Virginia Bellrose

Ginny was thirteen years old now and already behind with her ballet. She was only just beginning to learn pointe but everyone else in her group had begun to learn it the year before. Ginny had sulked a great deal with this knowledge but her teacher said she only had herself to blame. Ginny didn’t really think this was at all fair. She couldn’t go to ballet lessons while at school the way some of the other girls could. They did not teach dance here anymore than they taught etiquette, so Ginny wasn’t really sure what her dance instructor expected of her. Of course, she could have practiced more on her own so that she could have maintained a similar disposition as those in her class, but Ginny had been caught up in trying to fit in that ballet had fallen to the back of her mind. However, being behind with her group just made her all the more determined to work hard and get back to where she needed to be.

Adam’s question regarding doing ballet during her Dance Club did ring in her ears, but she didn’t want to use the dance club like that. It was meant to be fun for everyone. She didn’t want to force ballet onto anyone who didn’t appreciate the loveliness, the elegance, the beauty of the dance. Besides, she really loved learning the other dances. Being an only child, she hadn’t really been able to do much Ballroom dancing, unless her father was around to dance with her (which, of course, was so fun, but very rare). So, doing it with her friends was fun. Or just doing random dancing like how Charlie and Ji-Eun did. She had enjoyed the dancing at Ji-Eun’s booth at the fair too and was hoping she would show her some more at the club meetings.

Which is why she was here now. It was over a month into the school year and Ginny had been so busy getting used to her Intermediate lesson schedule and amount of homework that she had nearly forgotten all about getting the club set up. But after her last ballet practice, Ginny had been reminded of her duties as Hostess to the club. As a result, she had dug through her trunk until she found her sign ups and pinned them onto the bulletin boards. Hopefully, she would get as big of a turn out as she had the year before.

She sat in the MARS Dance room in one of her ballet outfits. It wasn’t because she wanted to throw people off into thinking they would be doing dance that day, but rather, she had been practicing to work out some of her nerves before the meeting. Ginny wasn’t normally a girl to get very nervous about things, but she was hosting this and was worried that no one would show. Being a whole 5 feet in height, thirteen and dealing with growing up, long brown hair that was currently falling out of the bun in little wavy wisps, large green eyes, and attachment issues, Ginny was not necessarily the most confident of girls, despite being relatively happy with the things in her life.

Her outfit was a simple pink leotard with an attached tricot skirt that fell mid-thigh. This was a standard dance outfit for pretty much everyone. Sometime she wore a tutu when she was feeling cute. She had a lot of dance outfits. Really pretty ones too, but she hardly ever was able to wear the nice ones. Her mother said it was a waste to wear those for practice. She would love to be in a recital wearing an outfit that made her look like a beautiful fairy or a princess.

Ginny was playing with one of her hair wisps when the door opened. Smiling, Ginny stood up to greet the first of her members. “Hi! Welcome to Dance Club, help yourself to some juice and cookies while we wait for everyone!” She said happily, hoping that she hid any anxiety that she felt.

Once she felt that most of the members had joined them, she began, “Hello everyone and thank you for coming to the first Dance Club meeting of the year. I am Virginia Bellrose, but you can feel free to call me Ginny. I’m a Third Year in Crotalus and this is my second year hosting this club.” She introduced, mostly for the new members. “So, I don’t really have any set program or anything for the club. Mostly, we all get together and learn difference dances with other people who enjoy doing it. How about we go around and introduce ourselves and say what we’re hoping to do in this club. You first.” Ginny said, looking to the person closest to her to start.
