Okay so Uncle Bennet flipped on my Dad and told Cara and I that we were going to be spending holidays with him from now on. I wrote Dad to see if I could move in with him this summer, and it turns out that he got married and I didn't know! Argh! But I absolutely love the guy, his name is Garen at he works at another school, and he's really cool about things like letting me live at their apartment and letting me invite you over for the summer.
Dad and Garen-Dad live in Colorado, and there's this fantastic park called Estes with all these camping sites and wild animals and hiking spots and stuff right nearby. You should totally visit in June, we can spend a few days chilling in Boulder and then go camping in the mountains. I'd say July would be cool too, but Garen-Dad said that they might have foster kids moving in then so it might be weirder than usual.
Anyway, we need to hang out this summer and I'm actually going to be in the States and not wrapped up in weird family stuff, so...yes. Owl me back.
It was a rare pleasure when Jera got a letter from Jessie. The fourth year didn't really have any friends at Sonora, aside from the Aladren Quidditch team. Jessie was her one friend outside Sonora, particularly now the mountain druids didn't really talk to her much anymore. However, replying to her letter felt a lot more like lying than Jera would have liked.
Hey Jessie!
I'm really pleased that you like your Dad's new Garen. (Here she left out the part that she already knew about her Dad's marriage, and that her own parents had in fact gone to the wedding.) I would LOVE to come stay with you both this summer. (Again, saying it would be weird spending holiday time with a teacher who wasn't her own Ma was left out of the letter) Camping in Colorado also sounds really good. I've camped out in the mountains before (because she happened to live in the mountains in Colorado, so it wasn't a truly exciting and new experience) but it will be so much more fun with you there! If your Dad's place gets too weird in July you can always come stay with me. I might go to Romania to visit my paternal family for one week - but only because I have to - but I don't have anything else planned.
Send me another owl soon, I get bored here. Hope you're having fun with your Uncle Bennet.
Love, Jera Valson-Powell (she only used a hyphenated version of her parents' names because Jessie had, too.)
Having finished writing her reply, Jera left the commons immediately to go get an owl to deliver her reply. She was looking forward to the summer already.
