Owl for Geoffrey Layne by Allie St. Martin

Since the Concert, Lila had been sulking. Everything had a downside, and the downside of always winning was having no ability to handle losing with dignity. Allie was even more embarrassed for her sister than she was annoyed at her, as she was fairly sure everyone knew how bad a sport Lila was being about it all by now. Sonora wasn't a big school, and Lila was a recognizable person.

Since she had to live with the new Head Girl next year and would really rather not have Briony hate her because Lila, supposedly the socially smart one, was acting like a five-year-old, Allie had come up with a plan to show that she'd no problem with the election results and wished Briony the best of luck. She would send her a congratulatory note.

Since alienating the Head Boy wasn't a smart move, either, and it was really just common courtesy to send the kind of thing she had in mind, Allie had written Geoffrey Layne an identical note to Briony's. Because it was a formal thing, she had used her good stationery, with her initials raised in gold at the top. A few days after the announcement, the notes were sent off to the elects.

Geoffrey,

Congratulations on your election as Head Boy for our seventh year. If there's anything I can do to assist you, please don't hesitate to ask.

Sincerely,

Alexandra St. Martin
