Geoffrey Spindler

November 13, 2008 7:54 AM
It was a little strange, wearing the badge of a Quidditch Captain. Geoffrey had spent a lot of time looking at it since it had come in the post with his letter regarding the books he was going to need that year, and Stephen had been suitably jealous, while his aunt had made a fuss of him - all despite knowing that it was almost a certainty, because he had, after all, been the Assistant Quidditch Captain for some time now.

Still, it was strange not to have Jennifer here as Quidditch Captain. Which might have been why Geoffrey didn't remember to put up the Sign-Up sheet until he'd heard people talking about having signed up for their house teams in other Houses. In a rush of embarrassment, Geoffrey had retreated from the Cascade Hall where he'd overheard the talk, and sped back to his dorm, ignoring Adam completely in his search to find some suitable parchment, a quill and some ink.

But it was done now, at least. He looked over it again to be sure that it looked alright, and blew on a bit of ink that didn't look quite dry yet. The ink ran a little in response and Geoffrey screwed up his face, feeling frustrated with himself for his own impatience and for being late in doing this. He took a deep breath, and let it out slowly. Everything would be alright. Everything would be fine. Nothing was going to go wrong (expect that ink, and it wasn't even that bad and people might not even notice).

Well, unless he didn't post it on the House Notice Board soon.

Geoffrey - properly noticing that Adam was there finally made a hasty comment about having to go and bounded down the corridor and down the stairs. There was one thing to his massive growth spurts in the past few years - loss of weight, long legs. Wonderful really. He even imagined that his mother might somehow be at least a little satisfied with him now, but he quickly quashed the thought before it could go any further.

The Sign-Up sheet went up on the noticeboard quickly, and Geoffrey stood back to examine the effect. It said:

Quidditch Sign-Ups

Team spots are open for the Crotalus Quidditch Team. Returning players will be favoured, but don't let that stop you trying out anyhow! The more reserves we've got, the more prepared we will be in any eventuality. Second year students and up.

Oliver Abbott

Despite the fact that when he flew he seemed to run into Lutece more often than chance could account for, Quidditch was still one of Oliver's favorite pasttimes. The team and practises would feel odd without Jen, but then Geoff had been sharing the running of practices long enough that there wouldn't be that much of a difference.

Either way, as soon as Oliver noticed the Quidditch sign-up sheet had arrived in the commons he headed over to add his name to it. He'd been lucky enough to have a place on the team for the past couple of years, and smiled inwardly when he read that returning players would be favoured. Each Captian tended to have different rules for that.

Wasting no more time, Oliver headed up to his dorm to retrieve a quill and some ink. Arriving back at the list, he added his details in untidy scrawl.

Earl Valentine

The handwriting was different. That was the first thing he noticed about the new sign-up sheet. And the ink had run in spots. He'd miss Jen. She was a good team captain. Geoff was doing fine as Assistant, but he was still peeved that the younger guy got the job over him, but Earl had his 15 minutes of being a baby. Now he just had to concentrate on being a good keeper and kicking butt in his last year at Sonora.

Earl took the self-inking quill from his pocket (he hated inkwells) and jotted his name down on the list for the last time. At least Lily was here to ruin his mood this time.

Helena Layne

Once her textbooks had been replaced on their shelf to her satisfaction, Helena grabbed a novel from its place on her nightstand and headed down to the common room. She usually did her homework in her room, but sometimes liked to spend her free time around people. Having a single for the first time in her life was wonderful, but it could also be a bit lonely, especially right after she got back from a trip to see the family. Lavinia made wretched company even on good days, but being alone again after summer still felt odd.

Before she picked a chair to read in, she saw a new notice on the board and went to see it. There wasn't much news in Sonora, but students were held accountable for knowing the news there was. Seeing that it was the Quidditch list, she went back up to her dorm long enough to get a quill before going directly back down to sign up for the new, Geoffrey-lead team.

Helena Layne - Year 5 - Chaser

That done, she put away her quill and settled into the most comfortable-looking chair she saw unfilled to read her book with the common room movement and talk as background noise.

Josh and Renaye Warren

November 15, 2008 5:35 PM
The summer, as always, was packed full with Quidditch. Josh and Renaye had teamed up with Irene over the summer and flown as much as possible. All three were planning on either returning or trying out to a team so practice was held daily, not that they minded. Irene had the brilliant idea of using water balloons as Quaffles and bludgers, which made the summer heat a little more enjoyable. What took away from the summer was the lack of a certain Floridian girl. Josh had sent a few invitations to the Ciders for a reunion of the trio, but it seemed the Ciders wanted their daughter to keep her travels a little farther south this year.

The twins kept plenty busy with the League team, whose returning captain made sure he kept the returning players in shape. The consistent drills were guaranteed to have the players red in the face. It all paid off though. Their team had made it to finals once more, they had been so close, so close to winning again, but the Lansing team had made a big comeback over the previous year and managed to find a fantastic seeker. Not that Lynnie was a bad seeker, she was just a little easily distracted from time to time...

Renaye had plenty of fun regardless. Joe had decided that he wanted her to be his favorite teammate. Not that she minded that much. The only person who seemed to mind was Josh. Him and his protective ways... Joe was nice to everyone, including Josh. After the loss at states, Joe had been the one to rally the team together for their epic comeback the following year. He had given her a suspicious wink when he mentioned the blast the team was going to have at the end-of-season dinner/dance, which went awesome, but nothing too exiciting occured (besides harmless glances from across the room).

The twins entered the common room, both blue and green eyes falling on the sign-up sheet immediately. With a look from the Renaye, they both lengthened their stride, arriving at the board not moments later. By the time they had both stepped away, the paper had two more added to the list:

Josh Warren, 3rd, Beater
Renaye Warren, 3rd, Beater

Alexis Ashwood

The Quidditch sign up stared at her. And stared. And stared. Alexis passed by it quite a few times. Each time, more and more people had signed up. It was when she saw Renaye and Josh's name on the board that she stopped in front of it.

Renaye was a roommate who interested her. She wasn't the proper kind of friend that her mother wanted her to have, but Alexis respected her. She knew how to stand up for herself and what she believed it. Now that took a bit of courage. Being able to hang out with the Warren twins was a good enough reason to sign up.

Alexis just wouldn't admit that she had enjoyed Quidditch a lot last year.

Taking her quill, she signed her name and position.

Alexis Ashwood, Seeker (I'll do anything except beater)

Beater seemed fun, but if Alexis knew anything about Quidditch, she knew that Renaye and Josh deserved the beating positions.

Lutece Anthony

November 22, 2008 8:51 AM
A year off from Quidditch, her parental divorce, and the fact that her potential Prince Charming was maybe-in-love with one of her roommates had been more than enough. Lutece was back, and she didn't even care if she had to sit on the bench the entire season. She had to do something!
