Since CoMC is closed...TAG: Prof. K
by Hyana Kamiya
Hyana stood outside the HoH's office. She said that she could come by her office and discuss her puffskein. She was nervous though. What if she found out about her family situation? It wasn't something she wanted to share.
She knocked on the door, and waited for an answer. She really wanted to keep Chiyo, but she couldn't ask her mother. That much she knew. She could ask...maybe her mother would agree if she never sent another owl to the house again. She smiled at that possibility. Maybe talking to Prof. K, as she liked to call her Head of House, would help. Or it could turn into a huge mess. Hyana didn't want to think about that. She pushed her black hair out of her face, pausing to touch her ice blue hair clips. Her sister was with her. And they both were watching over her.\n\n

Kiva sat behind her desk writing. It had been a long while since she had last wrote to her various contacts. Her previous job before becoming a professor had allowed her to travel the world freely, meeting new people and becoming great friends with them. Now, as a professor who taught a subject that required outside help, Kiva was most grateful to have those friends and contacts.
Halfway through her pile of letters, there was a knock on her office door. Glancing up from her position, Kiva stared at her door for a moment, whenever there was a knock, it never ended up being something good. She often wondered why students couldn't come just to have a chat about silly things. Or, even why Tarquin hadn't come out for a nice visit. He was really her only companion amongst the staff members and she was really missing his friendship.
Setting down her quill, Kiva stretched tall to get some of the kinks out. "Enter." She said, her voice sounding as tired as she felt.\n\n

"Enter." She heard Professor K say. Hyana couldn't figure out if she sounded tired, or annoyed. Taking a deep breath, she opened the door with a shaking hand.
"P-professor?" She squeaked as she walked in. The door closed behind her somewhat loudly, making her jump. Calm down Hyana. Please, calm down. She begged herself. "P-professor...you said we could discuss my p-puffskein..." She stood next to the door, not sure if she should sit down.
She decided to sit down. She didn't want to look stupid or scared. Well, more scared than she already looked. She looked up at the Professor. \n\n
Kiva watched the door open slowly and a first year by the name of Hyana Kamiya. Kiva smiled to the girl as she walked into the office. "Yes, that's right." Kiva responded. Again, she had completely forgotten the fact that she was to discuss a way for them to communicate to Hyana's mother without the woman flipping out.
"You're mother's a muggleborn, correct?" Kiva really wasn't asking the question, she already knew what the answer would be and so she continued without waiting for Hyana to respond. "We have many trained owls here at Sonora and any one of them could leave the letter on the stoop, will wait for a reply outside of the house, and then return to the school without your mother really knowing how the letter got there." Kiva paused there for a moment to look at Hyana and then, slowly, she continued.
"Hyana...do you mind my asking about your mother? If she doesn't understand how to communicate with you... is there a reason why she wouldn't want to know?"\n\n
Hyana listened to Professor K, nodding at everything she said. Leaving the letter on the stoop did seem to make a lot of sense. That wouldn't make her mother freak. That sounded good. She was about to open her mouth to ask if they could do that, but Professor K asked about her mother. Hyana's breath caught in her throat for a second, then she regained control.
"M-my mother..." She whispered. "She doesn't really...approve of magic. To her, I'm just a freak. Asking about some magical creature she's never heard of, seeing owls flying at her, I don't think that would make her feel any better. I just don't want to scare her." She had told the truth...somewhat. I mean, I didn't exactly lie. Hyana thought to herself. I don't wanna scare her...I don't wanna pay the price. She bit her lip and twirled her hair around her finger.
"M-maybe we could leave the letter on the stoop like you suggested? I don't think that would scare her." She muttered. She made a mental note to herself: get over the stuttering problem. Avoiding the professor's eyes, she wondered if she was allowed to leave. It was getting pretty hot.\n\n
Kiva watched Hyana closely. It seemed that students now days knew how to handle their emotions far better than back in her days as a student. Back then, if you were miserable, you showed it, angry, you showed it, unhappy, it showed. But, most of these students were calculating, controlled. Very unlike a child that Kiva wished they would be.
"She doesn't approve?" Kiva questioned. How could she not approve? A person who was muggle should be proud to have a child of magic, there was so much someone with a magical ability could do. "I'm sorry to hear that of your mother. To treat you differently simply because you can do great things. Hyana, never think so poorly of yourself for something you cannot control. You are a witch, know that and be proud of that. Either your mother will come around and accept it, or she won't. There's nothing that can be done about that."
Kiva smiled politely at Hyana before continuing about the owls. "Go ahead and write the letter to your mother, or, if you'd like, I can write one to her. I'll give it to a specially trained owl who will drop it on the stoop. If you write the letter, be sure to explain to her to leave her response on the stoop. Once she does that, the owl will pick it up and bring it back to us. It's a simple enough process that we've used in the past for parents who are weary of owls. Does that sound alright with you?"\n\n

"She doesn't approve?" Professor K asked her. She shook her head, trying to stop herself from crying. She had no idea what her HoH was thinking of her at that moment. Then Professor K said something that made her feel so much better. Like she belonged.
"I'm sorry to hear that of your mother. To treat you differently simply because you can do great things. Hyana, never think so poorly of yourself for something you cannot control. You are a witch, know that and be proud of that. Either your mother will come around and accept it, or she won't. There's nothing that can be done about that." For the first time, Hyana looked her in the eyes. No one had ever said anything like that to her before. No one had ever cared. Then she asked about the letter again, and Hyana nodded.
"That sounds great Professor. I'll write it. I'll send it to you right away when I get an answer." She sat up a little straighter. "And Professor...arigato. Thank you."\n\n
