Alistair Johnson wasn’t a nervous kind of person, it just in his nature to reveal those sorts of feelings to people, himself included. Yet the voice in the back of his mind could only be labelled as uncertainty as he sat in an armchair in the common room one evening, waiting for Rupert Princeton’s younger brother to return from dinner.
He was fully aware that if Leo Princeton had wanted to play on the team, he would have expressed this by writing his name on the Quidditch sign up sheet or turning up to the tryouts on Saturday. But Alistair tried not to think about these things - perhaps the older boy just needed a little encouragement and it was therefore the Captain’s job to convince him just how desperately he was needed.
After his conversation with Liac at breakfast, Alistair knew that Crotalus would be combining with Teppenpaw so there really wasn’t any pressing need for him to recruit more students. Even if Leo agreed to join the team, Crotalus still wouldn’t have enough to play by themselves. However, just because his team would be Teppalus again this year, that didn’t make Ali any less determined to put up a good fight against the other teams on the pitch. He wanted the best players possible on the team and he was keen for a slightly older team as opposed to the largely first and second year mix that he had captained previously.
Having browsed through the Quidditch teams in old yearbooks and relocated the list of potential players to recruit that Professor Skies had suggested at the start of his first year, Alistair had come to the conclusion the Leo Princeton was his best bet. The older boy had played in the position of Keeper for a few years in the past so was clearly experienced and this was an attribute that Alistair felt Teppalus had significantly lacked in last term.
"Excuse me, Mr. Princeton, could I have a word?" Alistair said, making sure to be especially polite, when he saw the sixth year step into the common room, swiftly getting up from his seat. Once he felt that he had Leo's attention, he began. "As you know, the Crotalus Quidditch team is sufficiently lacking in numbers. I am aware that you have played in the past so we could really benefit from your presence on the Pitch." He hoped that his fellow Crotali might have some sense of house pride. "Of course, it is highly likely that we will be combining teams with Teppenpaw again but that shouldn’t mean that Crotalus doesn’t need to bother recruiting as many players as we can. We have a better chance of winning matches this year so I really hope to have the best team possible which would mean picking the most skilled and experienced players such as yourself.”
The second year paused for a moment. “Of course, I do not need a definite answer now but I hope that you might consider joining us." Alistair wasn’t quite sure what he’d do if Leo Princeton said no.
OOC: Whilst Alistair hopes that his words put a lot of pressure on Leo and sincerely hopes that he agrees to join the team, as an author I have no expectations for him to say yes considering he hasn’t shown an interest in being on the team for the last two years at least.
