The Hills are Alive with the Sound of Music
by Bella Santoro
Bella was in a quiet corner of the common room with her quitar in her lap and her magically altered iPod playing music in her ears. She had spent the last couple of hours studying and doing her homework. It was only a month into school and she already felt like she was a lifetime behind with everything. Not that she was. In fact, Bella was actually ahead in her work, but she felt like she ought to always be doing something.
Studying as much as she did left little room for much else. Actually, she hadn't seen much of her boyfriend since the Opening Feast and wondered if that meant they may not still be an item. Bella wasn't good with figuring out relationships and hoped it simply meant that he was just as busy as she was. Beyond that, though, Bella had little room for anything she enjoyed, including her music.
Which was why she was taking a break and since Ben wasn't around to play with, she decided to let her finger dance across the strings of her guitar. Her soft breathy voice sang to a song she had only just learned over the summer when she had discovered muggle music.
"Heaven's not enough If when you get there... Just another blue And heaven's not enough You think you've found it And it loses you..."
Her fingers moved gracefully along with her words. She played softly so as to not bother others in the commonroom, but anyone around her would have easily heard her. Not that Bella minded. She had long since thrown out the idea of caring how others interpreted her. Her choice of style was evident enough for that.
"You've thought of all there is But not enough And it loses you in a cloud
"there" most everything is nothin' That it seems "where" you see the things you only wanna see
I'd fly away To a higher plane To say words i resist To float away To sigh To breathe.... forget."
Her voice remained steady. If she ever at all needed more emphasis on a word, Bella controlled it with ease. Her Instructor had been most impressed with her over the course of the summer. He had said her abilities had grown since they had first began together two years earlier. He said the same for her guitar playing.
She looked completely relaxed in the corner with her eyes closed and the guitar in her lap. The song was slow and full of beautiful meaning. She loved his singer for his delicate words and elogant melodies.
"But i know the pain Of leaving everything really far behind And if i could cry And if i could live what truth i did then take me there Heaven goodbye"
Bella sang the last note as quietly as she had the first and gently played the very last cord. When she finished, she felt a new sense of energy. Opening her eyes, Bella glanced around and realized that she was the source of entertainment for a couple of people. She grinned at them and gestured to her guitar, "So tell me, Critic, was it any good?"
OOC: Song is called 'Heaven's Not Enough' and it's by Steve Conte.
