Captain Helena Layne

November 06, 2009 7:56 PM
Her brain was a very human brain, with a good understanding of emotional crisis, and would thus allow Helena to enjoy a certain amount of self-destructive behavior when she needed it. Since it was also a Crotalus brain, though, it drew the line at things that could damage her career prospects.

Because her brain also knew her pretty well, though, it had taken care not to allow looking responsible on a resume she hadn't even written into the be all and the end all when it came to reasons not to throw the Crotalus captainacy out of the window. Instead, it had directed her attention to what, exactly, her 'half-sister' had done when put into a similar position to her own. Emily had spent her whole life working to be Head Girl and Quidditch captain, and she'd thrown the whole thing away just to spite Daddy. She'd been weak, even childish. If Helena was better than her, she would suck her temper up and take care of her responsibilities.

With that thought in mind, and with a slight pang for both of the previous year's Geoffries, Helena posted the neatly written Quidditch sign-up sheet in the center of the House notice board the morning after her arrival at Sonora, just as she was expected to. Then she went off in search of her breakfast.

Oliver Abbott

Sonora was sometimes an incredibly confusing place - so it always had been, and always would be, as far as Oliver could tell. There were just two constants for him. One was potions, which, even with numerous professors and an incredibly diverse range of partners, Oliver always managed to enjoy. The other was Quidditch. Oliver had tried out for the Crotalus team in his first year. True, he'd only made reserve that year, but ever since he'd been a starting player. He was good - the team was good. They played well together. Mostly. Their seeker was... well, Oliver wasn't going to say anything outloud, but she did let a third year catch the Snitch in their last game. Plus she was one of the girls in the year below, and almost without exception they were creepy. The exception, of course, was Renaye - she could hit a Bludger, that was for sure. Yet as Oliver scanned the list he didn't see anyone's name upon it yet except Helena's own. The list must have just gone up - it would fill up soon.

Without hesitation, Oliver added his own details beneath hers: Oliver Abbott, sixth year, Chaser.

Only after he'd signed his name did Oliver pause to read the notice properly. He wrote the date of the practise on the back of his hand, and considered that so long as last year's team all signed up, and they found a better Seeker, absolutely nothing would stand in their way this year. Not Aladren with their precision calculations of precisely which angle to throw the ball, nor Teppenapw (even though Hannah was Captain, and Oliver secretly thought she might be better at Quidditch than him), nor Pecari with their sheer determination. Crotalus had a good team, and they were going to win.

Lutece Anthony

She was on the team, she was off the team. She was on the team, she was off the team. Lutece Anthony had signed up and not signed up and regretted doing both. But finally, it was seeing Oliver's name on the parchment that made her sign her own name.

Theodore Manzana

Theodore Manzana walked up to the board with surprise written all over his face. The Quidditch sign ups had been up long enough and saw that hardly anyone had sighed up. “This will not do.” He tutted as he dug around in his school bag. He grinned wickedly when he found the large quill his Mama had given him and the bottle of green ink.

He had laughed when his Irish mother had handed him the green ink she was so proud of her heritage but it wasn’t Theodore’s only heritage. His mother was a pureblood from Ireland, while his father was a pureblood from El Salvador. They had been an odd match and the Manzanas had disliked the match for a long time until Theodore had come along, now they adored Ashley Manzana. He dipped his quill in the green ink and wrote with a flourish.

Ethan Valentine

In his room at home, there was a war going on on the walls. One half of the room was coated in bright yellow and maroon with a giant prarie dog blanket on the bottom bunk. The other side(the better side) was bright red and silver with rattlesnake insignias all over. At school, the battle happened on the Quidditch field. Ethan and Elliot both had a healthy competitive streak and the fact that Ethan was Keeper and Elliot was a Chaser made it feel like they were battling one on one. It was awesome. Teppenpaw was going down this year. With a grin, he found a pen and scrawled his name on the sign-up sheet.
