Thaddeus wasted little time in putting up the sign-up sheet for Quidditch try-outs. The Aladren team had not lost anybody to graduation this year - a welcome change after all the losses they'd suffered the previous two years - so that gave them a slight edge over all the other teams which were now under new management this year. He had no intention of squandering that advantage by lollygagging about before their first game.
Plus, after losing to Pecari last year, he felt he had something to prove, especially since he was now also the Head Boy. He would not let Jade Owen - now Captain as well as Seeker for her team - best him again if he had any say in the matter. He hoped she was a much worse captain than Seeker and the rest of the Pecari team would fall apart around her - then he immediately felt guilty and unsportsmanlike for that thought . . . but he was unable to banish it completely.
The first years were still gathered around Professor Fawcett as he pinned the notice to the bulletin board. He politely and patiently waited until the question and answer session concluded before speaking up, and indicating his notice, he invited, "Quidditch sign-ups are open. If you have any questions about the team, I'll be happy to answer them."
Anyone who approached the sheet would see a crisp parchment, meticulously and clearly laid out, that read:
Aladren Quidditch Sign-Ups
Please sign up below if you are interested in joining the Aladren Quidditch team. Your help is needed to reclaim the Quidditch Cup Trophy from Pecari. Indicate below your name, year, and desired position(s). Preference will be given to experienced players but no positions are guaranteed.
On the first line of the sheet, Thaddeus had added his own information as an example.
Thaddeus Pierce, Seventh Year, Seeker
He did not bother adding 'or Keeper' this time, since that had been the position most hotly contested last year.
Clark wasn't sure, what with the aliens all about and the staff missing, whether or not Quidditch would run as normal. Both the bludgers and snitches, after all, were alien creatures themselves, so Clark thought they might want to keep a low profile while the ones attacking the school were about, but then he decided that it would be too suspicious to change their behavior and be more likely to alert the populace to their true nature, so the Quidditch balls would likely continue to function as normal.
Likewise, Clark felt he should also continue on as normal, so as not to raise any suspicions himself, and so he found himself in front of the sign-up sheet.
His dad had been Aladren's Seeker for six years. Clark sort of felt he should follow that example except for two things: (a) Dad had the perfect seeker build, and (b) Clark was way too tall for the position. He was only eleven but he was already only one inch shy of catching up to his dad's height, and he suspected he'd be past the five foot mark by midterm. He might be smaller than the current seeker (who was, according to the sign-up already on the sheet, a seventh year and the captain besides) but that was surely only due to age. On the plus side, he was pretty skinny (his dad did not believe in food waste and only made exactly as much as they needed to eat to be healthy - a trend that Sonora did not follow, so maybe he ought to be a bit more careful about portion sizes if he wanted to maintain his slim form and low relative mass) and he had super long arms for reaching further than a more traditionally sized Seeker might be able to reach.
Still, Clark pragmatically added another option, as it was highly unlikely that he'd unseat the Captain Himself.
Clark Dill, 1st Year, Chaser and/or Reserve Seeker
