomorrow evening to finish up.

Farrah was pulling her supplies out of her pack to put away in the desk when she noticed the note on top of her nightstand. She hadn’t noticed it earlier when she had first woken up. Confused, Farrah picked it up and read it over. It wasn’t much, but it still caused a frown to appear and her brows to furrow. She wasn’t really sure why Arianna would need to talk to her or what would have her worried. Since the other girl was not around yet, Farrah dropped the note on the bed and returned to the task at hand.

As she continued to unpack, she heard the door to the dorm room open and she turned to see one of them entering now. She gave a smile as that was always the polite way to greet someone, “Hi.” She said as she turned back to her trunk to pull out some more of her dresses that her mother had neatly folded and hung them up in her wardrobe. “I hope you don’t mind that I’m unpacking now.” She commented. “Did you have a good meal?” She thought that having a nice conversation would at least have her school term off to a better start than it had last term.

What fun by Arianna Valenti

Arianna made her way back to the Aladren common room, alone and displeased. Either Farrah had not read her letter before the Opening Feast, or she had, and was just blatantly disregarding it. Either way, it was clear that Kellen had been determined to get to Arianna’s roommate first, sitting next to Farrah the whole dinner. No doubt playing all nice and helpless, trying to discredit Arianna, of course. The creep. Why, she felt like she could curse him right now, if only she knew how.

Hopefully, Arianna had managed to get Madeleine on her side over the dinner. She could never tell with the French girl, there was something about her that was always slightly off, which Arianna attributed to a language barrier, or a class barrier, or probably both. The important thing here was that Arianna wasn’t the only one who knew what Kellen was really like now. And Madeleine wouldn’t be the last to find out

She entered the dorm room, tying her dark curls into a top knot as she did so. It had already been such a long day, travelling from New York to Sonora and everything that had happened since. And there was still so much more to do. Farrah was already in the room, unpacking and seemingly normal as ever. Her Vermont-based roommate could be as enigmatic as her French one, sometimes. Farrah had such nice clothes, but actively chose to wear geek stuff most of the time instead. What Arianna would do to have a choice like that. Analyzing the scene further, she noticed that her note had moved to Farrah’s bed. So Farrah had read it.

“Hey,” she responded, carefully taking off her necklace and putting it on the dresser. She had her own unpacking to do, but wasn’t at all in the mood for that now, so she sat on her bed facing Farrah instead. She flattened the skirt of her black dress on her lap, careful not to leave any wrinkles.

“Sure,” she said, feeling particularly unimpressed. It had always been a pet peeve of hers when people asked permission or forgiveness for something that didn’t require it. Whether or not Farrah unpacked at this very moment was not up to Arianna, or anyone other than Farrah for the matter. The fact that she would ask such a ridiculous question made it all the more clear to Arianna that she had to take action.

“Dinner was fine,” she said smoothly, not interested in that particular topic, before observing, “Kellen seemed to be in a better mood.”

Farrah

It always is with you involved. by Farrah

Farrah felt a little disappointed that it was only Arianna who came into the room. She would have preferred Madeleine or the both of them together rather than just Arianna on her own. Farrah had no idea why the other girl was so rude to her all the time. Farrah had never done anything but try to be polite to her but that just seemed to bring out the mean girl in Arianna. Or, she was just that type of person all the time and faked being nice to the other Aladrens for reasons that Farrah couldn’t fathom at the moment. It might also be why she had been rude to Kellen. Kellen was Farrah’s friend, Arianna hated Farrah, and therefore, Arianna must also hate Kellen by association. Farrah half wondered if Arianna had ever been mean to Georgia too, although she did not recall Georgia saying anything to her about it last year.

She went back to unpacking her belongings. She brought more from home that was personal to her than she had the previous year. Pictures of her family, pictures of her friends, some comics that she wanted to show Kellen, and some of her favorite books that she was constantly rereading whenever she needed a pick me up. It wasn’t necessarily a lot of personal items, but she thought that they would make her feel better when she was feeling homesick. Last year, the homesickness had hit her hard and since she couldn’t talk directly with her mom, it had lasted a long time. Her mother had written her a note this year. It was something simple, but Farrah knew that whenever she was feeling down, she could take the note out and read it, knowing that it was her mom that was saying it to her.

Farrah looked up from her trunk and looked at Arianna when she brought up Kellen. “I guess so?” Farrah stated, looking uncertain. Her eyes glanced at the note on her bed and then at Arianna. “Oh, is that what the note was about?” She asked, the two topics clicking together in her mind. Arianna hadn’t specified what it was that she was worried about, so it could have very well been about Madeleine as it could have been about Kellen. “He told me what happened.” Farrah commented, returning back to her things. She wasn’t going to say that she sided with Kellen because she felt his anger had been extreme, but she wasn’t not going to support him because she understood how frustrating her roommate could be. “He feels bad about getting angry, but he was having a bad day and your, er, attitude towards him just sort of pushed him over, you know?” Farrah said casually.

It takes two to tango but three makes it a party! by Madeleine Dautin

After dinner with Arianna, Madeleine had made the excuse to her roommate that she needed to find Bastien and talk to him about something. She made sure to appear rather anxious and pressing so that the other girl would think that whatever it was that was going on was rather urgent. It helped that they were both foreign students from the same country and the same circle since it meant that there were some things she could conceivably only talk to Bastien about. Plus the rest of the school seemed to think they were best friends.

After hanging around Cascade Hall until she was sure Arianna had left, Madeleine made her way to the Aladren common room to lie in wait for Kellen Mormont. However, as she trailed behind the new first years who Professor Pye was taking slowly through the school so that they might have an easier time remembering how to find the hall for breakfast the next day, she realised that while she might lose Arianna, she might also lose Kellen. Once in the common room, she asked around if anyone had seen him and the general consensus from those she had talked to seemed to be that they’d all seen him go up to the boys dorms. Which meant that Madeleine would have to wait until tomorrow to discover the dish on Farrah’s friend.

But all was not lost. Madeleine got to the door in time to hear Farrah talking. Which meant that the evening could still be salvaged. After all, Farrah didn’t know where she was and Arianna thought she was with Bastien. Flora smiled. Now she would know if Farrah and Arianna were working together. Surely they would not have a full discussion with the possibility of Madeleine walking in at any moment, but there had been that note and with Madeleine not there…

It was only an upperclassman walking by a few minutes later giving Madeleine a rather odd look that caused the twelve year old to start. “Oh, just dropped my earring,” she excused herself, falling to her knees and searching the floor until the older student had passed. It had been a close call but it was about time she head in—she couldn’t afford for too many people to notice her lingering habits.

“Hey,” she said as she walked in, playing with the earring that had never fallen out of her ear in the first place so that it looked like she was putting it back in. “Dropped my earring, I feel so lucky to have found it, it’s dark out there!” Madeleine walked straight to her trunk and began to unpack her things, something she had neglected to do earlier when she’d been in there napping and snooping.

OOC: Feel free to have another exchange before Madeleine “entered.” I’m guessing she probably heard the last bit of what Farrah was saying, starting around “… he was having a bad day and your, er, attitude towards him just sort of pushed him over, you know?”
