Ebony though she was in the middle of the best dream she had ever had. The Aladren common room was entered via the library! She wasn't going to have to travel far to find reading material.
'Perhaps i should get some books to read at night', Ebony thought. After she shrugged away the thought Ebony looked around the common room.
A lot of students were congregating around chatting to friends. Ebony suddenly felt lonely. Hyana was talking to a boy and his cat and she didn't want to intrude if Hyana was making another friend.
Ebony noticed a few girls were heading out of the common room and she followed after them.
"Um, excuse me. Where do i sleep?" Ebony called out praying one of the girls would be kind enough to point it out.\n\n
Hyana ran over to her friend Ebony. She waited for her to finish talking to one of those girls, then said, "Hi Ebony, sorry that I left. I was talking to Paul." Hyana smiled and looked at the bulliten board. "Hey, do you want to sign up for the band? It sounds like fun?" She said quietly. She knew Ebony probably would say no.\n\n
"I'm not very good at singing, but if you want to join up i'll try too." Ebony said. It seemed to mean a lot to Hyana even though she had talked quietly.
"Who's Paul? Is he in our year?" It would be interesting to make a new friend. Especially if Hyana thought he would be ok.\n\n
Hyana smiled, that's the answer she wanted to hear. "I think it would be a lot of fun. I'll sign up later." She paused for a second, then said, "Paul's that guy I was talking to. He seemed troubled, so I took a chance talking to someone before they spoke to me." She laughed. "I don't think he liked me much though. I think our dorm's up here." Hyana said, pointing.\n\n
Ebony had let Hyana lead her to the dorm room as she had no idea how to get there. Ebony was happy to see her belongings were already there, so figuring she would unpack the followuing day she pulled out her pyjamas and groaned.
Her mum had packed her favourite pyjamas from home, which she hadn't wanted to bring as... well... they were bright pink, with a fluffy teaddy bear on the front, with a big smile and the printed words, 'I love bear hugs.' The bottoms we also covered in white and dark pink hearts.
Ebony decided she should of burnt them, or hidden them deeper in her wardrobe at home.
Looking up at Hyana she waited for the giggles.\n\n
Hyana sat on the bed that her stuff was on. She didn't bring much, only because she didn't have much to bring. She pulled an alarm clock out and placed it next to her. She slept late all the time at home and got in trouble for it; her mom usually slapped her as a punishment. Hyana rubbed her cheek as she remembered the pain. Then she pulled out an old stuffed baby tanuki doll. A tanuki was a racoon demon, and was adorable. Hyana felt embarrassed about bringing it, but her sister gave it to her the day before both her and her father perished in that horrible car crash.
Hyana felt eyes on her and knew Ebony must have seen the Tanuki doll. Blushing she turned around to see Ebony looking slightly embarressed as well, holding up some pajamas. They were bright pink, and had teddy bears on it, and it said bear hugs.
Hyana laughed lightly, and realized that must hurt Ebony's feelings. "Gomenasai, Ebony! I just thought that those were cute, that's all. I didn't mean to laugh!" Hyana apologized, bowing quickly. She clutched the Tanuki doll to her chest, and smiled.\n\n

The sound of Hyana's laugh had made Ebony cringe. The quick apology, however, had made her much happier. Once Ebony had gotten over her own embarrasment and started to put on her pyjamas, she noticed Hyana holding a small... well it looked like a teddy bear, in her hands.
"What's that?" Ebony asked intrugued. It was very unusual and she had never seen anything like it before. \n\n
Oh, this thing?, and we're in the first year girl's dorm
by Hyana
"What's that?" Hyana heard Ebony ask. It took her a while to figure out what Ebony was talking about. Blushing slightly, she cast her gaze away from Ebony.
"Th-this? It's a Tanuki doll. A Tanuki is a racoon youkai, demon, but is very tame and cute. They mean good luck. My dad got it for me when I was very small." Hyana pushed her hand through her hair and felt the ice blue flower shaped hair clips that kept her bangs out of her face. She figured she might as well explain those too. "These hair clips were from my sister. I didn't wear them at first, I told her they were too girly, and were meant for a baby. That was my birthday. The next day, both my sister and my father died in a car crash." Hyana felt something wet run down her cheeks. This was the first time she had told anyone outside her family about what had happened, and it felt really nice.
"Ever since then I've had my Tanuki doll with me, if I'm staying overnight somewhere. And I've worn these hair clips ever since, because I feel that they connect me to my sister. I can feel her watching over me, even now. Gomenasai!" She apologized again, wiping tears off of her cheeks. "I'm supposed to be happy! I shouldn't be burdening you with all of this information. It's the first I've told anyone. I trust you." Hyana smiled. Somehow she knew that she and Ebony could be Chi-yo no Tomo: Friends Everlasting.
Ebony stood amazed in her spot, that somebody could cry so openly. She had never been able to cry, her grandparents had made sure of that. Even as a baby she was locked in a cupboard or smacked with a broom if there was even a hint of a sniffle. They called it 'beating out the unpure blood'.
Before she could even react Hyana started crying and Ebony had flew across the room and started to hug her.
"Hey, please don't cry. I don't know what to do." Ebony whispered. The fact that Hyana trusted her after so short an aquaintance was... wonderful. Daunting but wonderful.
"I'm sorry about your dad and sister. You must of loved them a lot. I know i would be lost if i lost my dad." Ebony reached out hesitantly and touched the Tanuki. "Besides, friends are here to burden them with things. Who else would you tell." Ebony was sure she heard Hyana giggle slightly, but it could of just been her.
Ebony pulled away and pushed her long black hair back over her shoulder. It had fallen forward when she was hugging Hyana. Ebony then used the edge of her pyjama top and wiped the tears off Hyanas face.
"I wish i had a Tanuki doll off my family." Ebony sighed, it was hard leaving her parents and coming to a school where she knew there would be purebloods, who hated her for having a muggle born mother. Having a doll of some sort might have been comforting.
"Now what embarrasing pyjamas have you got? Its only fair i can laugh at yours too." Ebony smiled trying to banish unhappy thoughts away. It was their first night here after all. \n\n
Hyana felt so much better when Ebony hugged her. She felt really stupid, she hadn't even known Ebony for more than a day! And she had already acted like a complete baby! But Ebony didn't seem to mind.
"Besides, friends are here to burden them with things. Who else would you tell?" She heard Ebony say, and in fact, she did laugh. It was the truth. Hyana was confused though. This had been the first time she had cried since she could remember. Crying in her house...just wasn't permitted. She remembered the last time she cried in front of her mother. She was on crutches for almost a month. Nobody had ever treated her kindly before. Of course, no one she knew was like Ebony.
When she felt better, Ebony asked if she had any embarrassing pajamas, saying it was only fair for her to see them since she showed Hyana hers. Hyana laughed at this and went to her suitcase.
"These are pretty ugly, so be warned. My mom packed them, trying to embarrass me or something. I don't know what she was thinking." She explained.
She pulled out bright yellow footsie pajamas. They had smiley faces all over them, all with different expressions. The front read, "Don't mess with me, I have mood swings." Hyana waited for Ebony to fall on the ground from laughter, she knew she would.\n\n
Ebony couldn't of helped it. She sat down on Hyana's bed and laughed.
"I'm sorry Hyana." Ebony managed to get out between gasps for breath. "They're honestly not as bad as some i've had, but oh Merlin. Really parents should be shot!"
Ebony leaned closer to Hyana as though in conspiracy.
"My mum once brought me these, bright turquiose pyjamas with white bunnies being pulled from hats all over it. I think dad helped me thought and accidently bined them when mum went away to visit her mother for a weekend." Ebony leaned back amoung Hyana's pillows.
"You know, my bed doesn't look as comfortable as this one." Ebony mentioned thoughtfully then smiled brightly at Hyana.
Ebony opened her mouth, shut it, opened it again and shut it. Finally she worked up the courage and asked Hyana the burning question.
"Hyana... would you plait my hair please." Ebony asked twirling a long black strand around her finger. "It's far too long to sleep with it loose, it gets caught under me and yanks my head around. My mum usually does it and i can't do it myself. Look." Ebony pulled her waist length black hair over her shoulder and indicated how long it was.\n\n
Hyana tilted her head to the side. Plait? She felt really stupid, but she never focused on her hair.
"I'm sorry...but I don't understand." She said at almost a whisper. "At home, I didn't really pay attention to my hair. My mother said it was useless..." She shifted her weight uncomfortably. "But if you explain it to me, I can try."
She stayed quiet for a moment and looked around. "Shouldn't there be more people here? I mean, we can't be the only first year girls. I saw more as we came to the Common Room. I wonder where they're at..." Hyana said what had been bothering her for a while. It was impossible. They couldn't be the only first year girls. It would be nice, but it was impossible.
OOC: Hey, other first year girls, you're perfectly welcome to join in the thread you know. We don't want to keep you out.\n\n
When Hyana had said she didn't know what a plait was Ebony was stumped. She had never been able to master it herself, hence the reason her hair was always hanging half in her face all of the time.
"Don't worry Hyana. I can't do them either and i have the hair to try. Could you just, twist it and tie my bobble at the end?" Ebony held up the black bobble and waved it slightly.
"It would work the same and keep it out of my way." Ebony assured Hyana. "Then we can see if one of the other girls in our dorm knows how to do a plait and she could teach us both!" \n\n
Hyana nodded and did what Ebony said to do. She twisted her hair and tied it up carefully. "Ebony...you're hair is really pretty." Hyana commented. She finished and said, "There! You know what would look nice? Maybe you could tie your hair in a pony tail, then fold it in half and hook it together with a clip. Then you could a small bit of your hair fall down in the front on each side of your face."
Hyana looked at the door to the dorm and said out loud, "I wonder where all the other first year girls are. I swear I saw more at the feast. Or am I going crazy?" She turned her gaze back to Ebony, and waited for an answer.\n\n
Ebony listened to Hyana's description of a hairstyle that might suit her. Then replied,
"To be honest, i never really bother with my hair. My father likes me to grow it long so i grow it long. To be honest it is a nuisance but i wouldn't cut it for the world. We could try the style for christmas. Do it up special for then. It is too much hassle to tie it up like that everyday."
Ebony crawled off Hyanas bed whilst Hyana was looking at the door of the dorm and crawled under the covers of her bed.
"Perhaps they can't find there way here, or they ate too much sugar today and are still bouncing around the common room." Ebony smiled at Hyana as she turned around and looked at her. "Trust me you're not crazy there were a few more girls in Cascade Hall."
Ebony snuggled down under the warm blanket and laid her head on her pillow turning to face Hyana on her bed.
"I can't wait for lessons to start! Can you? I hope we have Potions first!"\n\n
Hyana nodded at everything Ebony said, suddenly realizing how tired she was. She heard Ebony say she wanted to do potions first, and turned toward her in her bed.
"Potions does sound interesting. I, myself, am looking forward to transfiguration. I figure that I'd be good at it...seeing as I can change in any enviorment to become invisible. Sorry, that was depressing." She said with a laugh.\n\n
