Delany set her book down and looked around the common room. All you could learn about magical animals was interesting, but she liked to talk to other people too. Delany was sitting in front of tyhe fire and watched it as the flames danced and tickled at the logs inaside the grate. She remembered the summer she had gone into the country and had to learn to stoke a fire...and clean the chicken coop. Uhhgurah. Some wern't such happy memories.

She quickly stood up and turned towards the girls dorm. She was going to put her book away and brush through her hair again. She walked over to her dorm and went to her bed.

"Hey, Friski." She said to her black cat, who was lying at the end of her bed.

She set her book down on her side table and looked around. None of the girls were up here with her. She looked around one more time before heading over to her trunk and grabbing a brown paper bag out of the bottom. She unraveled the top and looked into it. Sitting at teh bottom was a gold locket. Not a heart locket. An oval locket with a picture of her brother and her smiling into the camera. They were so close and she could practically see the last time she saw him like she had just left him.

Flashback

Delany was walking down the sidewalk of the abandoned side of town. No one lived there anymore because of what went around about them if they did. But it was her only way home, and she got to stop of at the fire station. They had become like her second family. Only because her brother was working there. They had accepted him at a young age. Sixteen to be exact, because he had to help pay for her school. Her mom worked two jobs and her father was currently working on his degree for engeniering. She walked into the fire house and climbed up the stairs into the hall that led to the seperate chill-rooms, as Dylan called them.

"FEMALE IN THE HOUSE!" she called down the hall and watched as numerous heads poked out of the doors. She looked down to the last room and waited for Dylan to poke his head out.

"Dylan?" she said as she looked down the hall.

"Chillax! I'm coming." she heard him call as he walked out of the room.

He had obviously just finished running drill. His long blonde hair was wet with sweat. Either that or he had already taken his shower. She smiled when she saw him and dumped her bag on the ground.

"OK. Shows over." she said as she pushed a few smiling faces back into the rooms.

"So how was today?" Dylan asked as he opened the door wider smiling, his brown eyes sparkling.

"Uh. Ok. Biannca got her ears double peirced. Do you think da-." Delany said as she heard the bell go off downstairs. "We'll talk later. Probably another house that caught on the A side."

Dylan ruffled her hair as he ran down to the pole and slid down. She walked down a few of the steps and watched as he jumped onto the truck and drove out of site.

"Check under my pillows!" he called behind him as she waved good-bye.

"FINE! MR. BOSSY!" she called back before laughing.

She walked back up stairs and looked under his pillow. Underneath was an envelope with a picture of the two smiling into the camera, a picture of them making funny faces, a picture of her pushing him out of the picture, and a note saying to chose her favorite. She noticed that they were all the right size to put in her locket. She pulled her locket off her neck and looked through the pictures. She chose the regular one and put the rest back into the envelope. She slid out the old picture and put the new one in. It was very pretty.

For the next half-an-hour she walked around the room trying to find something to do. She was not strong enough to press his weights and she was definatly not going to go through his desk. So she sat down on the floor and started her homework. When she heard the familiar rumble of the truck back she walked over to the stairs and went down to the garage. She walked over to the truck and stood at teh enterance.

"Delany! Come here!" yelled one of the guys from a pick-up truck. She ran over and looked at him. "Your brothers atthe hospital. He got hit by a beam. Com on. Hop in."

Delany literally jumped in and stayed quiet. She was quite for the whole ride before they got to the hospital. She jumped out and followed him into the hospital. When they got to his room she ran over to hte bed and looked at him.

"Hey Dylan." She said.

"Hey." he said as he turned a fraction to look at her. "Which one'd ya choose?"

"The regular one." she said as she opened hte locket to let him see.

"You know everything I've done has been for you. Went...tired to go through high-school. Got a job at the fire-department, went to fairs and fundraisers, kept you away from bad influences, even that fight in the eighth grade was for you. He was asking for it. I did it all 'cause I love you more than anything." Dylan said as he breathed really deeply.

"No. Don't you even-Dylan don't you start." Delany said uselessly.

Because he was already gone. Blown away so easily. One little breath of wind, and then he was missing.

End flashback

Delany sat appatheticlly as she stared at the locket in the bag. He wouldn't want this. That was three years ago. Three years she had kept him hidden in a paper bag. She pulled out the locket and pulled it around her neck. She looked at the locket and stood up. She needed time to think.

She walked down out of the dormitory and started out of the common room. As she went out, she completly ran straight into someone. She got knocked backwards and jolted back.

"Oh. Sorry are you okay?" she said as she let go of the locket and let it fall down around her neck.

Researching by Jera Valson

The library at Sonora had to be among the best anywhere. Following her charms lesson, Jera had found three books that could help her with homework on the severing charm, and a couple more that just sounded interesting. In her seven years she was determined to work her way round the entire library, would that be possible, but for now she ought to stick with her class assignments.

Loaded down with the stack of five books, Jera could only just about see over the top of them. Getting into the Aladren commons was going to be difficult enough, but her efforts were entirely thwarted when someone bumped into her from the other side of the entrance. Completely losing her balance, Jera toppled to the floor, her library books falling from her arms to scatter the floor.

“Oh. Sorry, are you okay?” Jera looked up to see she’d run into her roommate.

“Yes, I’m okay,” she replied, pushing herself to her feet and brushing herself down. “Couldn’t see where I was going with that great pile of books,” she smiled, and began to pick the books up. She had met the girl – Delany, she was fairly sure she’d remembered it right – on their first evening, but Jera had been so exhausted she’d barely said ‘hello’ before crawling into bed.

Thats a lot of books. by Delany

Delany looked down at the books skewed across the ground. She quickly grabbed a few of them up and handed them to their owner. Her name was Jera. She was in Delanys Dormitory.

"Oh. Sorry Jera. I had a lot on my mind, and I guess I couldn't see where I was going." She said as she handed back three books on charms. She bent down again and gathered the rest of the books off the ground.

“Yes, I’m okay,” she replied, pushing herself to her feet and brushing herself down. “Couldn’t see where I was going with that great pile of books.”

"Oh. Well, do you want some help carrying them? I don't mind. I don't have anywhere else to go."

Yes, yes it is. by Jera

As she collected the last of her books, Jera made to accept the rest from Delany but, to her surprise, the other girl volunteered to help her. "Yes, that's very kind of you," Jera accepted her offer of help. "If you're sure you're not busy." It seemed as though Delany did have other plans, seeing as she'd been going in the opposite diretion when they ran into each other, but maybe she was just passing time.

"They're mostly charms books for the homework asignment," Jera explained as the girls made their way back into the common room. "I was going to get started now in the dorm. You wanna work on it together?" Deciding that didn't altogether sound a very inviting idea, Jera added, "Or I could do it later, and we could do something else together, if you'd like." Jera had never shared a room with anyone before. She was an only child and there were no other families living near hers, so the very idea of sharing a room had been daunting. Still, Delany seemed a nice enough girl, and it certainly couldn't hurt to get to know each other better.

Once they arrived back in the first year girls' room, Jera dumped the books she was carrying on her bed and indicated that Delany should do the same. "Thanks a bunch for carrying them for me," she repeated her gratitude. "Who knows how many people I would have bumped on the way up!"

I Don't Have Any. by Delany

Delany smiled as they walked up teh stairs and slid through the doorway. She walked over to the bed that Jera had dumped her books on and dropped the others there. She leaned up against the post as Jera talked.

"I was going to get started now in the dorm. You wanna work on it together?" Jera added, "Or I could do it later, and we could do something else together, if you'd like."

"Oh...Um...Yeah. I already told Seamus I'd do it with him. We were partners and we had some...interesting moments that we are going to put in our papers." Delany said as she pulled her hair behind her ears, a habit she had when she was excited or nervous.

She walked around the dorm and got to her bed three spaces down before she turned to JEra and looked at her.

"How about we go to the Gardens?" she asked as she smiled and waited for an answer.

You can share mine if you like by Jera

Jera felt her face fall when Delany said she'd already agreed to work on the charms assignment with Seamus. "Oh, okay," she said, not quite as cheerfully as she'd intended, but with far more good grace than she felt. She liked Seamus, too, and felt a bit jealous at the two of them working together, leaving her to work on her own. Still, she tried to be reasonable with herself - Delany said that she'd worked with Seamus in class, so they probably already had a good idea of what they were going to write together. Plus it wasn't as though they were leaving her out intentionally. After all, Jera had just asked Delany to work with her, but not Seamus. But that was because Delany was her roommate, and Seamus wasn't there. Shaking her head a little, Jera decided to stop thinking about it immediately; she didn't want to lose the tentative frindships she had over her own personal insecurities. Instead, she smiled at Delany's suggestion that they head to the gardens.

"Yes, that would be nice," she replied. "I haven't really had a look round yet. Have you?" Preapring herself for outdoor pursuits, Jera shrugged off her uniform robes and laid them neatly on her bed. Underneath she was wearing a tie-dyed pair of jeans and a bright orange t-shirt with a black star pattern around the hem and neckline. Wondering whether it would be chilly in the gardens, she flung open a wardrobe door and rummaged until she'd found a light denim jacket, which she tied around her waist. "Actually, I havn't explored much at all, yet," Jera told Delany. "Except bits of the library. I love reading. Do you?"

I'll just get my own. I don't know if I'll need them at all by Delany

Delany smiled as she looked at what Jera was wearing.

"I like your clothes. Orange is my favorite color. And I have the same type of pants. I even have them in my trunk." Delany said as she rushed over to her trunk and pulled them out.

She smiled once more and laughed. She folded them up and put them back in her trunk, making sure not to hit her paper bag. She stood up and shurgged off her robes also. Underneath she was wearing faded blue jeans and a yellow baby doll tee.

"I haven't really had a look round yet. Have you?" Jera asked.

"Not really. I was thinking that me and Seamus could do our work out there, but I never got to it. I forgot to ask cause I burnt my fingers. I can explain when we get to the gardens. Maybe we could get some paper. I could teach you a muggle game, if you don't know it. It's called MASH." Delany said as she started for the door.
