Owl to Thomas Fitzgerald by Coach Amelia Pierce

At around the same time Thomas Fitzgerald was due to return to the commons after the first day of classes, a school owl winged into the Aladren dorms with a letter attached to its leg. This letter read:

Captain Fitzgerald,

First of all, allow me to extend my congratulations on making Head Boy! You may also pass on the same to your assistant captain for her success in becoming Head Girl. The Aladren team has a lot to be proud of this year.

Of course, as you'll both be graduating, and you'll both likely be very busy this year with the RATS and your other duties, there will be a slight change to the Aladren Quidditch leadership.

I am appointing a second Assistant Captain to you. Show Daniel Nash the ropes so he can continue the team next year.

Congratulations again,
Coach Pierce

Reply, and Owls to Jera Valson and Daniel Nash by Thomas Fitzgerald

The owl arrived at the same time Thomas did, leaving it to wait a moment while he dropped a pile of texts - mostly on topics related to Potions and Magisociology; there were disadvantages, at least from a momentary standpoint that even he occasionally succumbed to, to having his Head of House also be one of his formal Advanced teachers and semi-supervising his independent studies - and rubbed his arm. The primary subjects were unfortunately close the front of the library. Once his fingers were back to being able to manipulate objects, he untied the letter and opened it.

When he'd finished it, he couldn't help but laugh a little. At the opening feast, he'd thought about shoving some of his and Jera's responsibilities onto Daniel, and now, the coach was agreeing with him about what a good idea it was. There would have to be balance, since his second assistant was a fifth year and CATS were, in some ways, as important as RATS, but this would be a major relief for him and Jera alike.

Sitting down, he took out three pages to write on.

Coach Pierce,

Thank you for your congratulations - which I will be sure to pass along to Asst. Captain Valson - and for the assistance of Asst. Captain Nash. He'll be a great help to us, and, I'm sure, a credit to the Aladren team and Sonora Quidditch program in his new role.

- Thomas Fitzgerald, Aladren Captain

Once that was sent off, he began a second missive; he could have delivered this message in person, but for all he knew, Jera had as much work to do as he did and would be even more eager to start it. Not that it was hard to be more enthusiastic than he was about work, though he did intend to start on it immediately.

Jera,

Just heard from Coach Pierce - given our situation, which she congratulates us on, she's decided to add Daniel Nash as an extra assistant. Hope classes are going well for you.

- Thomas

And the third, a little more formally:

Daniel,

As Jera Valson will be graduating with me at the end of the year, it's been decided that you will act as a secondary Assistant Captain this year and assume the role of Aladren Quidditch Captain next year. Congratulations.

As Assistant Captain, you'll be responsible for helping to run practices and formulate strategies based on both the strengths and weaknesses of our team and the probable strategies of other teams. I'm aware that we're all on difficult schedules this year, so we'll be working together extensively to ensure that the team doesn't suffer.

Again, congratulations, and my best regards,

Thomas Fitzgerald

All a little overdone for something like a high school sports team, perhaps, but it was all about the larger goal. He needed practice at this sort of thing. Once he had all the notes sent off, he returned to his desk to begin working through the first wave of assignments. Tomorrow would only add more, and anything he could get out of the way would be helpful.
