A belated Christmas Gift [Tag Charlie] by Dmitry Talsky

Dmitry was glad that school was starting again he was tired of hanging around Dorian. The Holidays were over and he was back to being his annoying little self with all his happy Pecari friends. That suited the elder boy much better then actually having to deal with him. Dmitry had more important things to do, and more important people to talk to and one was Charlotte.

She had of course left during midterm and they had yet to talk since they had come back. He exited his dorm with a thin box tucked in his black dress slacks, he wore a light blue polo, and around his neck was the necklace with the Talsky Crest and Motto on it that Dorian had given to him for Christmas.

He came out of his dorm and was pleasantly surprised to see that no one but the person he was seeking was sitting in the commons. Straitening his hair and clothing he made his way over to her with a smile on his face. “Hello Pokcacha.” He said in his thick accent. “I hope you had a well…” He paused and shook his head. Sometimes he still had some problems with the English language. “I mean a good midterm.” He finished as he sat next to her wondering it was odd he had gotten a Christmas Gift so soon after getting together.

He shifted anxiously but then calmed himself down a bit, it didn’t matter if it was too soon, if she thought it was he could just say it was a Russian tradition or something he was sure the girl didn’t know that much about his culture. Of course if things went smoothly until the end of school he would be inviting her to spend some time at his Manor in Russia this summer so that might end soon enough.

A belated reply by Charlotte Abbott

(OOC: Sorry this took so long!)

Coming back to school was almost a relief. There had been a lot that had changed at home - all gradual, none of it sudden - and it somehow didn't feel quite like home anymore. For example, Charlotte had never gotten on all that well with her oldest brother, Julian, but now he was actually nice to her. That didn't change the fact that he had turned into a real loser, the sort that hadn't gone to college and still lived at home wih his parents and 'helped out' around to hotel to pay his rent, which, as far as Charlie understood it, meant having a regular smoke with the bell boys by the staff entrance. Oliver had always been the smart one, but Julian could have got a football scholarship anywhere he wanted. Charlie didn't get the appeal of staying at home doing nothing.

Then there was Oliver, who had always looked out for Charlie and seemed like the smart, sensible type who somehow still managed to be good at sports despite being a true nerd. He's spent midterm not doing a very good job of hiding the fact that he was out doing Charlie-didn't-want-to-know-what with Lutece for most of the holiday. Ew.

Her parents were pretty much the same, she supposed, but Charlie had always been the youngest, and the only girl, and succeeded in gaining far more of their attention that either of her brothers. Even when she'd gone to Sonora they'd still managed to take her to ballet classes in the holidays and make space for sleepovers. They seemed to have now decided that Charlotte was old enough to take care of herself, and barely paid her any notice while she'd been there. She guessed that they'd finally gotten used to not having them around. That's part of the reason for her following Oliver to their Uncle Raymond's during midterm. Oliver had been there loads before but Charlie'd never been allowed when they were young, and as she'd got older she had no reason to stay with a potions-obsessed bachelor. Still, staying with Oliver and Uncle Ray had been more fun than staying at home, and Charlie'd had the opportunity to talk to her uncle about being pureblood, and if he knew anything about the Talsky family, and she'd had a truly interesting time of it.

With all of that, coming back to the safe, secure and familiar commonroom was a blessing in itself. Charlotte was snuggled in a gray knitted dress that she'd snazzed up with bright blue leggings and a beaded necklace to match, idly flicking through a recent copy of Teen Witch. The room was quiet, practically deserted, so when Dmitry came into the room, Charlie nticed him instantly. Placing the magazine down (and inwardly hoping he didn't think she was superficial for reading it), she offered him a beaming smile as he came to join her.

"It was okay," she replied to his question about midterm. She briefly considered saying she'd missed him, but that felt a bit mushy. He probably knew she'd missed spending time with him without her having to say it in an awkward blurt. She took his hand instead, and that felt much better. "How was yours?"

A blanking on the title reply by Dmitry

Dmitry smiled at the girl when she said her midterm was okay, that meant it hadn’t been great. The simple fact that she hadn’t had an amazing time without brightened the young Russian’s mood immensely. Sure it was selfish but why would he want his girlfriend to have a great time without him? When she took his hand he nodded and leaned back.

“Mine was rather dull.” He admitted. “My father think it’s makes us stronger men if we are away from home on Christmas.” The answer was partially true but Dmitry knew his father didn’t care if he saw either of his sons ever. The only time Vladimir Talsky paid any attention to the boys was when they were in trouble.

He shrugged off the dark thoughts of his father and smiled at Charlie. “I got you a gift, since I had to order it through my Step-Mother it came too late for Christmas. So I held onto it until I could give it to you personally.” He said with a smile as he pulled out the long black slender box that was tied with a red ribbon. Inside was a bracelet that held the Talsky crest, and long with the Latin motto Fidelis usque ad mortem, which meant Faithful even to death.

“It is proper in Russia for the girl to wear something that is special to her boyfriend.” He said with a smile. “I do hope you like it.”

Who needs titles anyway? by Charlotte

Charlie felt sorry for Dmitry that he'd had to stay at school over the holiday. Charlie'd only taken that option once, and that was because her parents were going to be away, anyway. Being in a busy hotel with a bunch of super-stressed staff wasn't ever fun, but when it came with glares directed at her in her parents' absence it wasn't worth the hassle. If Dmitry's father thought being away from family would make his sons stronger men, he obviously wasn't aware of the amazing hot chocolate the prairie elves provided.

"I got you a gift," Dmitry said, instantly brightening Charlotte's composure. It wasn't the gift itself that had her in a good mood (although she did like receiving presents, but who didn't?) but the fact that Dmitry had been thinking of her, and liked her enough to buy her a gift. "I held onto it until I could give it to you personally," he said.

Charlotte had to let go of his hand to accept the slender box and to open it. She'd never been given jewelry before, and gave the bracelet a good, delighted look, paying attention to the Talsky crest that was on it. Her Latin was rusty, but she knew Fidelis had something to do with being loyal, and ad mortem meant until death, so she could get the general idea. The fact that this was something from the Talsky family that was given her to wear was still dawning - that was something pretty huge.

"I do hope you like it," Dmitry said.

"Oh, I love it," Charlotte said, taking the bracelet from the box. She held it out to Dmitry and pulled back the dress sleeve from her wrist. "Could you help me put it on?" she asked; she wanted to be wearing it immediately. If it was important to Dmitry then it was important to her. Besides, she was perfectly happy for everyone to know she was his girlfriend - she'd never have guessed that she'd enjoy being exclusive so much.

Not us! by Dmitry

“Oh I love it.” Charlie said causing Dmitry to smile. When she asked to help her put it on she grabbed the bracelet and clipped it around her wrist carefully. Once he was done he smiled at it and allowed her to look at it on her wrist. “I’m glad you like it.” He said with a small nod. He was glad she liked it was the first gift he had given anyone in his life, and it would have spoiled the whole process if she disliked it.

He ran his hand through his hair and leaned back. He wondered if it was too soon to ask her to come to Russia for a month in the summer, maybe her parents wouldn’t allow her, but on the other hand they might. Deciding the best way to go about it was to ask about her plans for summer; he smiled and looked over at her. “So do you have any plans for summer as of yet?” He asked with a raised eyebrow. That seemed the safest way to go about things; it was a question that people asked in normal conversation all the time. Of course Charlie might know him well enough that he didn’t ask questions just for the heck of it, but he never knew.

As he waited for her answer he put an arm around her shoulder and hugged her to his chest. He liked Charlie she was soothing to the normally high-strung Russian. To be honest with his self he didn’t miss Russia or Durmstrang nearly as much when she was around. Of course he would never admit that to anyone, probably not even Charlie as it would make him look weak.

No sir! by Charlie

Charlie admired the bracelet once it was firmly attached to her wrist; she was adamant it was going to stay there, too. Wow, she felt really honored to be wearing some jewelry, given to her by Dmitry, bearing his family's crest. And all she'd gotten him was a really nice writing quill so he could keep in touch with her over the holidays (which she wasn't going to run and get just now - she'd wait for an appropriate lull in the conversation). Though by the sounds of it, he wouldn't need to write all that much. He was asking about her summer, and Charlie knew that usually meant something a bit different.

"I don't have any plans," Charlie said, smiling as she snuggled into Dmitry's chest. "Well," she corrected, "I'm usually in a ballet show at the end of the summer but even with Lita's help I'm not in very good shape, so I don't know whether I'll even pass the audition." She tried not to be too miserable about this - yes, she'd always loved to dance, but there were other things in her life. If missing ballet meant spending more time with Dmitry then Charlie really wasn't complaining. Of course she'd have to convince her parents (which, judging on their behavior to her at midterm, wouldn't be hard) to let her go, and she'd have to convince Julian and Oliver not to hunt Dmitry down and kill him... that one would be trickier. Older brothers could be annoyingly protective, and Charlotte had two of them. Yet Oliver hadn't caused any harm to Dmitry yet (Charlotte tried to reassure herself this wasn't solely because it would mean he'd lose a Beater for the Crotalus team).

"How about you?" Charlotte asked, wriggling under Dmitry's arm until she was comfortable. "Any plans for the summer?"

It's because we are that cool! by Dmitry

Dmitry smirked a bit as Charlie snuggled into his chest. He couldn’t help but enjoy being close to her. The girls at Durmstrang would have never cuddled with a boy no matter what. Plus Charlie was a sweet girl he listened to her talk about a summer ballet class. That sounded like fun he guessed. He liked watching Ballet in Saint Petersburg but performing seemed dull. "How about you? Any plans for the summer?"" Charlotte asked. Dmitry chuckled a bit as she wiggled till she seemed content.

“We don’t have to sit like this if you are uncomfortable.” He said looking down at her. She looked adorable snuggled into him. “As for this summer I’ll be spending the Season in Saint Petersburg.” He said with a smile. The summer Season was the most active season for all Russian purebloods, there was plenty to see and do most days.

“Actually I was hoping you would come and spend the Season with me there. It would be my Step-mother, and Dorian. My step-mother would arrange for you to have a Lady’s Companion of the finest breeding, and all expenses would be paid for.” He smiled. “We could go see the Saint Petersburg Ballet, and about a hundred different things.” He was really excited about going back to Russia he loved his homeland and couldn’t wait to return.

You said it! by Charlie

"We don’t have to sit like this if you are uncomfortable," Dmitry said.

Charlie stopped wriggling. "No, I like it!" she declared, smiling. Being cuddled close to Dmitry on the sofa was just about as comfortable as she could hope to get. In fact she was surprisingly comfortable around Dmitry - while she always wanted to look nice for him, she found she was less self-conscious of her appearance when he was there. It was relaxing, being herself, and listening to Dmitry talk about his plans for the summer. Charlie loved the way he said 'Season' like a true socialite.

"Wait, you want me to be there?" she repeated, looking up at him, inwardly congratualting herself on guessing correctly. That would certainly be an amazing holiday, she thought. She didn't really know what Lady's Companion was, but she was eager to find out. "That sounds amazing," Charlotte said wistfully. She would love to go, but she was trying to stay realistic. If he was willing to pay for her then her parents would have questions, but at least they couldn't argue that they couldn't afford it.

Looking at her bracelet, Charlie said, "I'd love to come, but I'll have to get permission first, and that won't be easy. No offense-" she added quickly, because she didn't want Dmitry to think her parents would have personal problems with him, "- they're just really strict with me because I'm the youngest." And because they're miserable poeple, Charlie thought.

"But I'll try. I mean, I'll really try." She looked at Dmitry again. "It would be amazing to spend all that time with you." And to see the ballet - Lita would be speechless. Charlie immediately thought of taking her best friend with her, but that just wasn't done - she couldn't invite Lita along, too. It would be rude. Besides, she got the impression Lita didn't like Dmitry all that much.

Of course I did, I'm awesome by Dmitry

When Charlie declared that she liked cuddling with him. It was relaxing and Dmitry didn’t mind if anyone saw them. Sure the boys at Durmstrang would have made fun of him but here it seemed like most people here stayed far away from the Russian. Plus the boys here seemed to be wimpy and whiney so it wasn’t like the fourth year was actually scared of them. He smiled down at her as she asked. “Wait you want me to be there?”

He laughed a bit and nodded. “I would like you to come, it’ll be nice to not only be stuck with Dorian.” He said. His half brother annoyed him so badly during the summers. Of course Dorian would be spending half the Season in England with his mother’s side, while Dorian spent the whole Season in Russia.

When she mentioned that she would need permission first he nodded slowly. Of course his step mother Abigail would take care of that. “Abigail, my step-mother would of course write to your parents and explain everything.” He smiled and patted her shoulder. “There was no offense taken my dear, I would expect nothing less of your parents to be leery about sending their daughter to another country with a boy they’ve never met.”

When she said she try Dmitry smiled. “If your parents don’t want you to spend the whole summer you can come for a couple weeks. Really whatever works for you and them.” He said with a smile, even if she couldn’t come for the whole summer a couple of weeks wouldn’t be bad.
